Field wire runs from alt to ext regulator. Must have pinched it today when I was tightening the belt

Found the problem. Pinched field wire on the big alt. Grounded out. Not sure if the alt is still good or not.

Here's an update... I think my regulater went out.

I'll compete Saturday but won't be around much on Sunday.

Been out of town all week. Just hit Houston so ill play with it a bit tonight. Mostly just waiting on recones.

Not to frame. from the front ?? show me where you grounded your batts ? response was more for Julian than you, but since you asked.. I ran 2/0 from my alternator brackets to the rear. Plus added multiple engine to unibody grounds in front and 6 unibody grounds to my Distro blocks in the rear.

its really only going to see 15.5 during runs.

to go with an xs power VCM but they are sold out. so i went this route.

singer 350A alt internally regulated. regulater removed.. adding the 8g leads both alts unregulated and ready for re install. 1 350A 1 250A. @1200rpms. external reglater mounted with zip ties untill permanent fixture. i havnt ran the knob inside yet either. adjustable from 12-20V relay added to turn on the regualter when the car starts and not to run all the time. success! voltage set at the alternator. picked a couple mew batts for the back also 2x 1400s 1x 800

I may have to go the same route as you. but not sure If I can fit 4 15's your doin good with 2 18s. Maybe just add power or play with tuning.

Finally got the alt working as they should, charging hard as hell at 15.5v. Didn't get to meter and don't expect much change but on music is hold strong!!! I expect to see a jump in my streetbeat score. Did I mention I ordered ny recones to D1? I'll be out of town again next week so not much will happen.
