Welcome to the IHoP
Good money in that too, in particular if you look at it from an understanding point of view. I'd like to get more into it from a testing frame/setup/problem solving viewpoint than actual testing (which I also enjoy though so it doesn't really matter). The main person I work for is a big name in the prestress concrete industry and I might be getting into railroad tie work with him. How about the theoretical calculations of why you are testing? If I'm actually testing it I'm fine with doing that, but just crunching numbers, no way in hell.

Welcome to the IHoP
I have zero desire for a job such as that. Stick me in a shop and give me a slightly absurd list of stuff you want built. Rhetorical question: what sort of pay would make you change your mind Good point, but from what I know of that style of work/life it would be an inordinate amount of money, and I wouldn't want to do it. Not that I wouldn't do something like that if I had to/became available just don't think I'd do it for to long, nor be happy with it. Let's see. Get paid a lot, make all the decisions for the whole company, and do whatever else the hell you want to. Sounds like fun to me. I'd be happy with getting paid less, and getting to play in a fabrication shop all day.

Although if things go right I may be getting into materials testing more and more.

Welcome to the IHoP
Truly enjoy my job, like my life, don't play an instrument though but have done a lot of and still dabble in a sport where the mental and concentration game trumps all.

I am such a nerd. Going to rearrange my room so I'm plugging it into Autocad for the layout and dimensions.

Is it really that hard to make money being an honest competent mechanic?

I won't even trust those people to change my oil. They would probably put 5 qts in it when it needs 7.5.

The car is in great shape, runs good, and they are trying to give here a couple thousand dollars in repairs just to make it road worthy again? They can go fuck themselves.

Still holds true, the Sears repair place tried to screw one of my friends over on the parts list when she took her '86 Supra in to them. Their list of things that needed to be changed to make it road worthy included some of these things (plus a couple more I can't remember) Front brake pads and rotors (badly grooved) Rear brakes Power Steering Flush F/R Shocks F/R Struts and a few other bs things I changed the brakes myself, the rotors were just fine, and the pads were not even to the metal sections in them so it couldn't have grooved the rotors if she tried. Buch of crooks I tell ya.

Welcome to the IHoP
I had a guy tell me which cylinder was which on my expy when I had my cyl 6 misfire. He pointed to it in the engine bay. When I got home, I looked down and the ford cyl diagram on the radiator cover showed a completely different cyl. I've only found intelligent parts people at Car Quest and Napa here, everyone else is a retard I think.

Welcome to the IHoP
Since you are in Texas I can safely assume you are referring to the local ladies. I wish...I can literally throw a rock from my mailbox and hit either a goat, chicken, cow, or donkey rather easily...some "neighborhood"... is that a bad thing? I consider it a bad thing if I can hit a goat, chicken, or donkey from my mailbox. Not my favorite creatures.
