I just wondering if there is a way to calculate how much port area you need? I know a basic way to do this is to have 16 square inches of port area for every cube of box volume. I also know that port area needed for a driver has nothing to do with the volume of the enclosure. so how would I calculate the right amount of port area for a driver?

I am building a new enclosure to put in the trunk of a car... It will be built with the sub facing upward, so which direction should i face the port? Should it fire towards the front, side, or back? I do not want to fire it towards the back if I do not have to because it make the trunk lid rattle more... Please help me w/ this asap... Thanks guys.

I have been running these subs in a sealed enclosure now I want to try ported. I am trying to build an LSQ ported enclosure for my 12" HX2 DVC 4ohm subs. I have downloaded the manual and searched the forum history. It seems that they are missing some numbers. I was wondering did anyone have a complete listing. For ex. there isnt any Qes,Qms etc.. If anyone has done a nice LSQ set up for these subs I am would love to have suggestions. I was thinking of tuning it to the low 30's. This is going into a '97 Altima off a Viper 1200.1 H W D 17 38 13.5 (BottomD 18+TopD 9)=27/2=13.5 1.5 1.5 1.5 15.5 36.5 12 * 6789/1728= 3.9288 My plan was to…

hey all, i just finished my box.... i was just wondering if it was better to place my sub(on the baffle) close or far away from the port opening or center it on the port opening OR not care about the location all together.btw it`s a 3.5 cubic foot box with the port fireing on the same side as the sub.

I will be building my first ported box soon and was wondering about port location? I will be using a box design that i found on SSA website for 2 Sundown SA 12's with a kicker ZX1000.1 at a 2ohm load. See the link..... 12" DUAL PORTED 4.0 ft^3 t 30 hertz My link My question is , If i use this box and move the port to the outside but leave it at the same end will it change the tuning, i would think so but not sure. Sorry if i this is a stuipid question but as i said this will be the first ported enclosure that i have owned/built. I plan on the subs firing upwards on top of the enclosure and will be pushing the box close to my rear seat. Hope i gave enough info. thanks in …

I've decided to do a wall in my Blazer for 2 FI BTL 18's. They will be powered by a Concept 2410 on each. My question is for those experienced with walls. Is there a loss of deep bass by porting toward the front vs. toward the back hatch? I'm really just wanting to know what will happen as I have never tried a wall before. I'm sure that there will be an increase in air movement inside the vehicle. Thanks for your help. Kevin

I'm going to make a enclosure that will use almost all of my trunk space, so I'm going to make the bottom out of fiberglass so that I can use the space from the spare wheel well. The port have to be so long that it will close off 1/3 of the opening of the spare wheel well. Few pictures to illustrate the problem: from the side From above: Will this be a problem? And how will this affect the subwoofers?

I am in Orlando and there is a shop that my friend owns and runs and it is called Audio Excellence. Anyways when I was there the other week they had a customer's car and it was an old classic sedan. Anyways it had three 10s sealed and there was a port on the rear deck. When I asked them about it they told me that it eliminates the rattle in the trunk and fires the bass into the cabin. Has anyone know what is the true nature of doing this besides tearing up the rear deck. Thank you Ebrahim

What difference if any does the width of the port make? I understand the tuning and freq changes and all that but lets says you have 2 boxes size and build appropriate for 33 hrz. for 2 12's, if you could build the box with a 2 in wide square port, a 3 in flared port, or what is the down size to using a smaller port area say a 2 in round or a 1 in wide sq port. I realize that it would reduce air flow, but if you have the box built and the port tuned properly does it really matter?

Right now i am rocking out the mid-sized sealed. But, i was looking to upgrade to a ported. can someone give me some help with a design, max dementions: W-35" x H-19" x D-25" it would be mdf. i built my last one and it came out great. I can do most stuff with the material (perfer it to be simple, so i don't have to spend weeks after school on it) I want to keep a lot of sq, but bump up the spl, i know that i will loose some of the tightness, but this would just be a second box anyway, you know, just to have, and for a project. if you needed to know, i have a Viper 1200d. -Travis Anyone know where to get some good black box capetting?

Is it possible to tune a box low enough to protect the sub from the damaging fqs? My amp is an older JBL 1200.1 with no built in SSF. I was looking at either an icon 10 or 12. Main problem is I listen to mostly deep bass rap and I don't want to hurt the sub.

Hello this is my first post here. Ive been researching and looking at subs for a while trying to decide what sub to put in my 86 crown vic. Ive been pointed towards IA and have heard many good things about them thats why i am gonna go with the 187 15. I was gonna put it in a ported box. I have plenty of space for a box in my trunk I have looked and researched sub calculators and all that but still don't know how to determine the frequency and portsize or design. Im going for a mix of volume and sound quality. And would like to know how to pick the frequency, how to tune the box to that, and what portsize. My dad is a carpenter and i was gonna give him the demensions…

I'm in the process of working out a system for my TJ Jeep. I'd appreciate some advice on different ported-enclosure arrangements to suit it. Leaning towards down firing, but i am concerened about wind interference from port positioning, as if is a soft-top. Also, it will be to suit two Fi BTL 18's or 15's, undecided... Thanks!

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding ported enclosures. I currenly have 2 Dcon 12s in a ported enclosure, 1.75 cubes per sub tuned to 33hz. The box was made by a local shop and fits my trunk like a glove. The guy at the shop measured my trunk and that's what fit. The dcons pound for a pair of 12s being powered by only 500 watts. I'd really like to upgrade my output by getting an Icon or Xcon 15, but height size it wouldn't fit which poses my question, how would an up firing subwoofer enclosure sound in a trunk compared to the sub facing the rear? I'm pretty confident an up firing box wound fit my trunk. How would an Xcon sound in 3.75 cubes ported to about 33hz?

What would be the best enclosure for 2-12" IA Lethal Injections? What's the difference between ported and bandpass? I've seen the response curve of both. The bandpass seems to peak about 35hz and drop about 60hz peaks about 40hz and holds it. What is this telling me? Will the manual for the subs tell me the preferred box dimensions for these.

well I wasn't having any luck with WinISD. So I'm asking the experts. I have a Scion tC and need to have as much trunk as possible. I know sealed is most always smaller than ported boxes....but aren't as loud but have better SQ generally. I want the sub to be hit 30Hz at -3dB. I play a lot of rap, metal, and trance and I want it all to be able to sound good. What size sealed box and what size & tuning ported box should I get to fit my needs?
