PHATBOi's First Box Build
My first official box design. Thanks to BYC for teh sketchup. When I build, 45's will be 2x2's ripped down the middle on a 45 and a 2x2 frame inside the box will give me something to screw the panels to. Sub/port forward into cabin, sealed off from trunk in this area. That's about does it for now. Should be gettin wood this weekend, but might be next. Goals are obviously teh lows. But, I have been doin 12's in the trunk lately and while they kill the lows, it's just not enough output for me. So, I got a bigger sub, bigger amp, and I'm sealing off the trunk. Think it will work?

PHATBOi's First Box Build
$650 Ballin On A Budget Build. Had to add $50 for the two sheets of cabinet ply I'ma pick up at HD hopefully this weekend. Everything else was traded straight up for what I already had. That means it's officially build log time. Pics of gear: RD Alpha/PSI Hybrid 15D2. Hit the motor and basket with my rim cleaner. Current dustcap (not glued down yet). What will replace the current decal. Soundstream RUB1.2500D. I am smitten .

4 18" SSA Zcon's In a 2 door 2000 blazer. update. 159db!
You owe me a demo Justin, lol. I sat in the Blazer with the 2 21's first, then you sat in my car the day Robin delivered the MT/PSI 12, now it's your turn again. Can't wait to catch you at a show. I should have something solid to demo myself soon.

VXX vs Q
Just build in the car. That's how I'm bout to do my Alpha Max 15 I'm gettin. Or trade for a nice 15. You have the advantage of having a large driver and needing a smaller one. Look around on the forums, I'm sure someone has a quality 15 that would trade for your 18. There's always a way, just gotta figure it out. BTW, as much as I am impressed with my VVX-12, I would NEVER trade anything Fi for anything Skar. Two totally different class of subwoofers. Just sayin.

So my inner port wall will go back 19 and then 90 for another 16 to get the 35" of length?
-
First Box Design
Alright, sub is now a RD Alpha Max V1/PSI 15D4 on the 2 APSM-1300's strapped for 2K at 2 ohms. Adjusted for more displacement from sub and brought my tuning up to 31 even. I like it.

Will be built in car in this area. Slot port on drivers side, sub and port firing into cab, sealed off from trunk. This is what I've come up with, but how do I figure the 90 for the length of L port? Thanks in advance.

My sub is bottoming out?
WRONG! Sorry, not trying to talk ish, but this is dead wrong. The reason it is said to set gains with head unit volume at 75% is because your head unit can clip the signal at high volumes before it ever even hits the amps. I personally didn't follow this rule for a long time and paid dearly in abused damaged equipment. I now run my Pioneer at 50 out of 62 for max volume and gained up a little on the amp resulting in a louder and cleaner sound. Can also play lower due to the cleaner signal not heating my coil as much. This is also all on a 600 rms sub with 1500 rms going to it daily with no issues. Like I said, not trying to be a dick, just callin it like I see it. Low volume, PROPER gain is the way to go. And you definitely need an adjustable ssf when tuning and playing that low.

- Skar VVX-12D2 on AB VFL-100.1 (1500 rms) in BHE Prefab
Played with it this morning and brought my ssf up a lil and backed off the gain some (think maybe it was loading off the trunk lid and was helping keep it under control when it was flipped the other way) got the sub back under control thermally. After beating on it for a while full tilt it was a lil warm but not nearly like it was last night and no more stinky FTW. This thing is a BEAST driver's door open. Brings the low end back big time! Pretty **** happy right now. I like it, only have to have the 60 side of the seat down, which I keep down most of the time anyways to help keep the Eagle cool.- Skar VVX-12D2 on AB VFL-100.1 (1500 rms) in BHE Prefab
Decided to flip my box around and ghetto seal it off to see how it sounded. Results are iffy. To my ear sounds like it got louder on higher frequencies but lost some of its low end output, but it sounds clean as hell! Gonna leave it like this for a while and play with it. Before: After:- SA12 VS VVX12 VS LI12
I understand the flat out blind nuthugging can be annoying, but the ones who tell someone not to get a Skar sub just because of who the owner is when it would clearly fit their budget and application are just as bad. As stated previously in the thread, the question at hand is about the subs, not the owner. You can find pretty much any brand cheaper on fleabay or some hack selling them on craigslist out of his garage, what's so different about Skar? But your always giving up that security you get from purchasing from an authorized dealer. It's up to the buyer to decide which choice is right for him. As far as people saying the Skars don't sound good, that is a flat out lie. I just switched from an SA-12 to a VVX-12 and I can tell you the Skar sounds SOOOO much better. Don't get me wrong the SA is a great sub and excelled where it was designed to excell, got loud, but the VVX is a totally different animal. It is much smoother in response and produces the lower end so much cleaner. I actually dropped my ssf down a lil and bumped the gain up some and that's with going from a D4 with the SA (750 rms) to a D2 with the Skar (1500 rms). The Skar is takin it like a champ and soundin great doin it. Say what you will about the owner, but if you buy from a trusted dealer so you know your ass is covered, I don't see what the fuss is all about. By the way, my personall experience, Kevin has been nothing but up front and honest with me. Great guy so far, even went out of his way to personally drop my sub off at my house and demo his new 6 10" VVX 4th order blow thru in the Ford 500 for me. Thanks Kevin. Look forward to doing business with Skar in the future for sure. Thanks. - Skar VVX-12D2 on AB VFL-100.1 (1500 rms) in BHE Prefab
