Two-way active front stage
Thanks, not really spoonfeeding... I was told they were completely out since they stop producing them so I believed that. But anyway, would like to see how yours works out. What car are they going in? And what full ranges have you looked at? I decided on horns but the install is going to require some surgery to my truck.

Well it seems that jroadtatts got 2 of the last three aurasound 10s . Good snag I should have been quicker haha. So back to the search for a midbass I guess. I was reading about a guy that used a morel CAW 938 9", I think that's the model, and said it worked well for him, don't know if it was in a three way though. What about an SLS 10? Or hivi 10.8

Really, I love my tahoe! My doors must have slightly different framing or bigger panels, my 6.5s are 3 inches deep and are far back in the door and three inches out from there would put me about an inch and a half out. I think I am going to try it, need to find the same panels at a junkyard first just in case, this seems like it will be tough. Oh, and should I dampen the doors sheet metal more, and maybe even deaden the plastic? It will be a good amount of bass. The leviathan will be giving them a good 500 I'm guessing, won't be using all of it I know, but still

I definately don't mind using some of the space, the door feels too empty as it is . But there really should be room, they aren't the most shallow of doors as you know, you have a 02 silverado right? If it's the best solution for what I am going for then I will be willing to do whatever I can. Plus, I hate to admit it, but I would enjoy the cool factor of full size horns and a pair of 10s up front haha.

That herculiner looks really sick. Like the port too.- Two-way active front stage
SWEEEEET. I ordered a pair, as they only had a few left. I wasn't taking no chances. Now I just need to find a 3"er to go with em'. Ok... Where were they?- Two-way active front stage
Also thinking a Leviathan to run the front stage. That should be plenty of headroom for the horns and the mids/subs (if i get 10s I guess I will just say I am running two sub stages haha). So M5, is this the set up you were referring to when you said this will give me both the great soundstage and the output I am looking for? And are they required to be in a sealed box or is IB fine?- Two-way active front stage
What site has them j-roadtatts? I can use my deep doors to my advantage if I use those. What should I use as damping for those!!- Two-way active front stage
Well as for the budget, I can take some out of my HT budget so potentially whatever I need to spend to get the drivers I need. I actually listened in threads before this one (eventually ) and have money set aside for the install so a couple hundred or little more would be fine.- SAZ-2500D Prototype Is Here !
Maybe just a hint as to what the presale price will be? The test results out yet?- Two-way active front stage
Really, I want better defined drums, especially kickdrums for the metal and other rock I listen to. I mean output is important, I still want good quality thuogh. So I would sacrifice output before losing any more accuracy or quality. My sub stage will be crossed low, probably 50Hz so I will be missing out above that I am guessing, I already am right now and its not very satisfying.- Two-way active front stage
That sounds like me then. See they are in your future system upgrade list too. What amp are you expecting to use with them?- Two-way active front stage
OK, so I am pretty sure after my measurements horns will work!! I will go with the full size but which one should I buy from the ID line. So now I gotta decide on the 8" midbass and amplifiers, I was looking at the HiVi D8.8s and peerless SLSs. Not sure if the HiVi will work, its rather large. Also the Dynovox's? Is that the right type of driver, I couldn't find too much information on them.- Two-way active front stage
I will have to check those out. Yes that will be beyond my skill level I believe, the dash that is. I also was measuring down under the dash and it seems next to impossible, I am not sure if the AC or heating unit can be tampered with. I do have a friend that works on a lot of tahoes, but not in the audio department, I will still see if he knows anything about that. So it's looking like tweeters or a full range. Tomorrow I will get the pictures up to see if anyone has seen anything like that work before just in case.- Two-way active front stage
On top if the dash wouldn't be a good idea would it? And the horns need to be as far back as possible, but how far back would be ok?- Two-way active front stage
Are those image dynamics mini horns decent, I am not sure if they are just slightly smaller or what. But as for the large format horn, I think it would be able to work if I either had it on-axis (although I heard not to do that with horns) or maybe upside down, making the driver on the far left and right sides of the car (does make a big difference?). Otherwise I guess I have to figure out a way to modify my AC, and that doesn't sound easy, or cheap for that matter.- Two-way active front stage
Ok that was real helpful......- Two-way active front stage
Oh I responded last night, the two posts are on page two, they should explain some things.- Two-way active front stage
Oh, and my mistake, Cablguy184s first post, the eighth post or so of the topic, is a good reference of the passenger side (second picture). If you notice the large black box jutting out, it seems it would impede the install of the horn, really wish it wasn't there. If you need better pics let me know.- Two-way active front stage
Sorry guys, real busy weekend and I can see there was a lot of effort put into this post. So let me get into everything. The pictures cable guy have are actually very similar to my car, although M5 is right, my goals may be a bit different than yours considering SQ isn't really my priority. But just as a reference I am working with that. I wouldn't mind stretching that budget either, especially for horns, wouldn't require quite the power as others to get loud so always a plus, not to mention if they are anything like my dad's klipschs, that would sound awesome (he just got the rf-62s.... lucky). The only problem is that with the full size horns, under the dash is limited by the AC, I need to get a photo of that. I have seen them put in the pillars and on top of the dash, not sure how that sounds though. So maybe the minis? My doors are very well damped now, along with CCF and MLV (reallllly made a difference). Not sure if 8s would fit in the kicks so I am guessing doors are a must, plus I would have to alter my door anyway, so I could put them as far away as possible and a bit more on axis, although I guess many of the frequencies from that won't be as localized. Hope that's enough!- Two-way active front stage
I definately have a good bit of room back there, there is a hole in the framing from the original mount and almost four inches behind that point, I also built out a baffle for my current set up so I could do that again, there is a 2 1/2 inch space between that and the frame so no issue there. So how do you feel about the peerless sls 8, or the L8, or any others like that ans what would you recommend? Also I was thinking maybe a mid and a tweeter combo with a custom passive network, so I could keep it a two way, any opinions on that or should I keep it simple?- SAZ-2500D Prototype Is Here !
Can't wait, I'm going to need two of these- Two-way active front stage
I was thinking door if I went bigger, like an 8, but that is going to take a lot of modification to my door. I was thinking maybe two 7s or 6.5s in the door but don't know how that normally works out. I would be kind of concerned with the loss of detail in the upper freq, thats one of the reasons I was originally thinking a 3 way. I wouldn't mind untilizing a horn though, it would have to be a mini though, there isn't much space below my dash on the passenger side. I was hoping to have good staging as well, don't know how possible that is with this type of setup. Although, I have heard that horns really raise the soundstage, or maybe that they had better imaging, I can't remember which one. Would the full range provide the SPL that I am going for as well? - 2001 Chevy Extreme Blazer
