  1. Thanks for the chart Sandt38. I have been using one just like this for the last few weeks for learning what I am hearing. I know my build log got kinda long.lol. the type-r's where my last setup. Heres a few pics of the current setup. I had the xovers set at: FI Sub-50hz 12db slope Aura mids-50hz 12db slope ----400hz 12db slope. Fostexs highs-500hz 12db slope I had a little underlap between the mids and highs.
  2. Thank you for your thoughts Sandt38. For THIS set-up, I am trying to acheive the best sound stage possibly I can, even if it takes changing my perpective of "good sounding" to sterile. I know as soon as I change midbass drivers or enclosure setup I will have to reblend everything. My biggest decovery with the steeper slope on the BTL is how much it cleaned up the sound, whether or not it will blend that way when I am done is another story. I like the warmth that the sub gives with the shallow slope, IS why I am pretty sure I just need to change My Q alignment on the midbass and hopefully I can get the warmth without the sub. The TRUE sub notes sound AMAZING even with the steep slope, SO I am just missing the midbass notes up front to give me the sound stage I am after.
  3. I haven't ran the numbers myself, but using an accurate modeling is a good idea. It helps to visualize the differences. Building some test boxes to see what you think of the differences would also help you along. Thanks for the help guys. I didn't really expect anyone to do the math, I just was making sure my understanding of the physics and concept of theory where solid. I am pretty sure I am good. I will report back with the test results.
  4. H R Giger TOP
  5. I had an 'artsy' version of this hanging in my room last tour. This is actually a pitcure of a real sculpture thats in one of H R Gigers museums. We have quite a few H R Giger posters hanging in our tatt shop and people are always bring us more as tips becuase they don't want to hang them up at their own house.lol.
  6. The re-rebuild looks good. Hope I never have to fuck with that.
  7. I couldnt find the jar painting, BUT heres the "Birth Machine"
  8. Thats morbid. I always liked the Giger's painting of the fetis in a jar, Or the birth machine.
  9. People always want tattoos while they are on vacation. A friend of mine moved to Myrtle Beach this year to tattoo. I live in a VERY touristy area, I live in the Aspen Valley and am only an hour from Vail. Its insane how many people decide to get inked on vaction. I have done tattoos on people from all over the world.
  10. I could only dream of vacation right now, this is my busiest time of year. I work when everybody else is playing and I play when everyone else is at work.
  11. You can but its not suggested. The amp will always stay on if you power wire is constant like it should be. Why not hook it to the HU?
  12. Vacations are always good....
  13. I ASSUME my math and assumptions on Q values are correct, BASED on no one answering????? I ASSUME this is the math box programs use to gragh out FR. I will admit I never thought to run anything other than my sub through winisd. I will redownload winisd today since I erased it due to a bug before. On another note, I have made MAJOR break throughs this week in my quest for true SQ. I realize where I went wrong the most is too shallow of a slope on the low end of the Aura's. I will admit that my novice ass liked the extra colored sound that I was getting with the shallow slopes, BUT I had to remind myself this isn't an SPL car. My stupid novice ass willl take ALOT more time dialing everything in this time, I lost track of my goal I guess. Hard to kill the monster. SO where does this leave me in my quest for a new set of 10" midbasses, you may ask. Well now that I spent the last couple weeks tuning my ear and brain for SQ, and getting back on track of my SQ goals, I think I should give the Aura's another chance. I THINK I should build a sealed test pod at .6 cu ft and do some A B comparisons between the test box and my door with better crossover settings AND the sub turned off, SO I can develop a more subjective opinion of what SQ sound I am really after out of the mids. Let me know if you think I am on the right track. Thanks for helping out the:noob: .
  14. Its for a second vehicle thats on the back burner at the moument is why I was trolling egay. I wish I had the extra money at the current time but I don't. Thanks for the offer. You shouldn't have a had time selling it though.
