I am sure you have given her the best life that you could, and will continue to. That is the best you can do man.

There are many good reasons to attend college. My opinion is 90 percent of the people that do are there for the wrong reason though. Or are going for a job they could obtain without a degree. It can be a great confidence builder and motivator. Unfortunately no guarantee to a job. My wife finished 2 years of college this spring. During her internship, she worked with people that had completed 3x the schooling and others that had simply hired on and received on the job training. They all preformed the same tasks, for relatively the same pay. Not to say all jobs are that way, but worth looking into. A lot of others get a degree but end up working in a completely unrelated field. Either because they didn't enjoy the daily job tasks or because they find a better paying job along the way. This is why I suggest doing something you would already do as a hobby. Maybe not the exact trade, but that daily tasks are something you enjoy performing. There are many great minds throughout history that created the modern world without college. They had the tenacity to go for whatever they set their minds too. Whatever the choice, make sure it is a well thought out one.

Other than the welders settings being a little off, hand motion and speed are key. Try doing little "eeee's" or "zzzz's" to stitch the weld into both pieces. Push the puddle, don't pull. The only other thing is prep the metal first, you will get less impurities in the weld. As with most things, prep is as important as the final pass. Welding is about the closest thing to tattooing as far as prep, settings and hand motion/speed. I can tighten my hand motions if the settings are to low or loosen them if the settings are to high. There is a point of diminishing returns of course. If thats a Miller 251, you have a great machine to learn with. I have started to learn aluminum with that machine and its made the learning curve easier.
