SA-8 as midbass?
You can make em' fit. The 20 lbs is only noticable for the first couple days. I think SA-8 would work great for a midbass. If you like heavy midbass then your on the right path. I don't think the SA-8 likes being sealed though, SO stick with IB of the door.

Bigger Amp???
I want to say I got greedy with volume. With the wrong signal is how I killed the driver. I know the moment it happened.
-
Bigger Amp???
My budget is 400 bucks for both drivers. My budget for a bigger amp is. 600. So A thousand for both.

Bigger Amp???
Well, the sonys are definetly HEAVIER than the Aura's. I felt the difference right away opening/closing the doors. I think I am definetly switching mid bass drivers to something rated for a little more power AND MORE EFFICIENT. The Auras are 84db@1watt/1meter and the sonys I put in temperarly are 88db@1watt/1meter, I already notice the difference in output, even on the same amp and gain setting. Well a little lower on the gain. I am looking at the Daber Audio 10" in the SSA store and it is looking tasty. The Daber's will handle 600watts rms and are 88db@1watt/1meter. I am open to suggestions for a heavy duty 10" sub that will play up to atleast 500hz.

I guess the tittle should of been "smaller amp???". I feel like a jackass. I guess I learned why speakers are rated the way they are. Not that I shouldn't of already know, but........ BTW the crappy Sonys are installed for the moument.

You will want CDs you are familliar with and that aren't to busy. I think older recordings sound better to me because of how they where recorded/produced, not compressed, or boosted on the mixing board in the studio. I look for music thats well microphoned in the studio, like Metallica for exsample. I usaully listen to a few different genre's so I can pick at different instrarments as I am tuning. Your brothers opinions will be PRICELESS, buy that man a 12 pack. BTW I listen to just about EVERY type of music out there, everything from Speed metal to country western all the way to hip-hop and rap. I have REALLY been enjoying the live channel on sirius(17) and ALOT of jazz just because my system sounds SOOOO NATURAL.

It all makes sense. You are good the way you are wiring everything. First step, choose rough xover points and set the gains LOW. The first problem you are going to run into is getting all the different drivers in phase with each other. the out of phase drivers will be fighting/barking at each other SO this is going to the first step after choosing rough xover points. you will want to start with the highs first, once they are in phase with each other, then add in the next set and get those drivers in phase, then add the next set and repeat until you get to the subs. You DON'T want to turn everything on at first, just the highs and then work your way down adding one set at a time. You want to choose xover points for all the drivers that will allow them to work in concert without fighting/barking at each other. One tip I will give you is try a little underlap at the crossover points, More so the higher ones. The next step is matching the gains. You will once again set you highs by themselfs to the highest level they will play, then bring each set up to that level one at a time. once you have everything in phase and the gains roughly set you will slowly notice little things to fine tune. i.e. adjusting the speakers that sound out of place/barking. you can also listen to each pair by themselfs once set up to make sure you aren't staining anything. Don't expect this all to happen in one day either, it will take a few weeks.

Bigger Amp???
Well, upon insection of the voice coils this morning I will say I was giving these drivers too much power. The voice coil on the living driver is dis-colored (blued) pretty much top to bottom but no burnt spots. the cooked driver, well, the VC is cooked. I wanted to take pics, but I ended up inspecting through the vent holes and they have screen on them so no go on the pics. In my defence I want to say that distortion is VERY HARD to hear in these frequencys. As far as setting everything up I think I did fair, I just pushed the drivers to hard with the wrong/right material playing. like I said I was showing off the drums to a drummer friend and got carried away with the volume. As of now I am leaning towards using an actual subwoofer for a mid-bass now that I now I only want them to play up to 400hz. I have some free sonys somebody gave me SO for now I will install a couple of them. Like I said they were FREE.

Just to save me from rereading the whole thread, remind me of all the speakers and amps you are using and how you plan on wiring them?
