Sealed or ported?
A little bit of everything, but mostly hard rock/metal.

(4) 10" SSA Dcons
Nice. I really like how the subs are installed (two up, two down).

Sealed or ported?
Yes. Most of my systems in the past were sealed, so I don't have much experience with listening to ported. I think there's only been one time that I ran ported, but that was YEARS ago.

Sealed or ported?
I'm trying to decide between the SQ sealed and the SQ ported. They list 1.25 cubes for SPL ported, but I don't want to go that big. If your just worried about output then go SQ ported but if not and you like how sealed sounds then stay sealed. The best way to tell is build a box for both, build a ported SQ box for one sub now and compare it to the sealed box you already have made then make a decision. Just my .02 Yeah, I'll probably just build both and see which one I like better. If anything, it will get me a little more experience in building boxes.

Sealed or ported?
I picked up some BNIB 10" Clarion subs for stupid cheap. In the owners manual they have box sizes listed for SQ sealed (.5 cubes) and SQ ported (.65 cubes). I've never seen SQ ported box recommendations before. Anyways, here's something else that was in the manual. Sealed: Power Handling-Good at all frequencies Linearity-Excellent Dynamic Performance-Excellent Efficiency-Good Subsonic Output-Excellent Midbass Output-Excellent Enclosure Size-Small Ported: Power Handling-Good above tuning frequency Linearity-Good Dynamic Performance-Good Efficiency-Very Good Subsonic Output-Good Midbass Output-Very Good Enclosure Size-Medium Does this mean that these subs are more suited for sealed enclosures?I'm not interested in numbers, but would like to get metered one day just out of curiosity. I'm just wanting a decently loud, good sounding daily driver. My vehicle is our "family truckster", so I can't take up the entire back. I am currently running one of these sealed, and it's a very impressive sub.

Yeah, I'm going to be very anal about my settings this time.

Thinking about trying a DCON.
Well, I ended up pushing my sub too hard and fried one of the tinsel leads. So now I'm rethinking what I want to do. After looking around the SSA store, I think I've decided to go with a DCON with the single 4 ohm coil option. My amp does 300 @ 4 ohms and 600 @ 2 ohms. I plan on running just a single one for now, and adding a second one in a few months (once the weather warms up and I can build a box for them). Sound like a good plan? I've been wanting to try some SSA's for a while now.

layaway or payments?
It wasn't really irresponsible use, just overuse. Irresponsible use would be not making payments or constantly making late payments, neither of which we have ever done.

Choosing a shop.
Yeah, the BBB website said that the shop tried to resolve the problem, but the customer didn't want them to. I've also read several online reviews of the shop, and they have all been good. One even stated that there was a problem and the shop fixed it at no charge.

Choosing a shop.
I've done quite a few installs in the past, but they've always been on older vehicles. I now have a 2008, and I honestly don't trust myself to install an LOC and amp. I contacted two shops that I've done business with in the past, and both quoted me at $65 for the install. Now I need to decide which one to go with. What would be the best way to pick one? I've seen work done by both and they both do a very good job. One of them is a member of the BBB and has an A+ rating. The other is not a member and has one complaint against it in the last 36 months, which was administratively closed (BBB said that the shop made an offer to repair, but the customer did not accept the offer). Should I just go in and talk with them and go with the one that gives me the best "vibe"? It's been years since I've been to either one, but there is one that I'm leaning towards.

layaway or payments?
x2. Ours will finally be paid off this spring, after about 10 years of trying to get it paid off. Never again. Like everyone already said, save and then buy. You'll feel better in the end knowing that the stuff is yours and you don't owe anyone for it.

Which route should I take?
Yeah, maybe I should have just stuck with my original plan and saved my money for some IA's or DC's. I'll go with his recommendation and call it good.

Which route should I take?
Thanks. I found them on his for sale thread, but that was for his original single 4 ohm sub. The reason I went with this sub was because it fell in my budget at the time and he said that it would work well with the power and enclosure that I currently have. Sorry for sounding so dumb. I'm still trying to learn.

Which route should I take?
Edit: Found them, but mine has dual 1 ohm coils. Not sure how much that affects these numbers. Znon [ohm] 4.000 Revc [ohm] 6.700 BL [TM] 20.818 Vas [Liters] 39.325 Cms [uM/N] 254.297 Mms [grams] 113.168 Fi [Hz] 29.226 Fo [Hz] 29.668 Qms 6.778 Qes 0.3260 Qts .3200. SPL [dB] 87.370 xmx[mm] 9.35

Which route should I take?
He didn't give me the T/S parameters. I just asked for recommended enclosure sizes and RMS rating. It was built by ssackett that's on here (and a few other forums).

Which route should I take?
In my signature. The guy who built my sub it said it would work fine in the sealed box I have, but I need to sand the cutout a little. It's just a tad bit too small for the basket to fit down into. I'll definately have enough money for a new box by July (birthday money), so I could get by going sealed until then. I wasn't sure if those were good prices for a custom box or not?

Which route should I take?
I really don't have the time right now to build a box for my sub. I've been in contact with three local shops that I've done business with before, and here are the options they gave me. Two of them have pre-made ported boxes (I know, I know) for $70. One of them can do a custom box for $125 and another one can do one for $150. I have a sealed box that I was going to use for the time being. I could get the pre-fab box within the next month or so. Otherwise I'd probably need to wait until sometime this spring to get one custom built. So, would it just be better to run my sub sealed for now and wait a little longer for a custom box? I didn't think that $125 or $150 was that bad of a price, but I don't have much experience with buying custom boxes.
