  1. Thanks! Yeah it really came out nice, it was worth driving 6 hours lol. It's really solid too, no flexing at all or anything. I'll have to get pic of the terminals tomorrow, they are really nice. The port is definitely my favorite part, it looks even better in real life. Hopefully it won't rain all day again tomorrow!
  2. Ok, rained all day so no video . I do have some pics though! Played around with it a little more today, so far I'm really pleased with the Xcon's. I listened to a bunch of slowed rap songs and they sounded great! It's crazy because I feel like its louder than some of the high SPL vehicles I've sat in even though I know it's not. Video's do no justice for these woofers. I also listened to a song by Rage Against the Machine while I was demoing for my dad. It sounded like a concert! You get that feeling in your chest every time the bass hits. Nice and precise. Unfortuately the dimming is back lol, but I it plays fine at idle. Voltage only drops down to about 13 on most songs. Hoping the sunroof isn't going to break but it seems inevitable. Anyway, here are some pics. Hopefully I can do a vid tomorrow if it stops raining. This is the unloaded enclosure that Dave the box guy built me. My signature yellow port lol. This one is neon and it will actually fluoresce with a black light. Some nice bracing. Good thing I didn't make this lol. Shot of the port from the inside The Xcon's installed. I still need to brace the rear deck and finish the sealing. That means it will be even louder with less cancellation! Also it will get rid of that annoying metal flapping sound lol. Wish I could have gotten some shots of the amp, but it's still raining... I'll be sure to post a video and some more pics. I'll document some of my sealing progress as well, now that I think about it I don't think there is enough of that online for us trunkers.
  3. Finally got the 40.1 in today. As some of you may know, I had to go camping right after I got my enclosure. I decided to go visit my friend EXOcontralto and he had the tools I was missing to hook it up. After making a little make shift amp rack, we got it all hooked up and ready to go. The trunk isn't fully sealed off yet, so it should get a little louder when I finish sealing the rear deck. All we did was match the gain and let it rip lol, and it was still amazing without even changing the settings. These subs are insane! The only issue I have now is my sunroof is flapping on the low bass songs lol. The car takes ~3500 watts on just two ~70 AH batteries and the stock 120 amp alt surprisingly well. Lights still dim and all (damn sensitive lights), but the voltage stays above 13 from what little experimentation I had. I'll have a better update tomorrow. Pic's and hopefully a quick vid.
  4. Thanks!!! Amp rack turned out pretty good for the space. Those XCONS you got are going to pound! If I ever get them going haha! I got my enclosure on Saturday (late at night) and I had camping reservations for Sunday. I got the Xcon's in and somewhat sealed from the trunk, but I was going to hook up that amp at the campground. Then I realized I forgot my drill and the ring terminals on the 0 awg don't fit my battery screws in the back without being drilled out a little bit. Needless to say I am a little disappointed and excited lol. Be on the lookout on Wednesday, hopefully I'll have a vid up or something lol. Sorry for the slight thread jack.
  5. Nice work with the build! I really like the amp/battery rack. I know mine isn't going to look that good haha.
  6. Marc, I did indeed get the sub yesterday morning. I've played all day with it yesterday and have been doing at shit load of reading. My concern was that I installed the sub and went in town to see a customer. Ride was about 45 minutes, of course I blasted a couple of songs. When I got there I got out of the car and went and touch the sub and amp and they were both hot. The sub had a little smell (I guess this is normal?) So on I went searching and found shit on clipping. Boy have I read a lot the last 24 hours... Anyways, I found that I need to adjust my amp and this is how I did it: Downloaded a 0db 40hz test tone. Plugged my digital meter in the speaker leads of the amp. (I don't have an oscilloscope) Put volume at 26out of 35 and let her rip. BTW my system has 0 distortion at full blast volume (35) I adjusted to 34volts ac. (1200watts connected to 1ohm) anyways, that's what I read to do... Boy what a difference in sound...very clean! BUT Shit... no power!!!! It is so much lower in volume...I guess I need a stronger amp? Anyways I'm very happy with the sub...it sounds better than my Orion 12D I had. (Quality wise) Of course I'm comparing a 12year old sub to brand new!!! I will put pictures up with a small review soon. Thanks for everything but I may not be done buying shit from you. A happy Canadian (old man) customer... Now that you have a reference point try adjusting the gain by ear to a level just below the distortion point (unless you want it set differently). It may take a little bit of playing around with it on different songs to get it right, but most songs are not recorded at 0 db, they are usually at like -5 or -7. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it's not clipping/distorting. Impious beat me to it lol
  7. Thanks! Yeah I just took out the spare tire and jack for now, I'm getting AAA for my car so I'll still be covered if I pop a tire or something. Had to put heavy duty springs on the car to deal with the weight because that is a weak point on this car. I think it's definitely going to be worth it though! I'd give you a demo but you are kind of far away haha.
