  1. On the other hand, what is this?
  2. I have been wanted a 12" DCON. Since I can not find one, I looked at the 15" DCON. Do you have recommended enclosures recommendations or free enclosure designs for the 15" DCON? Thank you jonblack All on the product page, http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/index.php/product-information/dcon.html
  3. ED were trailblazers At least they were the first I ever saw exploiting the "everybody but us are idiots" teenage mindset. Distract from the low cost/poor quality problem by defining it as high quality priced for our friends. I'm not saying everything they sold was garbage, but I was often struck by how often they were the first system but not the second. I think it was more confusing a few years ago because most still expected the truth to out on the Internet. We all still had to learn how the message could be corrupted in an "open" medium by the ethically challenged. When I first started testing vibration dampers, ED supporters were outraged that I dared to point out that the basic specs the company presented for their products were way off. I actually got death threats
  4. I mention that from time to time, and some people just don't know or remember. SSA and SIN were one of the first to have brand vendor forums. Neither of us charged for it for a very long time. Speaking to everyone reading this, not just Brad; Once brand forums became standard on all the other forums, as around 2007/2008 is when we saw the rampant duplication of our layout, vendor forums became monetized. In the same train of thought of Milne, many of these brands who cannot handle criticism or think they have to present a synthetic perfect image to customers, have taken the delusional mind set of that since they are paying for a section, they think they should have total control over the data or information in relation to their products. Well, that is flat out incorrect, the data belongs to the owners of the forum, the vendors are paying for the right to have a dedicated section, nothing more. What is worse is when the forum staff (moderators or owners), think they need to delete any negative feedback to protect their vendors or butt buddies. Then what happens is people try to understand via PM or email, then they get banned. You will never see that here (as Brad said). This is clearly a very bad issue at amateur hour forums, where deeply rooted issues of insecurity and pissing contests are the standard psychological mindset. And no, I'm not referring to the 16 year old kids who just got their first car and want to out do their buddies in the school parking lot, I am talking about the 30-40+ somethings that still have not grown up and feel it is completely okay to act the way the 16 year old's do, the difference being is that they have gained 'post delete' or 'ban member' functions. Where this problem becomes HUGELY damaging, is when the young crowd, specifically the above mentioned 16 year old's fresh onto the audio scene are fed blatant lies, half-truths or are completely miss-led due to lack of honest information. This becomes clearly evident when you read posts on other forums by younger members that say something along the lines of "Well I have not heard anything bad about them, and they were good to me, so I'm going to stick with them", essentially saying that they don't care that others have been screwed over because it was not them. What those kids don't understand is that they are only perpetuating the bottom of the barrel 'companies' and forums to continue to thrive, be it with poor by passable product or be it with massively distorted or slanted information available. This in turn continues to have an effect on the perception of car audio as a whole, and why it is becoming a lesser and lesser enjoyable hobby as it once was. Much of this fake presentation is supported by giving out free product under the guise of a review. This breeds the blind fan boys that only add more fuel to the above mentioned issue of distorted/filtered/false information to assist in making money off people who don't know better who end up buying inferior product or buying from an inferior company. /sadly I know this rant won't make a difference or effect much of anything
  5. Oh and my Medical Retirement is looking like its going to happen. Its just a matter of time now. J
  6. First real shirt trick, I need to get some hair and try a hair trick haha.
  7. You know what's funny is 10 years ago eD had a terrible reputation because they would moderate their forum like nazi's and anything that wasn't praise or even could be misconstrued as anything but positive was deleted and the user banned. Now it seems that behavior is standard, not just for the companies but for their friends who are mods, and the few exceptions to this policy are places like SSA that lets all opinions be freely spoken, positive or negative. Negative comments might spark a disagreement in the thread, but atleast the posts still stand rather than being deleted and the user immediately banned.
