Subwoofers / Speakers

Discuss Subwoofers And All Aspects Of Speakers here.

  1. Started by dpgriff,

So ive been thinking about how I want to upgrade my system. I'm planning on getting two 10" dcons in a ported box. I currently have 4" coax speakers and 6.5" coax on the rear deck. Both sets of speakers suck in the mid range. Would I be able to use a 6.5" kicker cvt for mid bass like bass drum kicks and stuff (like 80-200+ hz?) . It says it works in a sealed .2-.3 cu ft. enclosure. I bet I could find room for it infront of the middle seat in the back. I could get a 5 channel amp to power the speakers and this 6.5 woofer. Is this a stupid idea? Would this small woofer be redundant?

How will an HCCA sound in a sealed box, stuffed liberally? looking for a 30hz peak in a trunk car. SQ is priority, but with the ability to take your breath away. Three 12's, and three RF 4000BD's. electrically yada yada...... this is speculative, sifting through, as usual.

someone told me to drill ~1" hole in the back of my kick to "vent" it into the floor...would it be better to do this or to actually port in to a certain freq? and if ported is better, what should i tune it to?

hmm i got some info today about ported boxes. I was thinking about using a ported box and porting the bass into my cabin. Well... it turns out all the port itself does is boost and PLAY the frequency it is tuned to, and the majority of the bass still comes from the front wave of the sub. so if i tune the box to 31 hz and i stick the ports into the cabin into the cabin i will hear boom boom boom BOOM boom BOOM the "BOOM" being the frequency the port is tuned to and it will overwhelm rest of the bass. i think thats why spl people like to upfire the ports into the cabin. any comments?

Not my thing, but my sister wants some output. Looking for a sub for her boat. Nothing magical to blend with, just a set of tbd comps and an amplifier. Have 350w @ 4ohms (or 175x2 @ 2ohms) on tap and up to a few cuft to put it in. Would prefer loud for playing hip-hop, but at least mildly musical as I won't build a box for a fart cannon as it would piss me off too much. This one will be ported. Budget, less is more but $200 tops. New, used, a pair, or unusual is all fine with me I'd love a Maw, but the coils don't work for the power we have Same problem with the SD's. At the moment, I am leaning towards a 12" JBL GTO for $50 but would love to kick it up a notch …

I'm not real familiar with enclosures and things of that sort. I can wire them up and all that happy stuff. But I have a 2004 GMC Sierra extended cab and I was talking with a guy at a local audio shop about a box to go under my back seat. He mentioned something about .95cu.ft. for a sealed dual 10" truck box. I showed him the specs on the GCON subs and he told me they should fit no problem in that box. Then I got to looking and based on those specs it said the ICON and even XCON subs would fit as well. Since you all know more than I do about enclosures and sub depth, would the GCON subs fit in that box for my truck? It is a downfire box as well. If you need dimensions of …

okay, so i got my XXX 15 in a couple days ago, i had it in there good running off my viper, 1 problem, is my SX moved more than my XXX does, so i thought maybe the XXX needs more power, or maybe it hasnt broken in yet, so i got my PA a3000db in, this adds in more problems, for some reason the amp isnt doing something right or i havent set the "extra complicated" 3 knobs, wow you match the gain which i did 1800 x 1 then square root it comes out to 42.4v, so i set it there, but it isnt as loud as the viper was hardly, its not really much louder if any, but the lowend is gone and for some reason i have more midbass now, so wtf, it used to hit some notes with my viper, but wi…

I plan on getting a saz-1500D and running an extra battery. My only problem is I cant really decide what sub(s) I want to go with. I want a loud daily sub(s). I can make about a 6 cubic feet box. I can go with two 15s sealed, one 15 ported, two 12s ported, or possibly three 12s ported or sealed.. Some of the subs i have thought about are two RE audio SE 12's, two Fi SSDs 12s, One FI Bl 15, and I am open to any recomendations.

Im hoping around 800+ per sub. Just wondering what you guys rec'd for a VERY loud daily as i know i dont have to worry about the SQ...ITS A MAGNUM B) Not sure exactly how many cubes i can squeeze out of the back, im guessing around 4.7.

This is my second time writing this because my *DELL* laptops monitor just blacked out... haha. Alright, so I am looking for a 15 that is under 180 bones, has good SQ, but will get louder than my sealed Rockford P2 12. I plan on porting whatever I get at 30Hz. I really love the low lows. I have an amp that puts out 500w @ 2ohms. I was choosing between 4 different subs that could fit my description. Obsidian 15, Sundown E-15, Skar IVX 15, and SSA Dcon 15. Whatever I get, it will be a D4. I change my mind a lot, but I am going to look past the OA-15 because I won't be able to power it sufficiently, and I am also looking past the Sundown E-15 because (from what I read on her…

Crossfire vr 1000d???? Heard good things about it. Do not have any dealers near me to check one out. What do you guys think of this amp. I also have heard some good things about the nine 1. How are these two amps. I am looking for something to power either a tc2000, rl-p or oz matrix elite single sealed 15. I have heard these where both all around solid amps. I do not buy from shady internet sites so any suggestions please have them be authorized or through woofers etc. Thanks for the help guys! ps: I plan to upgrade amps later on. I want solid all around amps. Something the high end guys can say is a respectable amp. But nothing cheap. Not into the hifonics or any of tha…

  22. Hi guys I'm in a little trouble, well my friend is and he's relying on me to fix it. The car is a 98 civic coupe. He has Rockford fosgate t1 components in stock locations (door and pillar) powered by a rockford two channel (not sure what model I think it's the power series) They have sounded great but now he says that on the right side of the car he can hear a static-like noise from the speakers at low volume. Can't hear at high volume (because music overpowers the static, but when turntable down the static is heard. I've done everything to my knowledge to try and troubleshoot. I checked the speaker wires, all good and secure. The wires are running to the amp safely. I…

My g/f is wanting to use my old sub box to replace her current RF sub setup. She has a PPI i450 (450w @ 2ohm) amp and we've been looking at either SSA DCON or the IA I-series. Goals would be that the sub has to work with the current amp and work well with the box. Box is made for a 12" sub and is 1.35cu ft (was previously made for an ICON) and is sealed. She's primarily looking for more output and deeper bass than her current sub which is a 10" $50 RF sub, so I know either of these will be better. Which sub would be the better to go with? Are there better options than the two mentioned above?

hello to all. as some of u know, i was on here about 4 months ago looking for opinions on a sub. well i went with a 2011 kicker l7 15 in a 5cf ported box and i must say it was LOUDDDD. but then the SQ started getting to me. so i found a orion hcca 12.2 on my local craigslist for 375 or possible trades. i messaged him and long story short, we did a straight trade. my kicker zx1500.1 amp will not run at 1 ohm so im running the sub at 4ohms and the sub is laughing at the zx's 750watts at 4 ohms. so i need a amp thats stable at 1 ohms, atleast 1200watts (no more than 2000. stock electric here fellas) and no more than $375. fire away!!