  8. Ok so it's been a while. Finally the Xcon's came today (Thanks Aaron for dealing with me asking when they would be here lol) and they look amazing! I can tell this is going to be awesome before I can even listen to them. Here are some pics of the sexyness. Oohhh... The magnet is HUGE and heavy. It's hard to get a picture of it, but the voice coil looks awesome too. Definitely top notch quality. The iconic dustcap. Looks great it real life, I think it will look better with a little excursion. I was trying to get a pic of the voice coil but you still can't really see it that well. Pole vent. Going to have some fun with this tonight!! Haha j/k One last pic of the beasts. Also here is some stuff I did a couple days ago. I ran the 1/0 wire from front to back. It was actually really easy which really surprised me. The 1/0 fits right through the stock grommet. I have to wonder why that was in the design, but it was pretty awesome. This is where I cut the hole for the ground run of 1/0. Again, a surprisingly easy place to do this. I love seeing all of those connections . GM terminals are way better than the posts IMO. Just a pic of the fuse holder. Wire was really easy to get in there which was nice. Sorry for the huge delay, but this volvo is going to be bumpin in just a few days. Dave the box guy is building my box and he'll be done either Saturday or Sunday. Keep on the lookout for my next update!
  9. You could try doing two 12" btls sealed from the trunk facing forward. This way the back wave is completely isolated from the front wave, so there is no cancellation (for the most part). That's more surface area than a 15, with a lot more motor force. I wanted to do 2 15's for the longest time, and my trunk actually has enough volume, but it would just be way to much of a challenge to fit them in there.
  10. I love the lights on the amp (kind of like a spectrum analyzer only not), that looks awesome.
  11. Not a fan of kicker at all...not really going to go into it but i dont care much about their products...not going to hate on someone getting/using kicker, just not going to buy it myself. as far as cost...all i care about is quality. i could care less how much it costs (within reason). its the same principle on my truck, do it right or dont do it at all...its always the little things that makes the difference. but between the RF and sundown, i think the sundown amp would match better in my truck than the RF..though either amp would do the job fine. I'm not much of a kicker fan myself either. If you don't care about price then I'd go Sundown all the way, I wasn't sure if the budget was part of your concern. Good Luck with whatever you get!
  12. Have you considered the Rockford Fosgate 1000-1BDCP? Its the constant power version of the 1000bd, and it does 1000 watts rms at 2 ohms I believe. I think Kicker amps are rated for 2 ohms mostly as well, might be worth it to take a look. Sundown is awesome though, just seems like it may be cheaper to consider some other options. Hope this helps.
  13. I like the idea of green... I'd like to see how it turns out, looks amazing so far.
  14. Thanks man! I need some tips lol I'll make sure to ask you. I really liked how your pods came out. Now I'm afraid to take the pods back out because they sound so good.
  15. Just ordered the Xcon's! The lethal injection is being sold to my friend. I wasn't going to sell it, but I need to recoup some money before I go back to college . Excited for the Xcon's though.
  16. Thanks man! Yeah, I love monoprice. Such cheap cables with such great quality.
  17. Here's a pic of the battery: I installed it yesterday, took out the Batcap 400 as well. BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE! I am so happy with this battery, I can be sitting at idle with the a/c on and not drop below 14-13.8. Absolutely no dimming lights, it was like night and day. I feel like a nerd being so excited about the voltage, but I just can't believe the difference it made. And now, after the comp I keep thinking of songs I could of used for the 30 second average that might have been better. Damn. lol.
