New BM prototype information
Yeah we asked about all-black, but after seeing them in person we've decided to stick with the current finish. The baskets look SO much better in person than they do in the pictures!

New BM prototype information
This thread will be the official thread for the new BM series prototypes. When I get back to the office tonight I will post up the T/S's for the 10" version. The 12" version is being built now, and I should have T/S's in a few days (along with the woofer hopefully). I'll post again tonight with the T/S's and then I'll continue to keep this thread updated with all information regarding the new and improved BM series. PS: Chad Hicks has our 10" BM proto and is putting it through its paces right now. I'll post up his thoughts/review when he's done.

New Mag proto pics
That's a good question and I'm glad you asked it. The new BM's are going to be MUCH happier in sealed enclosures than the current BM's are. The new BM's are a much more flexible driver than our current BM's. The new BM's won't be able to keep up with a Mag though (even our older Mag's) because, well, they're not a Mag. They're smaller in every way with softer suspensions that yield a very efficient driver that you don't need a lot of power to push.

I'm still working feverishly on the Mag, so don't worry. We are also getting in the new 12" BM soon, and we are VERY excited about it! If it's anything like the 10", it will be the most efficient 12" we've ever had our hands on. And if I can grab a handful of BM 10's or 12's I'm going to run four of them in the new demo vehicle with only 1000 watts.

2nd gen mag
What Ryan said. The major similarity between all previous Mag's vs. the current Mag is the cone...that's it. The surround on the 2'nd gen vs. the 3'rd gen (there are technically only 3 different versions - people on the net have labeled our logo-less run a "version" but there was absulotely nothing different about those vs. the one's that had the logo on them prior to the logo-less version) is slightly different, but not enough to even worry about. The basket is the same (although finished differently) from the 2'nd gen on. The spiders are completely different, the voice coil is a different length and is also finished differently, and the motor is COMPLETELY different. The current generation Mag is a much better performing driver than any of our previous offerings. It is more efficient, drops lower, plays just as tight, etc. The current gen is also 300% more durable than anything we've offered before. All-in-all, our current Mag (3'rd generation) is considerably better than anything we have offered before.

New Sub in the Works
The v2's looked good, and with what Jake has planned for the v3's it should be a stout little driver. I got to see both proto's when we put the BM 10 through some listening tests and they are sexy little suckers.

There is a possibility of dual 4 on the new Mag. The new Mag will be substantially heavier, but it shouldn't be THAT much deeper.

We might have a 12" BM by then also...doubtful of a Mag...but it all depends. If the new Mag is present, well, that will be fun. But to be honest, the new BM's sound quality is so good that I'm considering running multiple BM's over multiple Mag's. But yeah, we could definitely make it into a meet.

Getting a 15" Mag D2
A sealed box isn't necessarily "better" - it depends on what your goals are and which driver you are using. Fortunately for you, Mag's are very flexible drivers so they perform well in either sealed or ported alignments. And if Chad designed a box for you, it's going to be loud.

I would love to get JimJ at the meet for his SQ opinion. Mine is forever tainted because I own a company (because I'll "always say" my product is better, which isn't the case at all...especially if you look up my posts on other forums). Sucks really.

box for the Mag D2
WinISD gives you an idea...and that's it. We have had people plot our woofers against others where the other drivers whip our drivers in the plots...but ours kick their ass in the real world. Numbers are only part of the game, even though the internet industry thinks differently now-a-days. Sad really.

I'm thinking the Virginia area.

As it stands how the new BM's are going to have the new basket. The basket looks a LOT better in person than it does in the pictures. The basket is thick, is finished nicely, and is very thick near the top plate so it transfers heat to the basket once the motor gets hot (and the motor was HOT during testing). We've never gotten a 12-spoke warm, but we got this basket warm - which is a good thing. I'm still making contact with the build house finalizing things, so I'm not sure of the release date yet. Speaking of which, anyone want to meet up for a BM 10" proto party?

The T/S's are considerably different on the new BM's vs the old BM's. The new BM's will have MUCH more bottom-end than the previous models. The neat thing about the new BM's is how much more efficient they are. The 10" is fine with 500 watts for an hour thermally (literally, a constant sine wave for an hour), but I think we're going to stick with the 400 watt rating because the driver gets moving SO FAR with such LITTLE input. The little sucker throws down BIG TIME! We had it in a 1.5 ft^3 sealed box (which is gigantic for it) firing behind a box with two 10's and a back seat folded up and it was still moving the entire rear view mirror in Jake's Civic (not just blurring it - moving it). And that was with 250 watts. The 10" BM proto we have is just awesome - flat out the most efficient speaker we've ever produced while also sounding really really really good at the same time. The mix of bottom end and accuracy up top impressed both me and Jake. I think we'll have a little 10" BM proto party up at Chad Hick's place soon.

BM 10's and a Kx 2500.1
Speaking of deals...you did see the sale we have on the 12's now right?
-
Kicker SX1250.1 alright on a 12" mag?
Not at all. We put single SAZ-1500D's on single Mag 12's quite often with no problems.

Lucas, our current Mag's will be perfect with that amount of power, let alone the new Mag's. We have 3200 watts on four Mag 15's and they laugh at the amplifier. We can bring our amp into protection on command if we want to. So 2400 watts on a pair of 15's is just about perfect! But on topic, the new Mag's are going to be able to handle a little more power but the thing to keep in mind is that the Mag's are still going to be efficient drivers. The Mag's are going to keep doing what they're doing - and that's supplying ample SPL regardless of power input. Efficiency is something that has been forgotten in car audio recently. It seems like people like wasting power, but we like getting something for your power!

Yep, like Jake said, the slugs on the new BM are taller than our current Mag's! The BM's are growing up for this next production run.

Goal of the sub will be in line with our current BM's: efficient subs that sound great and can do serious justice on the mic, but at lower price point than our Mag series.

BM 10's and a Kx 2500.1
^ What Jake said. They are not light weights at all, but you were talking about sending 700+ watts to a sub that's rated at 400 watts. You simply don't need all of that power on a BM to get full potential out of it.

Nope, double slug.

There you go guys!

Yep, if you can, that would be great. I tried calling you earlier but dialed the wrong number. And now people are posting on here faster than I can call!!

Yep, they're getting bigger. Keep in mind this is a prototype picture and the driver is subject to change still. We might keep the basket, and we are keeping and the motor at this point, but a few other cosmetic things are going to change. ...and I would post it but I can't attatch it, the image must be already hosted. I'll reply back with a picture soon.