  15. I am starting to have a better and better tuned ear and I recognize most novices are going to prefer the distortion. PLUS throw road noise into the equation and I really start to think things are missing in the 80-250 range. I have a few more spots to deaden/barrier and a couple body cavitys I am going to block with foam thats about as good on road noise as my poor honda is going to get short of buying quieter tires. I am starting to understand where I went wrong with the Aura's. the shallow slope down low on the Aura was letting to much lows go throw the mid drivers at high volumes, and the over lap from the 15" BTL was not allowing me to hear the strain. I will take more time setting my slopes before even turning the sub on this time. PLUS I think I had too shallow of a slope on the crossovers thus creating the extra distortion/harmonics and my novice ear keep wanting that sound. BUT now that I am REALLY tuning in my ear and I am REALLY liking the cleaner sound with the 18db slope!!! I am starting to think I like the sterile sound alitte more now that I am stuck with the crappy 10" Sony subs I have in my doors right now. I honestly think I may already be happy with the Q alignment I had with the Arua's IF i had the right xover settings. I came up with a Qtc of .5 in my current door volume of around 2 cu ft. I came up with a Q alignment in the .7 range in a .6 cu ft range SO I am thinking I am going to build a .6 cu ft sealed box and do some testing with the on good Aura. I think this will help me learn ALOT. ALSO on another note, with the sub set to 50 hz with an 18db slope makes me hear a few rattles/buzzes I wasn't hearing before. I guess I'm not done sound proofing after all. Sorry to thread jack your shit Cobra but I though you might find it relevent. And For you Seth if you are wondering about the thread I am refering to, heres a link. http://www.soundsolu...midbass-driver/ One last thing, Can I download the Box build Pro for free off the internet Or do I have to buy it?
  16. Wish I was closer, I would come for sure.
  17. I am exited to see this go together!!! This is one of my favorite builds. I love the color. Everything looks killer as usaul!!
  18. Are you listening to the mids by them selfs? Do you hear the db drop in these frequencys? What difference in sound did you find being mounted in the door and the test box? AS far as my opinion of the aura's, I honestly was pretty happy with the sound they gave the music. I should of took more time fine tuning them before driving them so hard but live and learn. They blended really well crossed from 50 to 400 with a 12 db slope, but I should of had a steeper slope down low for wanging on them. They could of easly played higher. The only way I could pick them out of the sound was to turn them down. They where more on the sterile side which I think is why I kept wanting to lower the slope so I could pick them out, otherwize they where clean sounding and really added the warmth I am after. I may still buy another Aura and give them one more chance. remember I am a novice so take subjectivly. Other than that you see where I am at on my thread. I downloaded test tones today for reference testing. I am really working on what I did wrong to pop the one Aura before I really start looking for replacements.
  19. good choice of equipment. Everything looks good and I bet it sounds pretty good too.
  20. Whats wrong with that POS now?
  21. As a landlord myself I can tell you it is not smart to buy a $200,000 house to rent out. People renting out big houses are not usually there for long. I have a big house like that I rent out and 3 smaller houses in not so nice neighborhoods. The big house was my last house, and rather then selling it we decided to rent it out. We found that it sits vacant and rolls over more then the others. People renting these houses are usually those who have had an issue in their main home, such as a fire or whatnot, that requires them to be out of their house for a few months, or people building houses in that area and wanting their kids to warm to the schools before hand, etc. They are just very temporary renters. The smaller houses rent quickly, as they are cheap, and they are in areas where the average renter can't afford to move real quick, you know first and last months and paying for a moving truck is a struggle. Yeah, maybe it seems cold renting to people who simply can't afford to leave, but it is business. thanks for all the advice. Like I said, I am hoarding money and trying to buy a house. I know this may take several years but so may finding the right one, mostly due to the SUPER infated prices everyone bought at here a few years ago. These people are just sitting in place so not to many available right now other than forclosures. the funny thing is my dad owns a pawn bussiness that also pawns/buys/rents houses and buys cars. I couldn't imagine how many houses he owns just based off the ones I know about. He makes his money off other peoples misfortunes by having money to invest when the opportunity arises. YES he is a loan shark, the one time I tryed to borrow money he wanted 24% intrest from his own son.
  22. Wait a minute, I thought the sun rise's in the east SO that means its later there not earlier.
  23. I didn't think about it like that. I on the other hand only need 6 hours of sleep a night AND today is only my wednesday.
  24. Please broaden your veiws on the statement in red. Most people prefer distortions in these ranges as the seem louder because of the distortion. The drivers tend to provide more of a presence. Ask many people who have heard a Brahma MKII what they thought about it. Being super linear many people felt it was non-existent in the system, or too laid back not enough impact. Thanks for your anwser brother. I agree an untrained ear will choose distortion over sterileness in the midbass range, I just wanted you subjective opinion.
