  1. I had the extra money and "wanted to do it right" so when I bought my XCON 10" I paid SSA to design me a ported enclosure because I too wanted more output (despite enjoying sealed boxes the majority of my life (I'm 45 and got my first system at 18)). I was surprised when I got the design and it was almost a cubic foot larger than their optimal guidelines on the website, but I trusted them and it sounds nice, very...very...nice. I told them my max dimensions and desired goal- as smooth a frequency response as possible all the way up to 80 Hz (the HU crossover point). Point I'm making is they modeled it with software and picked the "best" design. Now, my electronic forum friend, go get that software, model it, and let us know what you come up with.
  2. Been running ampere audio amps, for some time. Used the DSP also. Still have the comp sets in the doors in my car. Fine gear. Lets see yours Old build in the blazer. 4 3800.s at .5 , 2 125.4's on the doors. Ampere 9k in my trunk build. Things huge. Current rig/set up. 6-3800's at .5, 2- 75.4's on the doors.
  3. There is no JL hate here. We all know they make very good products. The W7 is a good sub. I understand it might be frustrating, because you wanted answers we can't give you ! Build your ported box, tune to 34 Hz, with the volume you want/can, and have fun ! It will be much louder than sealed. If you don't like it, build another box, and so on ! Good luck.
  4. Use winsid, model the set up you have now , model jl ported specs, and them play around with box size, and compare the three responses and see what fits your needs.
  5. A 13W7 on 1200 watts should be very loud unless you're doing something wrong. If I were you I'd lean toward the musical side and go for a flatter response curve. I just hooked my 10" XCON, it's in a large ported box and it's loud enough on 500 watts and sounds GREAT, but "loud" is such a relative term...
  6. Hi everybody, Greetings from Accuwave. So here it is, the new APM-2. We've worked a lot with the SSA team in the past year to bring you one of the coolest devices to hit the SPL scene. The only stand-alone SPL meter compatible with Android, iOS and Windows 10 devices using Bluetooth Low Energy technology. No drivers required, no wires, no initial setup. In order to use the APM-2 with your device you require one of the following: iOS 8.4+ starting from Apple iPhone 4s Android 4.4+ with Bluetooth 4.0 support* Windows 10 enabled device(Phone, PC, Laptops, Tablets) with Bluetooth 4.0 support** * Due to different implementations of the Bluetooth drivers in Android, some devices may have unexpected connectivity issues. We are currently working around these issues. Works on all major phone brands. ** App is going online in the following days Sensor features: Individually tested and calibrated within 0.05 dB. Incredible measurement repeatability due to the 24bit industrial grade ADC, very short analog signal path and low noise design. Accurate measurements can be achieved from around 95.0 db up to 174.0 db. The high end will be improved in a future firmware update. 2Hz report rate with 1 Hz frequency accuracy. Stand-alone unit design. 9V Battery powered, with proper battery compartment (sorry for that APM-1 people). This was the only way we could achieve the proper low noise design, DC-DC converters in charging circuits are not friendly. RGB Logo light. Used as identification color when multiple sensors are connected. Approximately 10h continuous battery life with good Alkaline batteries. Auto-off after disconnection. OTA Firmware updates Current app features: Record Basscam videos with live SPL scores. No more wasting video time to film a PC screen. Realtime, Peak and Average scores on video recording. Connect up to 2 sensors in Basscam, record instant battles. Measure peak and view realtime scores. Measure an average score over a time period, countdown and class limit included. Video render time is device dependent. Sensor number limitations are platform specific: Max 5 sensors on Windows and Apple devices. Max 2 sensors in Android - will improve in future updates We are constantly working on adding more features, and you will receive app updates seamlessly. There's a lot of improvements we can do and we're actively working on the apps. Also, feel free to discuss any ideas we could implement.
  7. Everything needs twin turbos. Even twin turbos need twin turbos.
  8. $200-$600 camera, $300 lens, $150 lens, then !boom! $2000 lens lol
  9. Sweet. Had no idea. Welcome Ran the amps for some time now, in 3 different builds. From the 2k, several 3800's, and the 9k. Recent build. Its a partnership between me and a friend. Want in on the 59.9 bass race gig.
  10. You have heard this and heard that. They say this and they say that. You seem to be taking it with a grain of salt, which is good with most big box companies marketing strategies. Something I have noticed after being on this site for a while is that the seasoned members don't spout crap and hearsay. The newer members that do, typically learn fast or don't last long and move on looking for someone else to confirm their idea/plan/belief/etc. Asking questions is how we learn, just don't get upset if you don't like the answer. Taking a few minutes to install winisd and enter driver parameters isn't exactly a time to jump for joy, but plugging in for different box specs afterward can teach you a lot. Enter you current box specs since you know how that sounds, then enter your new desired box specs and see what changes. More or less output? Peakier? Flatter? f3? You just want a ballpark guess? Yes, a bigger box will be louder. Now what did you just learn? Nothing. How do you even know I am right? I don't even know if I am right, but you wanted a ballpark guess. Help us to help you. You wont receive a spoon-feeding here, but you will probably learn something. I know I have.
  11. Yes, first hand. Still no idea what you want. Spending $100 on the fat box would be a serious waste of time, there is no cheating Physics. It is really rather easy to model and figure out the differences. No one on here hates on JL, just on the way you are asking something that is atm unanswerable.
  12. And MK, the phone holder is way more robust than my water bottle holder. Lost my water bottle 1mi into a 10mi ride tonight, was thirsty
  13. Nobody is hating on JL, I dont care what you run. You get help then bitch about the help you want, man up and chill with the pettiness. Car audio is all about trial and error, either with the pen and paper method or building multiple boxes. What performs well in one box and in one car might not in another and so on. There is a build on SMD with 2 JL 13s i believe, doing 150 out of the trunk. It took a whole lot of trial and error, diffferent boxes and different ports. You want to be spoon fed, we told you at least try winsid and see what it says. Yes in car can be different but it will give you a starting point. Yes a ported enclosure will be louder than you current sealed enclosure, I have now experience with the 13w7 or a proper custom box enclosure for one. Search the web or plug in some numbers.
  14. I feel like an idiot for ever building a car or home stereo.
  15. Awesome, I will be picking up one.
  16. Awesome, I will be picking up one.
  17. Mine looks very similar except I used the phone rings on the front and the back plus the little rubber pre made boxes I call them baffles not sure the exact name but that's what sonic had them listed as. The wood pieces where listed as spacers.

