Hey Scott, my friend has a Sundown SAE-1000d (1000 x 1 @ 1 ohm) for power and I'm trying to figure out what subs to get. He's running 2 12w3v2's sealed and they're getting about 800 watts total. He's looking for a bit more output and better sound. Well first I was looking at dual 12 setups, and I thought about having 2 SSD's (500 watts each), 2 SE's, or 2 TC-9's. All with 500w each and sealed. A single 12" Q also came to mind. Listens to mostly rap anywhere from 30-75hz. What setup do you think would be best for his power available and more output and SQ?

This sub was tested in my 05 four runner. DbDrag style seald on the dash. This is only the 3rd time testing in this vehicle, but it works well because as an suv it has a large cargo area and doesnt have some rediculous peak like my old crx had. I ran into some heat issues throughout the day and this is only 2/3s of what I planned to test. Look for frequency plots in a few days. SPL results From the beginning of throwing the sub in the box i realized I had a decent spl sub on my hands. I started testing with very minimal power, 10.4 watts , just to show the effeciency of this sub and the fact that you do not need to drop 2000 watts on a driver for it to be loud. Afte…

I'm trying to decide on a set of 6.5" components for my new system. It's a daily SQ driver that I've already exceeded the budget for with the following: HU: Pioneer DEH-P5900iB Comp Amp: Sundown SAX-100.4 Sub: Sound Splinter RL-i8 DVC 4 Sub Amp: Sundown SAE-1000D I wanted to get Focal 165-V2's, but can't find a reputable online seller (local retailers are overpriced). I settled for the 165-V1's from Sonic Electronix, but I've never heard them in person... and I think they have a similar tweeter to the 165-A1's, which sounds harsh. I've read plenty of good anecdotal evidence in favor of CDT components, but I've never heard them in person. And there seem to be a *lot* o…

i got to thinking today and was wondering how this would work out.... Lets say you have a driver that is rated at 1000 rms watts, so you give it 1000 rms at 4 ohms and no problems. Now you get an amp that does 1000rms at 1 ohm is it the same to the driver???? I was just wondering if the BL of the sub would come into play or if 1000 is 1000 no matter what. Just wondering how it all would be effected. Thanks, Brock

I need to find a negative push terminal... The original wearer of said broken terminal was a diamond d1, I am not worried about it matching, unless Scott, or when I call heather at TC sounds will only sell them in sets. I snapped the terminal right off of the basket, but they are more of a bolt through design than actually being part of the basket.

Would this work? I know the rms is only 250 rms. The box is tuned to 35 hz (slot ports) and is 2 cuft before displacement. I remember seeing a thread saying the MAW's could take a little more then their rms, but would 600 watts be pushing it? I found a guy selling a pair for $35 each , $87 total shipped to me. I have been wanting to get a pair of MAW's since M5 showed up on the forums, I think I am going to go ahead and buy them and just go easy on the gain. What say you guys, Mark, feel free to leave your expert input

Ok, I'll put this out to those who are definitely not as technically challenged as I. I went garage-saling, and picked up a set of used Infinity Ref 6000cs's for $30. Have since tested them and work fine, just not enough base for me. I tried them in a small 1/3 cube homemade box to test them. Now, is it possible to just replace the Infinity Woofer with an MLI-65 and get much better base(sound quality and punch) with a cold swap ? There are really no "adjustments" that can be made on these crossovers except to go -3db's on the tweets. Just wondering...

I had two mx's and they were too powerful, but it would be nice to have sime headroom sometime. I was just wonderin what you guys think. thanks

So I'm coming from a Q, it's in about 2 cubes and tuned to 30hz. I'm powering it with an MD2 being a bit conservative on the gain. The output is pretty good for a twelve in a trunk car and the lows are thunderous, but I want something that will also play the upper frequencies 45-60 a bit louder than the Q does. Lookin for something with the same punchiness of the Q also. Probably looking at 2 12's sealed, I think I'll be satisfied with the output there and I can turn it down if needed. Only subs I've considered were the SE and the SSD w/ a copper coil, possibly the TC-9 too. Any help/suggestions are welcome, I'm open to anything.

So after randomly selecting units and testing them (after a good burn-in period) here are the published specs for the new IXL-18.4. You may find them better than the original(s). Even I am pleasantly surprised: IXL-18.4 Thiele-Small parameters: Fs = 17.7 Hz Re = 3.4 ohms[dc] Le = 6.09 mH Qt = 0.37 Qes = 0.39 Qms = 5.59 Mms = 434.34 grams Rms = 8.69 kg/s Cms = 0.184 mm/N Vas = 274.1 liters Sd= 1029.22 cm^2 Bl = 20.51 Tm Lp(2.83V/1m) = 91.60 dB If I have enough time this weekend, I'll do some testing and post some graphs. Best, Mark EDIT: Le has been changed to a more accurate number. This measurement was taken using a 100Hz test frequency.

hello, thanks for any help in advance. i'm looking at ordering my first mach 5 subs ( ) and just wanted some recommendations as to which ones' i should get and bopx sizes. right now i have a crappy 15" kicker cvr in a ported box tuned to 35-36hz. and i want something to keep up with it in spl but also have better sq (which shouldn't be hard since kicker sucks, but it was damn near free). i have 650wrms to play with so i'm thinking about 2 maw 12's. how would they compare sealed or ported? if sealed works (kinda hoping it does, miss the lows my box now doesn't get) what would be good size, was thinking about 2.5cuft after displacements? or ported, but i'd want it tuned lo…

I have about 1200 watts to work with and 1.1 cu.ft. of airspace per woofer. I'm looking for 2 12's that will do great with minimum airspace. My box is 2.2cu.ft. tuned to 32hz and i am not going to go with a one sub setup simply because of the cone area and i was wondering what you guys suggest.

Who do you think makes the best component speakers for under $800 (maybe up to $1k if I have to) and where can you get them. I've been looking at making a set using CDT drivers which would be the ES-06 with the braxial tweet along with the upstage kit that has the DRT-26 tweet. I'm sure there must be many different brands to choose from but I haven't really been keeping up with car audio. Some brands I've also heard of and are considering are Focal, Hertz (no idea who sells these), Morel, and Boston Acoustics. I need a 6.5" set to go in the doors of my 350Z. I was planning on using Zed Audio's The Deuce (is this a good amp?) with BB upgrade to power the components. …

After my brother came to me wanting a new sub for his 84 S-10 after his ex-wife stole and sold his old one on him. I imediatelly recommended the MAW-15. Well today we installed it in an old 2 cubic foot prefab box I had kicking around the house and hooked it up to his Alpine MRP-M350 which is rated at 350rms @ 2ohm. With the size of the box and seeing as its only an extended cab, the MAW sits only 2" behind the front seats facing forward. And I have to say.......having never driven a car where I bascially sat near the sub, or even having a hatch or fold down rear seat for that matter. I was truely impressed yet again at the musicality and overall output of this driver. My…
