  1. Imageshack - 20100222190519.jpg this are the settings. Lets see if this works.
  2. Keep in mind the gain is not a "power knob".....having it turned up less than half way does not mean you are not receiving full power output. It is possible to obtain full power output from an amplifier with the gain turned to it's lowest setting, depending on the input voltage from the source. That said, there are different theories on how to properly set the gain with a DMM. One theory is to use a 0db test tone so that the amplifier doesn't clip the signal. However, this decreases the amount of power output during typical music playback since music is at a level below 0db way more often than it is at 0db. So another theory is to use attenuated test tones; -3db, -6db, -10db. This gives you more power output while playing music at the risk of clipping the peaks of the signal. But before we really get into resetting the gain, it would be more useful to know what enclosure you were using, what your other settings were set at (lowpass filter, highpass or infrasonic filter, bass boost, Q, etc), and what exactly you think is lacking as well as your expectations. We may end up chasing our tail around proper gain setting when the problem is actually somewhere else. When you use a bass boost or EQ where you increase or decrease the level of the signal at a particular frequency, you are not only adjusting the frequency marked on the dial. You will also be increasing or decreasing the level of the frequencies surrounding (both above and below) the center frequency. For example, if you set the EQ center frequency to 40hz, and you turn the db dial to +3db, you are not only increasing 40hz by 3db....you are also increasing the output level of frequencies above and below 40hz (by an amount less than 3db, however). The Q setting changes the "bandwidth", or how wide of a frequency range above and below 40hz you are affecting. The lower the Q, the wider the range of frequencies. The higher the Q, the narrower the range of frequencies. Unfortunately without quite a bit of information it's hard to determine a "proper" setting of the Q....so generally it's best to set it to where ever obtains the best results by ear. I have a ported enclosure 3.5 cu. ft., tuned to 33 hz.. My amp settings are as follow. Infrasonic filter at 30. Parametric Equalizer= "Q" setting is at 1.1, Center frequency is at 35, Boost 0 (turned down). Amp LP FIlter Mode/Slope is at 12db and filter frequency is set at 85hz. I used a 50hz test tone to do my test/tuning. Well what I feel is lacking is that with the gain turned halfway up I'm not getting as much power to the sub therefore not loud enough unless I turn it up more then what I had to before with my W7. My bass EQ switch is in the on position.
  3. I didnt want to start another thread so here i go again since it pertains to this one. Okay after some tweaks with not too much success to my ears. I did the DMM setting/tuning. Well i have a concern that when i did do it i barely reached halfway of the gain on my amp that i got my required voltage reading, which is 44.7v this i got through 2ohms x 1000rms=2000 watts, and the square root of that.. I know the sub can hit harder then on half gain turned up. I have questions about the Q setting. This knob setting goes 0.5- 4.3. Can anyone elaborate on how i can properly set this setting. I read the manual but i feel its pertaining to the 12W7 that i had hooked up to it. Technical words confuse me. If anyone can tell me how to post pics please let me know. I tried but it dont let me.
  4. So the infrasonic is the same as subsonic? These names are confusing to me. Thanks i will set the low pass around there and see how my ears like it! Thanks.
  5. Lookin good. Cant wait for the outcome.
  6. Hello everyone. Had questions about how to tune my amplifier. I dont want to start slammin the BL and have it go out on me. Let me say first I have done my Big 3. Running 1gauge to rear battery. 4 gauge to amps. I have a good idea on how to set my amp gains. I read the HOW-TO here on the forum. What I need is how to tune this knobs on my JL AUDIO amp that I havent a clue what they are. First would be my infrasonic frequency(hz) knob. It goes from 15 to 60HZ. Also there is a on and off switch for that. Second, there is a Parametric EQ setting marked "Q". This setting can be tuned from 0.5-4.3. I belive its the bandwidth control. Anybody know for sure? What should I set my Low Pass Filter to? this is a knob that goes from 40Hz-200Hz? I will be using a remote bass knob for this amp. Anything I forgot please let me know. I listen to mostly rap hiphop and spanish music. My enclosure is built at 3.5 cu. ft. and tuned to 33 hz.. My Fi BL 15 is the Dual 1 ohm wired to 2 ohms. And the amplifier is a JL Audio 1000/1. 1000rms.
  7. LOL the same shxt I heard from a local shop here in Houston. He was like"why not buy a Pro Box?"
  8. Nice. I see your build is coming through. Get rid of that temporary box yet? LOL. Looks real good so far, keep them pics coming!
  9. Damn everything looks great! This is my high, looking at all this audio stuff. :drink40:
  10. Did 115 mph in my 06 Nissan Altima 2.5S. Also whatever my 94 Sedan DeVille limit was, couldnt tell cause my speedometer started flashing !!
  11. I am looking to buy these 20 inch rims and I need to know if these will fit. All i know is that the rims are 20's, they come off an Infiniti. The tire size on them is 245/35/20. I was told I can fit them. But i need some advice. They will be going on my 2006 Nissan Altima. Thanks all. I'm supposed to go look at rims in a little while.
  12. ahh damn well that sucks, AHHHHHHHHH ok,, hmm any headunit choises then lol?. i no nothing about them and what one to choose I see alot of people using Alpine. Which personally is my favorite. My Alpine CDA-9883 was great for that. But I upgraded to double din Alpine DVD player IVA-W205. NO regrets and definitely no complaints!
  13. So now its slammin I suppose?
  14. Nice work. looks like you'll be slammin soon.
  15. yes, except the + and - from the amp go into one set of terminals then + from that to the other set and same with negative, is that wrong? It supposed to be wired as shown. Did you get it to work?
  16. A local here in Houston. I didnt have any luck here on the forum under enclosures so I went local. I seen some pictures of his buil and they look good. Looks promising. Will post pics when the box is done though it wont have sub yet though! please do why didnt you have luck with the builders on here? know that people have other jobs, high demand, and overflowing in boxes, so it may time time to get in contact of them... Yes i figured that, so I didnt see a box being made by the time I get my BL, so I didnt bother with it here anymore. Only for advice. Got any vid of your BL's?

  18. Kool thanks. I think 33 or 35 is good for me. I believe I will go with 33 hertz. Hopefully its okay. My current box for my W7 is tuned to 36 hz.
  19. Thanks. I will once I get the sub in. I will make a thread or whatever when its here.
  20. Stock alty 110 amp. 1 gauge wiring front to back distribution block. 4 gauge to amps. Big three done. 2 Red Top Optimas front and back. JL AUDIO 1000/1 amp for the BL to come. Kenwood amp for highs. Did I miss anything, hopefully I didnt. Polks and Infinity for my highs.
  21. I'm having my enclosure built for an Fi BL 15 that I'm ordering. Im getting the enclosure 3.5 cubic feet. Ported of course. And tuning at 35 hertz. I listen to mostly bass songs. though i do like listening to my spanish too. Bass rap/hip hop music like Young Jeezy, Gucci, Lil Wayne, and so on. Its going in my Altima trunk. Please give me some input, shed some light. Thanks all.
  22. When I had my PDX 1000 I ran 4 gauge with several woofers, Type X. 12W7, 13W7 never had a problem. That amp has 4 of 25 amp fuses and so the recommended fuse should have been 100. Maybe your speaker wires are wired wrong.
  23. What was the solution to this thread just curious???
  24. Did I miss the Carbon Fiber picture somewhere?
