  1. You obviously didn't read the story, nor understand how it relates here. Nor are you looking at the larger picture. You think you've got it all figured out because you "think of money".....unfortunately you aren't looking at the strategy of how to generate that money. That is business. Money is not. Money is what results from a strong business strategy. If you have a poor business strategy guess what?.....you're not going to make any money. There's more to sales, revenue and profit than simply the number of units moved out the door. You also have to consider your brand's image to consumers in the market. You then have to realize how that brand image will affect what products you can offer in the market and what price you can them sell for. You also have to consider how the competing products being sold via the same outlet as your products will affect your pricing strategy and the level of quality and product you can offer through those outlets. If RF is branded as a "Best Buy" product it will affect the consumers perceived image of the brand. BB isn't known for their high quality car audio products, RF would more than likely prefer to be known for producing high quality car audio products. So how does it affect your company image if one of the most prominent retailers of your product is mainly selling low to mid level, mediocre, mass-market products? You'll be labeled as such as well. This will in turn affect the perceived level of quality of all of the lines of products and how much the consumer is willing to pay for those higher lines of products. If you're producing a high quality, higher cost, higher line of product but the consumer doesn't perceive it as such because of your brand image they aren't going to pay what you're asking.....where's this money you speak of going to come from? Also, in order to compete in the BB market you will have to price your products accordingly, which means you either eat into your own profit margin or produce a lower quality product, which again will affect your brand image and how the consumer perceives your entire product line up. So if you want to be known for high quality products that are sold through an independent dealer network (which will improve sales of those higher quality products and improve your ability to sell them for your asking price) but your lower lines are of decreasing quality because you need to keep up with the BB market that you're lower lines are being sold through, what's going to happen? Not as many people are going to be looking at those higher line of products.....sales fall, dealers start dropping the line, and soon all you're left with is the lower end low quality cheap product sold through Best Buy. If this isn't the direction you want to take the company due to profit margin, or product mix, or recouping costs, or relative percentage of sales of independent retailers vs national retailers, etc......where's this money you speak of going to come from? You're not looking at it from an objective business standpoint, you're looking at it from a blind "units = $ " standpoint which is not a solid business strategy. Oh, by the way....you claim RF's profit is down, they are about ready to tank. This happened while they had BB as a national retailer. So how's that strategy working out for them?
  2. As said above, keep that amp, it is a ZED Built classic. You should be able to get by for a while on this amp while you save up for a new amplifier for the sub woofers.
  3. We're not going to give you something you do not need or does not enhance performance... Punch a hole in your wall and yank the wire out of it and see how small that is. Your amplifier puts out the same thing that you have in your wall in your house...that is HUNDREDS of feet long Long story short..you don't need it.
  4. I hate to say it but your far better off reading at home and teaching your self over time. The best thing you'll ever do is find yourself some guys who have been into it for a long time. Go to some competitions and talk to some guys youll be surprised how much us audio guys are willing to lend a helping hand and teach you a thing or two. As far as starting an audio shop dont even think about trying to sell anything but the well known brands. People are so hell bent on Kicker and Memphis these days they could car less about your opinion on anything but. Its a sad thing i know but like others said keep it as a hobby or youll learn to hate it when you have to do it for other people all day.
  5. I only see a couple cracks around the mounting lip. As long no spokes are busted then it's playable. Drill an extra mounting hole on each side of each crack and screw it down. It's not like you can mess the basket up any worse. The sub will play fine.
  6. What do you mean "minimal impedance"? What impedance is your amplifier stable at? As for wiring; JL Audio - Car Audio Systems
  7. Word of warning; Turning your hobby into your career can make the hobby side much less fun since it becomes "work". Doesn't happen to everyone, but happens a lot. I prefer to keep my hobbies just that, a hobby, for exactly that reason. Don't expect to open a shop selling a bunch of brands that are unknown in your area and make a killing because you think those brands are great. Consumers typically buy what they know about, or don't buy what they've never heard of before. Lastly....it's a really tough field to make a living at. IMO start out small as a part time thing and see how it goes. As far as degrees; I would agree with the previous poster that it's probably a better idea to go to school in a field that is multi-purpose. Business, electrical or mechanical engineering, etc. IMO those "car audio" schools are a waste of money for what they teach and the price they charge.
  8. If you're happy with the Soundstream I don't see a reason to change. If you want to try it, swap the amps and try it. It'll take 10 minutes. That'll give you a better answer than any of us could. As for info on it, I'm sure you can google it and find some. Arc is a decently respected amplifier brand, so it's not terrible.
  9. It's an amplifier. It won't (or shouldn't) affect the sound at all. So asking how an amplifier sounds is not an appropriate question to ask. If he wanted to ask if they did rated power, were reliable, etc., those would probably be questions he's actually after. And the answer to both is no.
  10. How about this: ~4 cuft net tuned to 32 Hz 16" h x 40" w x 20" d Port is 14.5" x 4", 30" long. To get 30", you make the side port wall so it extends into the box until it is 4" from the back wall, then add a piece 10" long running parallel to the back wall. Box is .75" thick, except the baffle is 1.5" thick. Those dimensions allow for ~0.5 cuft to add 45's to the corners and bracing. If you don't use all of it, or you use a little more, it will still work great.
  11. what do you mean by that? There is nothing special about them, they will create sound. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone, not even for a paperweight.
  12. UMMM I didn't ask the question, the OP did. And i said ( i take it nobody has actually heard one playing) because no one answered his question of hearing one . Not saying that I've heard one or even seen one. Maybe i should have put a question mark behind it. Get off the high horse damn!!!!
  13. Subwoofers can not be compared at all, they are made for different goals in mind so this is a useless thread. Read new member topic guidelines (comaprison threads are useless). The AQ can get loud and the CVX will do better on the lows, so it is a compromise which one you will want to go with (you cant have both, car audio is full of compromises). Next time make a topic on helping you pick a sub that fits your: goals, sound preference, budget, enclosure size availability and so on. Those subs could be put on a 3000watt amp if gains are set right and volume control is use wisely but would I do it no. If you get the AQ 2200D with the CVX's set your gains right with a DMM and you will be fine, just because an amp puts out 2200 watts doesnt mean it is doing it on a constant basis since music is dynamic (there is no problem with having head room). Head room will help some individuals keep from clipping there amp since some want to turn it up as loud as it can go.
