  1. NYC. Holy shit. Holy fucking shit. I understand everything now. I don't know if I could live there but I'm going to BEG to come to NYC if work needs it. The trains, the movement.... It was miserable today. My companion for the day is not on the same page as me for site seeing. >91 and incredibly humid. Light breakfast and could only stomach a salad in the evening. Only got about 2.5 liters of water in me and I'm sure I lost a gallon of more so far. Everything was against me and I fell in love with that place. I only got 22,000 steps in today surprisingly. Maybe I'll go for a little walk to bump those numbers. 2 train delays However. Also B&H... Oh yes please. I thought I was going to be intimidated but I felt at home instantly. I didn't expect it to hit me in my heart. I like where civilization meets nature usually. San Diego suburbs and the desert. Puerto Rico I'm the island of Vieques. The twin cities in MN of course... But NYC was as good as Paris. Just incredible to me. So amazing I can't wait to go back.
  2. Due the last thread having serious loading issues and bogging down the server, we started this continuation of the original. Carry on....
  3. Very fun to walk the city. We usually go do that is the fall because of the heat. I have been visiting canal st since 1994.
  4. Thanks! It is what it is. I have just been shooting a lot lately and I have plenty of room here at my house. On Labor Day we are going to a friend of mine's "farm" to do some shooting. We will be stretching our legs out to 500+ yards. Looking forward to that. I am easily at 1/2MOA on bags and bipods, and about 1/3 MOA on the sled when tied down. Believe it or not, my untied sled is not as good as bags/bipod. But the difference between 100 yards and 500 is HUGE. If I can keep it to sub MOA I'll be happy.
  5. Time to either build or buy a nice big swamp cooler, they work great and are very cheap to run.
  6. While from a photography perspective the small F stop is nice...I can't see for shit what you are shooting at
  7. 6-7" is what fits nicely in your truck. Any larger and you can't mate with a tweeter
  8. Without an experienced tuner 3 way setups generally sound worse.
  9. I've probably explained it more than 50 times on the board... Absolute horseshit compromise.
  10. Those subs aren't comparable at all. Seriously depends on your application. Can't you fit a single 12 of better quality than the above for the same budget? I'd also seriously figure out how good of a deal you could get on the w6's...
  11. How about a single 12". $250 buys you a real 12.
  12. So sell it, buy a sheet of MDF for $40, some carpet for $10, and build a box for a 12. That'll up your budget and let you shop for even better drivers.
  13. Wires? First step you need crossovers, then wires. None of your current wiring will work though. What are you using for a crossover?
  14. Advice so far is don't buy, it won't work
  15. I couldn't think of a more awful place to design an enclosure. Would be easier, faster, and more accurate to do by hand IMO.
  16. 5 minutes isn't all that long, lol. Ported/sealed really not much difference in effort. Learning to do it by hand will really help your understanding. Only reason to use software ever is for seeing response changes
  17. Those will be a huge hot mess in a car. Even 4" FR's have a super teeny sweet spot. I move my head 6" in my office and the sound is annoyingly bad compared to when I have it where it should be. Using w4-1337's in ported enclosures with a sub crossed in on the low end. Expect to also need rather heavy eq on an FR of larger size. Has to be a way to help your install though. Although by nature 3" drivers are anemic.
  18. More of an enclosure might help the low end of the 3 as well. With the 5" you will miss the sparkle. The 4's in my office give me plenty, but sitting position is critical.
  19. The fad stems from doing a 2 way. A 2 way with an FR is a huge improvement to a 2 way with a 7 & tweet. Yes lots of factors and sure a tweeter helps, but there is quite the jump from simple 2 way processing to 3.
  20. F If that portion of the front stage only needs to play nice from 300Hz+ I'd much prefer a single 3" driver to a 5" and a tweet. The caveat of course being a car with a dash where this can actually work. Physical limitation cannot be overcome.
  21. In a car with a decent dash it is WAY easier with the widebander. WAY.
  22. The complexity reduction is huge. I've heard a shit ton of piss poor 3 way front stages but never a bad fr setup. Limitations there are but worrying about 10k+ in a car isn't worthwhile
  23. You got suckered into posting by someone voting, lol. Old ass thread.
  24. I doubt that was ever a consideration. the whole goal of building something "different" is insane. So many people pursuing bandpass or tline alignments that don't even understand what makes a standard ported enclosure successful or not it is insane. Seriously, if you have to ask you have no purpose in building one. Like zero, nada, nilch.
  25. I'd do a 3 way or 2.5 if you really want to amp it up. As for what, it all sort of depends on your craving for midbass. A single ported 10" PA driver could do the job as well, but that isn't as trivial of an install. How much space are you willing to give up and how well does it need to blend?
  26. What you have sounds like ass and what you are proposing is not going to sound any better. Absolutely the opposite of right. Super tweeters have ZERO place in a car.