    It's all done!!!!!
  19. Here is mine. I bought the wood ring at a local car audio shop. I don't have the tools to do it. I still need to work on the doors. I will buy everything from Sounddeadenershowdown or from secondskin.
  20. The understanding you need to run active you should also have if you install your own system. There are very few adjustments you need to make in a 2 way, but it isn't trivial. Taking the time to learn and plan and understand is huge, but the end result will destroy a comp set for even less budget. Component sets are almost always a rip off. There are lots on here to help...

I think the SSA shirts need to come in a larger sleeve diameter, it seems mine keep getting tighter.
  22. Thanks for the warm welcome guys. We will be posting up information about current products soon. Thanks again!

I am very pleased by the sound of the gcon. It is being powered by the rear channels of a US Acoustics Barbara Ann amp. It makes bass come alive while producing fantastic sound. Oh it can get window shaking loud. A dcon on steroids !
  24. Yes that's the plan street legal, but I was just asking if anybody had first hand experience with the w7's and knew if the JL specs where best for output (spl) or if I would get a better number from going bigger. I know fat box has a spl box that some say hits like crazy but there is no way to get the specs without buying the $600 box. Just thought somebody on here could give me some insight no big deal though I will figure it out myself. Maybe if I was asking a question about my crescendo amps and sundown subs I would get a little better answer on this site. Probably the JL hate I'm getting. Lol