  8. Correct, set the LPF by ear after everything is installed. Setting it to a specific frequency isn't important, all that really matters is how it sounds once you're done. Whether that means it's set to 80hz, 84hz, 73hz, 68hz, etc doesn't matter as long as you're happy with the sound of the results. A SSF is a subsonic filter. It is literally nothing more than a highpass filter with a really low crossover frequency and typically a steep slope (24db/oct). The intent of the SSF is to reduce the excursion of the subwoofer at low frequencies where it's possible the driver can potentially over-excurt and become damaged. When a subwoofer plays frequencies below the tuning frequency of a ported enclosure, a condition called "unloading" begins to occur where excursion isn't controlled by the enclosure. This leads to the possibility of over-driving the subwoofer and causing damage, with the risk increasing the further below tuning the subwoofer is playing. The SSF will increasingly limit the amount of power going to the driver and hence maintain a safe level of excursion. There are a lot of theories on where to set the SSF. Some will say to set it to the same frequency as the enclosure tuning. I disagree with this as it potentially unnecessarily limits the output within the intended passband (i.e. you'll lose some output where you probably didn't want to lose output, unless you are intentionally using it as a form of equalization....which isn't a bad idea either). Generally a safe setting is around 1/2 octave below tuning....to figure out where that is, multiply your tuning frequency by .75. Or load the enclosure and subwoofer into a modeling program, input the power you'll be using, look at the excursion graph and see where excursion begins to exceed Xmax (though this is generally around 1/2 octave below tuning, which is why that's a fairly safe setting).
  9. Nice update! Keep it up! And buy a damn alarm hugo!
  10. I'm honestly over these new companies running over people who speak their mind. I give honest reviews of everything I use. The shit will catch up with them. You can't sweep shit under the rug forever. Its not like I went out of my way to try and destroy AT. I just like trying out new products, getting my hands dirty and giving other average joes my opinion. Sometimes you get burned though.....
  11. SMD is the epitome of all that is unholy and stupid. CACOROEDIYMA can be moderated at a decently controlled level if At had the guts to do so... Being a vendor at one of those sites, i could allow someone to come in and tell me my product is crap and they are ready to kill us and torture us, etc, lol.. As long as i contact the right person via phone.. i can have that stay open as long as i want to, i have no problem with that.. But if a vendor chooses to allow the Admins to run their company for them.. that's where it's just a joke to the public. Take it from me.. If you are on CACOROEDIYMA as a vendor and your stuff keeps getting deleted by whoever, the vendor is being unprofessional. In the long run, either they or someone else is fixing their mistakes because they have no idea what to do...
  12. Fill them with rice, cat litter, etc, pour out, and measure.
  13. Midbass has a lot to do with installation. I assume this is a door installation. Have you deadened & sealed your doors? If not, that's step one. No sense in changing speakers until you have the installation solidified.
  14. Um Jon, we don't make amps yet.
  15. yall know my loyalty runs deep!!!
  16. Oh, it flew, flew right out the window and in the direction of SMD. Maybe they can make a package deal on their bullshit, I mean, distortion detector, and some AT deadinher.
  17. Of course. He's aware of this thread and is now in damage control mode.
  18. It's actually worse (and funnier) than that. It started with the soda can tests which proclaimed SDS the winner! He actually left that video on Youtube for something like a year. I was still getting queries up until a few moths ago from people wh saw the video. While he was gathering samples for the soda can testing, he got hooked up wth AudioWrap someow and was spamming their product. Soon after that he decided to launch his own product and started spaming forums again. Somebody from one of these forums e-mailed me to ask if I knew who cthedinger was. He told me the forum members had backed him into a corner by asking him to explain how vibration dampers work. About two minutes later I get an e-mail that starts: "Hey Don. I was just thinking about things. Can you explain to me how vibration dampers work - strictly for my own education"? No joke.
  19. i love by second skin, i put it on when it was cold ( by texas standards)and i did not use a roller, and it stuck, went thru a summer... it stayed (texas summer) then a winter.. and now were entering another summer, and its still holding strong.. no sliding. no falling no nothing. its great,.. and i have used other stuff... ... infact when i bought my black lincoln back, it was funny to see where the "other stuff" relocated too.. i think steve seen it too.... and secondskin just works... my trunk is a beast. almost 150 DB inside, and when you get outside my trunk is pretty fucking silent if you think about the force thats being thrown at it,
  20. Nice to see the truth will always prevail on SSA! Guess that is why almost all of us are here, covering shit up to help others is wrong!
