Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

Whats the differences and similar features of the Mach 5 IXL 15 and the SSA Icon 15? Which sub would work better for listening to rap, and for someone mainly looking for loudness not sq. Which Sundown amp would be best suited as well.

I will soon be attempting my first recone. I am ordering a recone kit for my aq hdc315 d1 right now and when it arrives dj(aq's owner) told me to call him back and he would walk me through it step by step. For those who have done recones before any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! p.s. Just thought this was funny. I called two audioshops in nearby towns and asked the guy who answered the phone if any one there could do recones. Neither shop had ever even heard of reconing a speaker and the guy at the second shop thought I was trying to prank him because he had never heard of reconing or the brand audioque. Just can't believe these are the people gettin…

  6. A while back I ordered a custom recone kit going from a single 2 to a dual 2 coil, and I was wondering if there would be any noteable increase in power handling, Mms, and efficiency as well as a lowering in Fs since there will be double the coil... but I think i was mostly told not enough to be note worthy. Later on I painted the cone, and suddenly I was being told I would totally mess up the drivers SQ and SPL by adding mass and making the cone stiffer (obviousely mostly by noobs and tards) Anyway, Exodus Audio's GEN II Maelstrom-X came out. Basically the only change was going from a single 4 to a dual 2 coil. The added coil length was enough that they changed the power …

Simple question, i'm thinking about installing my component set today (finally) and i'm about to check to see if i can make a baffle board or if i need to do rings. either way, i know i have to make the MDF waterproof and i planned on using resin. Now, when making my box, i was told not to put the speaker in the box for 24 hours because the fumes from silicon sealants are known to eat away speakers. Is this true with resin? I ask because i would really like to get them running today, but i also don't want to ruin $250 worth of speakers. Looking for a quick response!! Either way i'm letting the Resin cure, but as soon as it does, will it be safe for speakers?? Thanks to a…

  8. So I asked around on a few forums about my custom dual 2. Since I am adding a second coil, going from a single 2 layer to a dual 4 layer, I am adding mass and adding double the wire for current. I now have double the windings in the gap. So I asked if my Fs would drop a tad from added mass, efficiency would go up a touch from having double the windings, and if power handling would go up a tad as well as now I have 2 wires sharing the power, thus 1/2 the power going through each wire. I was basically told NO. Now I put some paint on a cone, and all you experts are like "DUDE you changed your thiele small parameters!" Are you guys freakin kidding me? And you all spend so …

I'm going to attempt my first door pods. There not going to be down low and the bottom of the door like most. Mine will be up a little higher. My question is, whats the best way to face them??? Should they (6.5" mid & 1" tweet RE's RE comp set) both (pass & driver) be angle up towards me? Or the one on the pass. side angled towards me, and driver towards the pass.? Or what other suggestions would you recommend?

  14. My idea, 25Hz tapped horn using Kicker CVXs, was stolen by Kicker, by Deon screen name dB-Kicker. I didn't do any of this design work or build, it was just an idea, but an idea shared between 2 men in private messages. Since my private message turned into a very public build, I took it upon myself to do the same...share private message information. I made a comment/reply in his thread about it, he ignored it and sent me 3 PMs confirming guilt. I gave him a day to reply, then started my own thread. It was ignored, then deleted, so here you go! I was at a friends house the other day and noticed he had a pair of speakers laying around he wasnt using.. I asked him why and he said "idk how to hook them up.." So I took a look at them and saw they were kind of old, but also noticed that they were Polk Audio speakers.. I know polk of being a good brand, and they looked like some decent speakers to have around so I told him I'd give him 25$ for the pair and we made the deal. I got home to do some research on them and can't find any that match up to these... the closest thing I can find are the "Polk Monitor 4's".. They look a lot alike except the tweeter style is slightly different and the port location on mine is off …

I have a 1994 Toyota 4runner and I want to upgrade my speakers, mainly for highs, but for mids also. I'm eventually going to get some 8's or something for mids and upgrade in that area. I have a Fi Bl 15 and a Sun Audio SAZ 1000d on order. My car has 4" standard speaker mounts in the dash, but none in the doors. I have a Pioneer DEH-P5000 head unit installed and some crappy 4" speakers that are almost blown. I could probably fab some mounts for some larger speakers, but if possible I want to stay with some 4" in the dash. Any input on some quality speakers that I could get for under $100 a pair would be great.
