I know most of you guys over here are all for SI and SS and it doesn't seem like you get much talk over here about RE. Well my question involves RE, and I'd appriciate some input... I drive a 1995 Ford Explorer XLT. I was going to pick up a set of 12" RE SEs and port them at 33 Hz. I was going to use the following box deminsions: 36" length 13.5" height 23.5" depth Well today I measured and made some what of a template to see how big the box would be in my Explorer. Everything is fine except I don't want it so deep. I've talked with a few guys from RE or who know alot about them and they said I couldn't really make it any smaller. Is that true? Or Should I go with a singl…

After my brother came to me wanting a new sub for his 84 S-10 after his ex-wife stole and sold his old one on him. I imediatelly recommended the MAW-15. Well today we installed it in an old 2 cubic foot prefab box I had kicking around the house and hooked it up to his Alpine MRP-M350 which is rated at 350rms @ 2ohm. With the size of the box and seeing as its only an extended cab, the MAW sits only 2" behind the front seats facing forward. And I have to say.......having never driven a car where I bascially sat near the sub, or even having a hatch or fold down rear seat for that matter. I was truely impressed yet again at the musicality and overall output of this driver. My…

im looking for some good 6.5 mids for my 2005 durango. my factory radio is amplified. i will be adding an aftermarket amp for my aftermarket HU for mids. ( i tend to take out all my aftermarket stuff alot(crooks) ) i have a pioneer 6000 deck "new style", 18'' loaded btl; amp got stolen but getting a sundown 3000, but im going to switch between that and my kicker L7 of a us amps 1600.4 bridged at 4 ohms to put 1100 rms to the L7. so there will be plenty of bass. i have tried the alpine type R mids and they did not work for me. i was thinking focal. but ide like to get a few idea's from you guys. and what amp would you recomend on them. thanks. Well this pretty much sucks. I have a brand new set of ID Xs-65 Components in my truck, along with a pair of ID CTS-69 in the rear. They are powered off a 4x150 PDX amplifier. I don't have my subs in, I have the crossover set at 60hz HP all the way around. I was driving the other day, listening to the radio at a normal level (Can't crank it without woofers and getting it set up) and one of the 6.5's stopped working. Mind you, I have the gain to just above muted on the amplifier, and again, I'm not rocking out with no adjustments or subwoofers to tune it in. First I thought that maybe my crossover wiring came undone since the tweeter was still playing. Nope. Hooked touch…

Is there any companies out there that would be willing to custom make a recone kit with a high roll surround? Say I wanted to recone a BTL or something or that sort, but I really wanted a high-roll rubber surround. I know TC makes their subs with them, as does SoundSplinter with their Rl-p 18, but I want to do it with a sub like the BTL, DD 9500, or something else in an 18.

It finally came this morning from Mr. UPS himself. I got that and a new box today. I have a custom ported box with dual ports tuned to 30Hz. I hooked it all up to my rockford p1000bd and I couldn't get the rca cables to reach so i gave it a slight tug and ripped the cables. So I just took the rca's off my speaker amp and hooked it up that way, didn't know what to expect, it is in a trans am. I turned the gains half way up and just stared at it for a while lol. Then I figured it was time, time to shut the hatch and sit down and play a bit with no door speakers. It sounds incredible, it is so so loud, shaking everything inside my car and shaking the mirrors outside my car a…

do they make magnet boots for them? I have yet to see one with it on it and I know the level2/3s have them.. unsure on 4s or 4xls. Also, to Rusty... do you sell just the motors? Interested in making some hybrid subs and it'll be my first time building them.

Greetings, So surprised my username still works. Through college and the years following I stepped away from the audio realm. I am way out of the loop for the latest and greatest but frankly I no longer care about the audio industry though I still enjoy good music. I recently inherited this truck and out of memory of my grandfather and general practicality I am not going to modify it heavily. It has the Bose system and its fine for now. If I ever upgrade the headunit it will be to add navigation and music library. The only thing it is missing is bottom end, mostly because I deafened myself to low frequency in my highschool days. So I am…

Hello gents, So all these years I've been a sealed enclosure type of guy. I listen to bands with lots of double kick and I enjoy it being deadly accurate.. However, I did hear a ported 12" this week that has me rethinking some things. The guy played me Megadeth's "Rust in Peace" (remastered) album and the sub seemed to do pretty well keeping up with the double kick. However, how would the transient response be for even quicker metal bands? (i.e. Divine Heresy, Wintersun, Nile, etc..) Would it stay somewhat accurate? or would it turn into a more muddled response? Or... is it dependent on the frequencies of that particular kick drum(s) and/or be dependent on the band/m…

I am getting a Fi Q15 dual 2 running at 4ohms. I matched the sub with a Autotek 1900.1D mono block. I was wondering whether to go ported or sealed. I know ported is louder but it is hard for me to track down a enclosure online and I can't locate a local shop to make a custom one for me. Is it worth it to go ported or no? If so can you show me a great site that has good prices to get a box that would fit the q15. Also any comments on my set up would be greatly appreciated. FYI I am on a 650 budget. If anyone knows of any amp that is cheaper and more realizable then the 1900.1D please say. Here are the specs to the FI: DUAL 1 | DUAL 2 Fs: 25.9 Hz | 24.9 Hz Re: 0.7 Ohms/coil…

I recently ordered I'd CX62s to run off of my sundown 100.4. I want to find some 2 ohm comps that can handle around 150wrms and can be had for around or less than 200. I got my IDs for under 150 so hopefully it's possible.

Ok so here is my question. I am reconing my sub. My friend has leftover glue from his recone. He ordered this glue from Fi and it came with a bottle of activator. He gave me this glue for my recone and I need to know if its okay to use with out the activator. i placed a bead of it to dry and it hardened up, Do I really need it to complete my recone process. If not I have a tube of Goop that I want to use for the repair, I was told its okay to use it for the recone. If there is anything else that I can get locally please let me know. I did google to find out any info but couldnt find it. Thanks in advance.

I am planning on making a box that is about a max of 2.1 cubes after displacement and tuned to 33 hz and made for 3 8" subs. I am caught between 3 dc level 2 8s, sundown sa-8s v1 with copper clad aluminum coils, sound splinter rl-i8s, or maybe something else readily available that would do good on around 1000 at 2.67 ohms, 1100 watts at 2 ohm, 1600 at 1.5, or 2000 at 1. I am going to use them for daily use but may try some spl runs as well. Which would be the best for me to get? And if possible, tell me why you say your choice and possibly the easiest place to get them.

I'm very keen on buying the Rl-P from soundsplinter, i've heard all good thing about them, absolutely nothing bad. Recently my cousin purchase an idmax woofer, 12 inch one, it sounded awesome, the best sounding woofer i've ever heard. question is, how are the Rl-p compare to this IDmax woofer?? Are they comparable in SQ term?? Price wise, SS is defintely more attractive. So anyone with experience with those two drivers please feel free to post your comment. Thanks in advance.
