  1. Great, I'm ordering my BL tomorrow and I'll be having kids by the time it gets here. lol
  2. Hey smokie, if you're gonna ditch your amp, I might be interested. PM if you are curious. Looks like whatever you do will sound pretty bumpin'! Keep up the good work!
  3. Can't wait to see it dude! I'll be box buildin' too on break, so good luck!
  4. That option is not listed... I've heard of it though, but I think it might be standard with the BL? I know you can order it for the Qs...
  5. Now, before anyone tells me to read about the options on the Fi site, I'm just letting everyone know I did that. So know that I got that out there, I'm putting a 15 BL in a '93 Saturn SW2 in 4.35cuft@32Hz, and I was wondering what options would be best for me? I will be using this setup for daily driving and I listen to ALL types of music. Right now, I would be feeding this thing 600 watts, but will definitely upgrade to 1000+ in the future. I'm thinking that I will get the cooling upgrade for sure, but I wasn't sure about the flatwind coils. The reason I say this is because I'll be using 8 gauge speaker wire and was wondering if that will fit in the normal coils without whittling it down some, (and I heard the flatwinds were a little louder, which is always good, although I don't want it to detract from SQ). Thanks for any input, and let me know what other info you might need. Oh, and BTW, the sub is going to be the 2 ohm model and I'll wire it down to 1 ohm.
  6. 2; this and caraudioforum.com. I learned that is was the place to be by posting the same exact thread on both forums and seeing which forum gave me better answers. Long story short; I got 0 responses on caf and 3+ pages on ssa. I think it's pretty obvious where people should go if they want to learn. ssa vs. caf
  7. That box will be fine as long as it is well built, the amp will do until you get something else just make sure your sending your sub clean signals and not clipped ones. Just my .02 and good luck with install and dont forget to post pictures. Pictures on SSA = Haha and the pack of dancing bananas lol. Are you upgrading the amp anytime soon. If not you could build the box a lil bigger and get more outa it, if you have the room. I'd love to, but I won't have the $$$ for some time.
  8. And if it does blow up I'll make sure I have a video of the event lot... but then of course I'll have to get a new amp Thanks for the input everyone.
  9. Made a recent compromise: 4.45cuft. If you must know... the amp is a volfenhag. Ok, it's out and I know it sucks but I was young and easily misled... Either way, manual says it puts out 650 at 1ohm and it's the only choice I got now. Will this amp and box be suitable for the 15 BL? I'm upgrading the amp ASAP, but will it do for now?
  10. I'm currently building an enclosure for 1 Fi BL, (15") and I was wondering, which box will better suit the sub, (both will be tuned to 32Hz). 4cuft 4.9cuft See signature for car and current setup info. Thanks
  11. oh yes, they are !!! Never heared an Xcon? I have, and I'd love to hear 4 15's Xcon in an instal!!!!!!!! Frankly, I'm scared chitless. lol
  12. Alright, I think I know what I'm going to do... I'll keep everybody posted. Thanks.
  13. Wow, all of this on here is crazy! Did I see cracks in the windshield of page 24? OK, I see you mentioned that right below the picture... Sorry... But are those cracks from the subs?
  14. Yeah I think I know what you're talking about... Saw it somewhere on here...
  15. probably won't have enough to run it out the port unless I get some more... Hoping I could just use what I have left... But I'd rather run it through the port than punch holes in my beautiful box lol.
  16. Thanks, will do. I'm curious, should I get a binding post terminal or just run the wires through the box, (which is what I'm doing on my current box).
  17. Understood. I was just wondering if there was another equation, as this one uses the radius: ((8466.4xR^2)/(VbxFb^2))-(1.463xR) R=radius Vb=box volume, (cuft) Fb=tuning frequency

  19. So, since I need close to 6 cubes total, I decided I'd use the whole width of my trunk: 34". I was right on that one, because final external dimensions turned out to be: Height: 20" Width: 34" Length: 20" (external) Height: 17.75" Width: 32.5" Length 18.5" (internal) Port opening: Height: 17.75" Width: 3.4" Total area of opening: 60.35" sq Port length: 34" Port volume: 2.123 cuft Tuning: 31-32Hz Final box volume after sub and port displacement: 4.053cuft Hope she fits, cause that's about it for space... Wow... Thought I had a lot more room for junk in the trunk. PS: Is there an equation for tuning slot ports? I have the equation for circular ports memorized, so I just found out everything for a circular port with the same area.
  20. Thanks. Doing the calculations now. Let you guys know later.
  21. so wait, I need 3-5 cubes AFTER PORT AND SUB DISPLACEMENT? YES Just so I'm sure on this, do I need to design the port for a box that is closer to 6 cubes or I need to design the port for a box that is ~4.2 cubes and build a box that is closer to 6 cubes, (including port)? I really must've got misled on caraudioforum.com... wow.
  22. Although I forgot to mention you're right that they'd be more musical, not to mention that they'd have probably twice the power so they'd be louder...
  23. You mean one 15, right? Cause one 18 has more surface area than 2 twelves. In a perfect world where an 18" had 18" cone diameter and the 12s had 12" diameter, two twelves would have 226.195 square inches and the one 18 would have 254.469 square inches. Now this isn't a perfect world, but the one 18 will still have more cone area. But props on putting out 150 dbs! That's great!

  25. I think I'm just going with one 15 BL, but for the enclosure, I want to do something like these guys: iputon326 Mac N Cheese (sorry to point out your awesome systems you guys) I really like how they've done their boxes and I was thinking the same thing, (slot port to the back of the car, sub mounted on top). External box dimensions: Height: 20" Width: 24" Length:20" Internal, (3/4" MDF with a double layer top) Height: 17.75" Width: 22.5" Length: 18.5" So before displacement, about 4.28 cuft. Does it sound OK?