  18. Went to a bass comp today! I actually entered, and I'm happy I did. I hit 134.5 @ 34 hz (at least that's what the song peaks at). Not bad I'd say, I got a little certificate too. I also picked up a battery from my friend EXOcontralto. I'll get some pics up in a bit.
  19. Hey man, atleast you weren't quoted $900 with the Volvo lol. I understand the build quality, I just don't have the cash this year .
  20. Ok, big update today. I did most of this stuff about a week ago, I just hadn't gotten to putting the pics up yet. Basically, I received all of my wire, fuses/holders, and accessories and I redid the big 3. I also installed my stinger volt meter. Enjoy! Here's a look at all of the stuff. These are the fuse holders. 300 amp Fuses, Battery Terminals, Ring Terminals, and Grommets. 200 amp Fuses and a Stinger Volt Meter. Knukonceptz Collossus Fleks wire, this is some really nice stuff. Super flexible, great looks (if that matters to you). This is the Knukonceptz SS speaker wire. I got some 8 awg for the subs, I really like the thick jacket on this stuff. Just a little comparison of the wires. These are my ridiculous monoprice rca's and aux cable. The rca's were only a couple bucks but they are NICE. Great option if you want to keep the budget low, but the performance high. A close up of the most ridiculous aux cable I've ever seen. I also picked this up for $3.00. Comparison of these wires. My old big 3 wires. A little burn on one of them, the way they were connected put too much stress on the contact points and frayed the wires. Bad situation to be in, haha. Luckily I changed them out before it became a big problem (Voltage suffered though ) This is the battery location without the battery box. The original ground was below it, but I relocated it. I relocated the engine block ground to the bolt just under the air box. The alternator location with the dip stick taken out. I know you are all jealous! haha, I had to crush my hands to fit them in there. Good thing I had some ratchet extensions. The new wires ready for their new home. It's a garage chair, don't hate lol. Battery back in place with the new terminals. Looks nice, I love it. New alt cable going into the crevice where the alternator dwells lol. Secured pretty snugly to prevent movement in the engine compartment. Here is a farther away look at the battery. Top terminals are only temporary, until I do the new runs to the back. I'm waiting on the subs/enclosure to do that, I want it to come out right the first time. The new Stinger meter installed and calibrated. Usually charges between 14-14.5 depending on heat (90 today). Still charges strong at 14 with the a/c on and everything now. I'm very pleased with the results of the new big 3 install and volt meter. Looks a lot better than my old volt meter, and it's much more accurate. If you saw the rust and you were like, what a pos, remember I live in Maine and everything gets rusty the second it thinks about going on the road. haha. 14 days until I order the Xcon's! WOOOO!!
  21. These are also some cheap fuse holders, they seem pretty nice I actually have some at my house. This place has free shipping too http://www.audiosavings.com/products/Amplifier-Fuse-Holder/NEW-TSUNAMI-FBW811N-ANL-1-0-OR-4-GAUGE-FUSE-HOLDER/FBW811N-ANL.aspx
  22. Well, I did design a box that would fit the 15's ported to 32 hz. It would actually work, but I'd have to take out the middle seat belt, and cut a huge hole in the rear deck which I've decided is too much of a pain to be worth it. The port would have be 4" x 32" for 128 sq in of port area. Even if I made it smaller it would have been too hard, so I've decided to go with the 12's. Now I just need to decide who I want to design the box for me (I want it to be spot on). Thanks for the help along the way everyone!
  23. I'm sure that car has steel/metal lined seats in the back, so if you don't have a ski port you'll have to fold down the seats like I do. It's quite the pain in the ass to say the least lol. I'd say do whatever you can fit. I'm sure 2 LI's or DR's would be awesome.
  24. Yes this would be for the 15's, if I can. I'll have to see if I can fit all of these ports after work lol.
  25. Yeah... I'm definitely considering it. The extra space would be kind of cool, I was just hoping this would be the build that I could use some big speakers with a little ingenuity (turned out to be a lot of it). My stubbornness wants me to keep trying but my logic is telling me to just do the twelves.
