Ok, lets dispell some myths about speakers. I figured we could have a small list of the different ways you could "blow" a speaker and have a little technical explanation to go with it. I also want to talked about clipped and unclipped signals and thier effects on a speaker. Ways to blow a driver 1. Degrading of materials This one is plain and simple. Speakers get old. Typically when a speaker gets old the surrounds go first, especially in stock speakers. most surrounds are made of a foam or rubber and time, heat, sunlight (common in dash mounted speakers) cause the materials to degrade, and then when you play them again they fall apart. 2. Thermal Limits of a driver When …

I'm really curious to see what the Le of an 12" XCON is. My heart has been set on an AE AV-X driver for the longest time, but i keep coming back to SSA and ponder if I should just get the XCON. I don't have an amp yet, it all depends on what driver I decide on getting. My hesitation comes from getting a high xmax driver. Every one I have purchased has such a high Le that they typically never exceed 63hz. yes, I know I could beef up my front stage, but it would require a lot of modification to either fit a larger driver, or another driver. i have an 06 Trailblazer so I have the space, but I would like to keep it as a sealed enclosure. I'm not to concerned with the spl, as …

former owner of 2 10 jl audio w3v2 subs under the back seat of my f150 super cab. Overall I was not too happy with the output of these subs. I need another pair to throw under my back seat and I was considering the rl-i10 or 8. Wasnt sure on yalls thoughts on this/ have yall heard this set up before? My goals are for more spl then the jls and im alright sacrificing some sq for it. current amp is a memphis st-1000d 1 ohm stable at 1000 watts, however I can get a new amp so thats not really an issue, even though these subs match up great with that amp! any other recomendations are greatly needed, ive been without bass for about 10 months now.

Hey guys Im looking to buy a JL w3v3-2ohm 10'' in my car. I have a 04' BMW 3 series sedan now. I will be getting a custom box so it fits snug somewhere (not moving around everywhere). I currently have my kicker zx750.1 amp, do you think this will be a good match for it? Or do you recommend the 4ohm version? Running just a 4 gauge to it, and looking for some decent CLEAN bass to satisfy everyone in my car =D

My jeep has 6x9 in the front and 6.5 in the back. Thy are the infinity gold system that came with the jeep. I just purchased a pair of ID ctx65cs speakers and am stuck on what I should do. My options are as follows 1. Put ID component set in back and replace front 6x9 with ID ctx69. Buy a 4 channel amps to run all 4 2. Buy another set of ctx65cs and run them in front and back off a 4 channel amp 3. Put ctx65cs in front and run off a 2 channel amp(100rms x2). Run the stock rear speakers off of the head unit. What do you guys think? I am leaning towards option 3, it will allow me to save money towards my subwoofer. I know with option 3 that my music will be a good deal lo…

Well I want to try my Fi Q10 in a ported box to see if I can sqeeze a littel more output out of it but don't really know where to start. It is in a S10 ext cab and I don't what to take up the whole back seat and keeping the sound quality I have now in a .6ft^3 box is a must. I was thinking of using tubes for ports instead of a slot port but I am open to anything. Any ideas? Thanks, Mike B.

If a 12" needs 1.75 cubes and has a displacement of .12, does the same model 10" need 1.4 and has a displacement of .096? Do you multiply 1.75 & .12 by .2 because there is a 20% size increase from 10 to 12?

I'm looking to get a good sounding component set for my front doors. The car I have is a 2006 Corolla Type S. I'm going to get a 150 - 200 watt amp to power whichever I get. These are the ones that fit and caught my eye. Alpine SPX-13REF Boston Acoustics Pro50 SE Infinity Kappa 50.9cs JL Audio ZR525-CSi Pioneer Premier TS-C520PRS

I plan on buying the DCON to put in the trunk of my sons car. It will be powered by an Alpine MRP-M500. I have the recommended specs for the ported box. My question is does any one have a top firing and top port box plan for this sub? I plan on cutting holes in the rear deck to allow sound from the trunk to enter the cabin area. Any other Jetta folks out there with any ideas on the best way to get sound into the cabin with the rear seats closed?

Hey guys, pretty new to this forum. I currently run a boston acoustic G512-44 off of a rockford p1000-1bd amp. It is in a sealed box and sound really good. I gets pretty loud, ok for my ears anyways, 120-130. But anyways, I was thinking about getting two Mach 5 IXL-10 BR woofers. My goal of this upgrade is to have the same great sound just add a little more oomph once in a while. I do not usually crank it all the time, but when I'm in the mood, I would like a more output. I listen to Rock/Rap almost all of the time, with some classic rock and R&B sometimes. Not sure whether I would go ported or sealed. (ported with the BR series of course) Has anyone used the IXL…

im pretty sure that i want to go with infinity kappa speakers to match my 463.7 front speakers that sound AWESOME. right now i have a plate made for 4 4's that i have 4 proaudio speakers in it, that sound alright, but 2 of them are blown. so im probably either going with 2 693.7i kappa 6x9s, or 4 42.7i kappa 4's. im kind of leaning towards the 4's sounding better, what do you all think?

Looking for an SQ sub that gets pretty loud and still clear. I have a Kicker zx1500.1, rated at 1687 RMS at 2 ohms, so that's around 840 RMS at 4. I don't care if it's a a 12 or 15 as long as it fits in my trunk. I like the IDMax but it's too expensive. I really don't want to spend more than 300. I also like the Fi Q 15" but I'm afraid 1687 is too much and 840 is not enough. Any suggestions?

99 Grand Marquis has no rear door speakers. Should I change out all the factory speakers with components or put comps in front doors and 4 6.5 or 6x9 coaxals in rear deck. Or put 4 6.5 comps in rear deck.

I am currently running two 12" JL w3s in my car and I am planning on upgrading. I want to be able to hit lower frequencies and have louder bass. I was looking at buying 2 13.5" JL w6s when I discovered Fi's subwoofers. I have watched a few videos and searched online and I was hoping that someone here could give me some advice. I was going to get a ported box and whatever amps and wiring necessary to make the subs sound good. What will have better sound quality and what will be louder overall? 1 12" Fi BTL or 2 13.5" JL w6s?

i need some new tweets for my RE 6.5 comps. theyre just not loud enough. i had some polk db tweets, and i really liked them, but they're long gone now. since i don't know alot about tweets i'm basing my search off of the polks sensitivity rating of 94db @ 1w/m. that is how loud (more or less) it'll be right? here is a couple that i found on ebay. if you know of something else let me know..... p.s. i only got about $25 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5786730772&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5785599027&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5785363901&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5786702185&rd…

I just made a ported box, and the recessed terminal cup i bought at my local shop looks pretty hard to install - the back of it is a rounded rectange. is it ok to just drill a small hole for my speaker wire in the back of the box and fill it with silicon caulk? im worried this will just make it leak terribly...
