I currently have a pair of ID12d2v3 subs in a Subzone ported box, 4 cubes, tuned to 30Hz with subs/port firing back and powered by an AQ1200D wired to 2 ohms (870 watts rms). This setup surprised me a few ways 1. The subs are rated at 250 rms, i'm giving them almost double that 2. Subs don't get stinky, never have 3. Never expected the output im getting from this setup, it hits way deeper and gets way louder than I expected it would. I do have some complaints though 1. The box is way too big, IMO. 2. While it bangs the lows pretty good, the higher bass notes are severely lacking 3. Not getting full power out of my amp That being said, and in light of the recent electrical…

Ok, so I know that doing this is generally wrong, frowned upon, and "ghetto" for the lack of better term. But my question is this. Is there a "right" way to do this, or "proper" way to do so. If so, what equipment should be used. Any product recommendations? For those not understanding what I'm referring to, is when people have, generally, weather proof PA Speakers mounted externally of their vehicles, playing music. Again, please skip the whole, "this is wrong and retarded" phase, and just provide some good advice. And no, don't do it, isn't the advice I'm looking for lol. So from experience, what I have seen people use is those PA speakers, that are mounted to cop…

Man....I took my wall out in Oct.... Lookin at the MJ18's makes me think about putting it back in and switching to a pair of 18's just from a cost standpoint....and low power stance....makes me think seriously about it... Wonder what I could make happen with a pair...hmm....i guess i'd have to use 4 just to get a halfway decent ohm load though.... wow..............you killing me.

Is it possible to tune a box low enough to protect the sub from the damaging fqs? My amp is an older JBL 1200.1 with no built in SSF. I was looking at either an icon 10 or 12. Main problem is I listen to mostly deep bass rap and I don't want to hurt the sub.

So as many of you know I have built several car systems, but I have never had the pleasure of using decent speakers for my front sound stage. So I am looking for suggestions. The vehicle is a 2003 Honda Element, Speaker locations as of this point will be factory. (6.5" door, tweeters in a-pillar). The car does have the integrated amps and sub, but I will be removing all of that eventually. The build will not take place for a while, I'm just starting to plan my build. I will be looking at running an active set up. I am also willing to take advice on amps. I currently have no equipment that I will be re-using. This will be a fresh build. Any thoughts on: TAngband underhu…

I'm going to be mounting subs in the quarter panels of my 06 GTO. I'm looking for 10's to go in sealed boxes .7cu ft or less and no deeper then 5.25". This has been done with success by other gto owners. I'm not looking to hear the downsides of the placement. Here's a pic of where they are going. Any suggestions are welcome, I'd like to keep the price under $350 for the pair of subs.

Yep, the first ever production driver came in today. A second driver should come shortly...which the pair of them are being rush-shipped to a competitor that is going to be putting up some serious numbers with them. The rest of the drivers are going to be glorious, as the one driver I have here is absolutely beautiful. If you guys want pics of it, just let me know.

i just recently finished the install for this sub (pics in show-off forum<------shameless plug :boink: ) and i gotta say...it is everything advertised and more!! BUILD QUALITY is excellent. looks like a lttle excess glue above the top spider around the former, but i can live with that. same 4 spoke cast basket as many subs including treo and memphis. this thing weighs in at 30 pds...8 pds heavier then one of my treo 15's! all things equal, easily comparable to the best subs out there MUSIC REPRODUCTION WOW, can this thing get low! using a bass mekanics cd, i played everything from test tones to sample tracks. this thing just reproduces adn doesn't quit! it also …

Would a DD 9518 on a RF T15001-bd be ok as a daily driver? Don't care much about SQ, just wondering if this sub can take hours of daily pounding. And also, off topic but is port area separate from internal box volume?

For the longest time I ran my SPL15 inverted due to my box being just under 4 cubic feet net. I also made sure to reverse the polarity on my pioneer HU when I ran inverted . A few days ago I got bored and decided to mount the sub in the "normal" non-inverted fashion. HU sub polarity setting was set back to normal rather than reversed. The sub sounds much louder now and low end reproduction is much more powerful. I thought by putting the motor in the box would decrease net volume therefore raising the tuning a bit. Doing so seems to have had the opposite effect. Box is tuned to 37ish with sub mounted inverted. Can anybody explain why this happened?

posted a thread on ca.com, thought i would mirror it here. excuse the copy paste, if you have any questions/pic requests, lmk, and ill do my best! Alright.. I got the oppertunity to purchase a damaged in shipping M5 spl15 from Mark himself for a STEAL. As it was damaged in shipping, it obviously needs a recone (actually, i am turning this one and another damaged in shipping spl 12 into custom 18's, so..) so i tore it down tonight, without causing damage to the softparts. and thought some of you may care (i have seen a few posts/questions in the last few days wondering about the quality of the m5 stuff) Before i start with the pics- yes i am a mach 5 "fanboi". Marks price…

I have a pontiac g6, just built a box for 2 sa-12's, wired it down to one ohm running off a AQ1200D. I put the box in, turned it on, turned up my volume to my "max" which is 25 out of 35 on my alpine CDE-123. Now the problem is, i turned to to 25, went back to set my gain, and for now im gonna set it using the clipping indicator on the remote knob (until i can get a DD-1) so i kept turning up the gain, and i had to turn it up all the way to get any "decent" output out of the subs and the clipping light didnt even blink, what i mean by "decent" output is it sounded like 2 8's and the subs barely even moved. box is 3.3 cubes after all displacements tuned to 32hz with 15sq i…

Hi everyone, I've been doing some shopping lately looking for a new sub and wanted to get some advice. Heres a few things specifically I'm kinda basing my next purchase upon. 1. Budget- $450 (approx) 2. single subwoofer setup only 3. minimum 1500w RMS 4. Best SQ possible at the same time id love something that can hit pretty damn hard (140 decibels if possible) 5. Very durable!! I've already blown 2 soundsplinter rlp-18s i need something that can take some serious abuse. ( something that actually can withstand in hot weather) I will be using a a jl 1000/1v2 to power the sub ( Nak cd400 headunit). So far I've been browsing TC sounds Axis series, Ascendant audio mayhem ser…

Hi guys, A tinsel lead broke on one of my mid last week. It's impossible to solder properly, to fix that. So I'm looking for a replacement. My budget is not high enough to just buy a new set like the Focal KR2 or KRX2. I was thinking about a set of JBL gti 608 but I can't find one. I will buy a mini-dsp as soon as the funds are ok, maybe for Xmas. Until then, I will use the passive filters for the Focal tweeters, and I want a set of mids (not to be used on the passive filters). Crossover at 80 or 100 Hz on my Pioneer head unit. I saw a lot of people talking about ScanSpeak speakers, like the Illuminator or the Revelators. Can that be a good choice ? I'll change …
