Welcome to the IHoP
4 pointsChill- Lemme break it down as simple as I can on some of us here. The IHoP is like a big dysfunctional family. -M5 would be the uncle everyone respects and takes advice from. We may not like how he phrases certain things, but we know he has a point in what he says. He also has the cool toys most of the family doesn't. -Tirefryr is the cousin we talk to who is much like M5 but minus the toys and who doesn't drink so much. -Sand is the great uncle. A bit cranky and will tell you how it should be. No fucking filter, no sympathy. He lays it out for you and you get the advice you need to hear. If its also what you want to hear, cool. If not too fucking bad. -Nem is the crazy cousin who is ALWAYS doing something to make us say WTF in a good way. He is a jack of many trades and a master of terrifying the children. You.........your the new brother in law that somehow got in the house and drinks all the beer and bitches when we have none left even tho you brought nothing with you. Calls us cheap asses for not having more, while telling us of your life and how shit has fucked you up. Secretly we all wish she wouldn't of married you, but since we are now stuck with you we try to help you as best we can. Too bad you never fucking listen and always bitch when shit turns out so wrong. J4 points

What amp for 2 Sealed Q15s?
1 pointJust sent an email, hopefully it's not too late. No upgrades yet, my car is still stock and I'm just getting all of the audio components first. I'm trying my best, just a bit hard to find some answers/good help from people. The people here on SSA are more than willing to help, myself included. I'd hate for you to spend a bunch of money and not have what you need/want.1 point

What amp for 2 Sealed Q15s?
1 pointI put my order in 5 days ago so I don't know if it's too late to change, or if they even do changes once the orde is placed. My budget is flexible to really whatever is the better option. I wouldn't want to go over $800. What electrical upgrades have you done? Either way I'd email sales 'at" ficaraudio.com and chabge it to dual 1's.1 point

Door project and 3 way active
1 pointThey aren't. The B&C's Xmax is rated as peak-to-peak, not one way linear. So the Seas' Xmax is actually twice that of the B&C. How do we know? Pretty easy, in this particular case, since both manufacturer's list the height of the magnetic gap and the length of the voice coil. The most simplistic definition of one-way linear Xmax is VC Overhang/2, we can use this information to compare the drivers "rated" Xmax. The B&C has a gap height of 6mm and a 12mm long coil; that only leaves 6mm of total coil overhang which when divided by 2 would be 3mm of one-way Xmax. The Seas on the other hand also has a 6mm gap height but has an 18mm long coil; 12mm of total overhang or 6mm of one-way Xmax. It's deceiving and if we didn't have that little tidbit of information about the coil overhand we wouldn't be the wiser. Aside from that, M5 hit every nail on the head. A 6.5" pro audio mid is not going to work well in a 2-way....midbass response will be non-existent.1 point

IAK needs an "IHOP"
1 pointOk gotcha. Chuck you are killing me. I thought you decided not to do a wall? I made some progress on mine as well. New amp and battery is in and playing. It looked like my batt/amp box was huge until I started putting stuff in there. It was late, came up one ring terminal short and had to use a couple random colors. Wiring looked pretty until the end when a few wires werent the right length. I'll go back and fix it all, just wanted to make sure all my wiring worked and hear the damn thing already. Luckily it all worked on the first go! Will probably do some cleaning up and carpet the top this weekend.1 point

Well, people have said things at shows as to why but i did not post it here because it's not proven. I sometimes do not want to know the reasoning even if it were true because then it would be forced upon everything one designs for and if the reason is actually lowering the score, it's caused by another random variable. Instead, i only use very basic principles on designing and everything else be optionally used but never forced regardless of outcome before testing. I could say, 6th order is always louder than ported enclosure.. So, without testing anything, i build a wall with a general ratio and assume that the score i'm getting is always better than ported.. No! Instead, i'd rather build a 6th order with the ability to adjust both ports and volumes independently to test for months to see what the meter is showing. How what effects what on the meter. The best thing i can say is this- There is and will always be unforseen variables in SPL whether it's environmental or user error but the point is this- No matter how much one knows on paper, it will never translate into the real world 100%. This is why many suggestions, rules of thumb, etc tend to be ignored for SPL only because of random outcomes. So, even by me saying less cone area is better for burps, i will elaborate and say that's a general rule of thumb for burping scenarios. It is not an end all solution to all competitors. These rules of thumb have been duplicated numerous times, but how they are duplicated should be past on with it. Example- the wall ratio i mentioned earlier. If it were true 100% of the time, then here is the problem- The suggestion has been taken for those who meter sealed on the dash. If I open a door, the conclusion may suffer and hurt the score bad. So, if a rule of thumb canis able to be duplicated, information about the environment it is duplicated in and how it's metered should be a part of that suggestion to give it just a little bit more acceptance as a possible norm for SPL.1 point- new team SSA build. 2 zcon 18s on 10k. 159.5db
Personally, I've never been a "burp god" and i find it pointless for my use to spend all kinds of money to build a burp machine that will fail to play music at a level comparable to the burp level on the meter. 99% of us SPL users on this forum and many others in other places for about the last couple years have moved away from burping only IF WE CAN and tend to display music output. Music > Burp. Now, those of us who do compete and have to burp for a certain class can play music quite well. These vehicles will typically have decent amount of cone area as required to be a great music demo machine. The reason why i do not do only 2 18s is because of the music ability. I run lots of power always and need lots of coils to dissipate that heat. I cannot break down the reason scientifically as to why less cone area is better for burping. I can tell you more cone area is better for averaging as that's easy to understand. More coils = longer play with efficiency loss from heat. We see what works in the lanes for years and go with it. Just like when building a wall, there is the common 6040 or even more common 7030 ratio. This means the ratio between the baffle to port surface area. This ratio though is typically only used when measuring sealed on the dash. Using it for other forms of measuring may not be ideal.1 point- new team SSA build. 2 zcon 18s on 10k. 159.5db

1 pointSS price might be better (haven't checked), but Don's "price" also comes with an extremely methodical system for achieving your goals with the least but most effective amount of material and an extremely detailed and comprehensive plan for deadening the vehicle, applying the product, etc. So while unit to unit the price might be cheaper, following Don's comprehensive plan might allow you to use less material than if you were to "plan" it out on your own which would be cheaper in the long run, plus you have one of the most knowledgeable guys in the industry detailing a plan specifically for you, your goals and your budget. Don doesn't have a cart checkout system on his site for a reason. He wants to have that conversation with the customer, to help them establish goals and a plan for achieving those goals. All in all I would say Don has the best bang for the buck, all things considered.1 point- Murder Mat
