Old BM 10's do a 157.2!
if he hasnt said whos car it was in I doubt he will show pics. is it still untouched or has he worked on it a bit? I know the pics I saw of it looked like it needed a bit of work on it It needs some work. What he needs to do first is see if the thing runs or not. On the stereo side of things it needs work too...but not much. The hard part (2" thick MDF dash, solid metal doors, lexan windows, 2-4" thick MDF enclosure, etc, is already done. And with Jake's help, I don't think power is going to be a problem.

Hoss really didn't meter that well oddly enough. The truck's system would take your head off, but it just didn't meter well. His truck felt like it was doing mid 150's but only metered a 148. Haha, now that I think about it, he shook his screwed in and glued in port wall loose after a few months.

The Mag is here.
Yep, I got your email. I'll burn the tracks tomorrow and see if I can give them a listen before I go out of town this weekend. No release or order dates as of yet. We're still ironing out the details for production and the last thing I want to do is lead people on with a random date. PS: You can make the enclosures around 0.8 cubes each and add polyfill to make it 1 cube.

Cool, I'll be looking forward to your tracks. If you can fit 3 cubes, you can fit 3 Mag's...or 6 BM's.

I think he'll be OK with it.

No, it was a walled off car - pure SPL vehicle. They were being burped at 55'ish Hz.

box for old bm's
Sorry about that, you're right, it is the proto specs. I'll post the specs later on tonight for you. Your box builder still needs to build it to 2 cubes tuned to 34 Hz though.

Old BM 10's do a 157.2!
While we were testing the new Mag we decided to play around with some old BM 10's. We put eight 10's in an SPL car that had no alternator, 5 batteries, and a single SAZ 3000D. The first burp was in the 154's but we ended up getting it up to a 157.2 without too much trouble. Keep in mind the batteries had no charger on them for most of the test and when a carger was on them it was a little portable (about 12" by 9") charger. Oh yeah, this was all done on a Term Lab meter.

box for old bm's
Tuning lower will NOT be better for rap. A 34 Hz tune dips down to 20 Hz with zero loss in a car. The T/S's are still on our web page. Go to the bottom of the BM web page and there is a link. Port area should be between 20-24 in^2 per driver.

The Mag is here.
Holy crap! Nice car and a very nice install!! Also that's a nice web page for your own stereo install. But yes, in 1 cube each, 3 Mags will handle 800 watts each. I'm going to do more power testing this weekend after I up the power in my gutted Civic. We'll also do some Termlab testing. We didn't get around to upping the power this past weekend because the HO alt stopped working so we had to swap it out. This time the factory alt went back in because it provides such good output at idle. That, and I don't have a problem with power due to the two Powermaster batteries behind the seats. Anyway, back to the Mag. The driver will handle anything you can throw at it. It plays back music a lot better and more accurate than the current Mag. You can send me an .mp3 of the music you're talking about so I can burn it and give it a listen, but I'm already confident that the Mag will follow it. 1 cube is ideal for 800-1000 watts. If you have 500-800 watts, you can up the enclosure size to 1.2 cubes if you desire. It is not necessary though - the driver is just a tad more efficient in the larger enclosure sizes, but it can't take the power...hence, the above recommendations. I'm recommending sealed because it sounds so damn good in sealed! But, I know people are going to want to port them, and the Mag will work great ported as well. This weekend we'll throw it in a ported enclosure and see what happens on the mic. 1.5 cubes ported to 32 Hz (that is what I'll recommend) will handle 1000 watts with the proper subsonic filter. That is the only ported enclosure we are going to recommend. In retrospect, 1 cube is the only enclosure we are going to recommend. And our warranty only extends to drivers that are put in our recommended enclosures. You can't throw the driver in 1.5 cubes, send it 1500 watts, and wonder what happened - the driver won't take that kind of abuse and we know exactly what kind of power it will take in what enclosures.

Us and us. Just not yet.

The Mag is here.
The driver can take 1k watt thermally in 1 cube sealed, which is why our recommended and specified enclosure will be 1 cube sealed. Not 1.1 or 1.2, but 1 cube sealed. If you absolutely HAVE to shove 1200 watts to a driver, don't choose the new Mag. But be aware that the new Mag is more efficient than the current Mag and doesn't need 1k watt to reach full potential. I wonder how many times it's been stated, no 15's. No 15's. We do have 2 15's left in stock though. The first $475 each gets them!

I don't mean to sound negative, but read the other posts about the Mag. The other posts answer all your questions. There will be no 15 inch version. The older models handle more power. The older models aren't any more durable, but they handle more power (i.e. over 1000 watts RMS). I have sacrificed power handling for superb SQ, and it's worth every penny!!! And this is an upgrade from the current model. PS: as the original post states, only this one pic for now.

15" MAG Box Size
Cool man, I'm glad you like it. I hate to say this because it might make me sound stuck-up, but your response is pretty normal. Enjoy the sub my man!

I suppose I can go ahead and leak that the new Mag's are going to be below $275 direct. ...shipped.

The Mag is here.
Well I've kept you all in suspense long enough. However, I am NOT going to post a side-shot of the Mag because we are changing the basket color and something else. The picture below is NOT of the final driver - the gasket is going to be re-done so it matches up better with the surround. As you can see, there is a gap. The gap will be fixed. So, without typing everything all over again I'm going to paste what I just sent my reps: I got the driver hooked up in 1.2 cubes in the Civic tonight!!! It

The Mag is coming!
The driver is here and we have done preliminary testing on it vs. the current Mag. All I'm going to say before our first full listening test is that it is a lot more efficient than the current mag and plays a lot lower. I'll post more this Saturday or Sunday after we do some hard in-vehicle testing and more in-room measurements and tests.

The Mag is coming!
The pics have been up for a few weeks now. I didn't post them on here because I want more people visiting the web page. PS: The proto may or may not have come a day early. :D Stay tuned to this thread!!! No, I'm not going to post anything yet, but I'll post something tomorrow.

The Mag is coming!
The prototype is in flight right now after being assembled and is scheduled to arrive at our facility tomorrow. The reps and I have known about the arrival for a few days but I'm posting this now to let you all know when the proto is scheduled to arrive. I'll take pictures and get them posted by this weekend. This weekend will also be the initial testing of the new Mag, and it's going to be a tough test! We're going to position the new Mag against the old/current Mag and our testing will be published complete with numbers of the comparission. Anyway, the new Mag proto is coming soon!

eD 13Av.2 Subwoofer
JL was going to sue them - their early "a" basket was too close to JL's patent(s) on their W7 basket. So what happened to the original tooling and labor involved in the early "a" basket? Poof. They had to re-tool a basket to avoid JL's patent(s). Exactly. I don't know either. But I do love rolling up to car audio competitions and seeing other drivers completely whipping arse against W7's. The closest anyone at a competition with W7's had 2 13W7's, two 1000/1's and a host of other JL goodies...they came within 9 dB of Hoss. I.e. Hoss was 9 dB louder...with about 1/4 the cost in equipment. They do have great hype...and great acronyms on their web page. *edit* Here's the Audiojunkies.com link: http://www.audiojunkies.com/blog/305/jl-au...gement-concerns

15" MAG Box Size
Right, that enclosure is just fine for great performance. The other question/post regarded a sealed box size of 3.3 cubes. You can port it in an enclosure that large.

New BM information
An early price estimate hasn't been released yet. When we get the prototype in (should be within this month) we will publish preliminary pricing. Trust me, information will come ASAP!! We won't keep you guys in the dark.
