Looking for opinions here, what other colors would go well with maple burl veneer besides gloss black. I'm thinking a hot rod red would look good too, stepping out of any traditional style for these.

Lumber dept at rockler called me earlier today, two sheets of 8"x30" maple burl veneer are on their way to me.

What exactly are you trying to measure? Any way you could just do some calculations and get close or are there to many unknowns?

I concur, 7.1 is useless I'd go with a quality 2.1 setup for your budget but if you have to have surround a bigger HTIB might be your best bet without knowing what you actually want. Now do you want this for movies or a party setup? You can use them for either, but if your going to focus on one or another it is a lot easier to tailor the system to fit your needs. Also, what size of room is this going to be in?

Just bout some Maple Burl face grade veneer for the computer speakers, should be quite interesting when they are done.

Theres some good folk down there, good food too. Some of the other aspects aren't as nice though.
