Great amp for running a complete active setup?
Randal Johnson replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalPlease refresh my memory on multichannel amplifiers ... Say if you have a 6 channel amplifier and you only need 4 channels for your front stage and plan to run rears later. This will leave 2 open and unused ports, but the amplifier has those ports powerd up. Will this hurt the amplifier ??? Is there a way to disable unused ports (channels) ??? I've always understood that you should not have any unused active channels running on an amplifier ... Like I said earlier ... I've only used 2 channel amplifiers and only used more if application calls for it at that time of the install ... Thanks in advance ...

Great amp for running a complete active setup?
Randal Johnson replied to altoncustomtech's topic in Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors / ElectricalI've always been more partial to multiple 2 channel amplifier setups, but that seems like a very nice amplifier !!!

Finally !!! Finally !!! Finally !!! Some great weather this weekend !!! ... And no major "Honey Do" things planned !!! Should be able to get my Brakes back together this weekend, Build me a battery bank enclosure for the trunk, and run some cable !!! I am SO ready to get some work done to this car !!! This car is the ONLY plans I have for this weekend !!! Also ... Thinking seriously about taking the entire front cap off and get them ready to go to my dad's shop for body work ... I'm thinking that the radiator supports are connected to the frame and not the front cap like most cars ... may can temp fab something up to make it work ... I would really like to have the front cap and door's body work done and primer'd in before it's first event ...

- Sbn 2014. Who's going?
Not in the cards for me this year ... I've been there for the last 3 years in a row and I'm just geting started on my 49 Ford build ... Maybe next year I'm gonna be lucky just to qualify for World Finals this year ... Finally ... Some Beautiful weather this weekend !!! Hopefully we can get ALOT of work done to the car this weekend ... Best of luck to all that attend and compete at this event !!! May the Force be with you !!! Wish I could go ...- single cab blow through
That seems like a large enclosure setup for your truck ... meaning that it will be close (and quite possibly going past) to your rear end / monster notch / air ride section ... Every one I've built has been simple ported and tuned with as large of a mouth opening as possible ... Most enclosures like the one you just posted usually take up just about all of the room in your bed ... And I would think you need room for compressors / batteries / tanks / and possibley amplifiers ... I'm sure if you give Ram Designs your maximum demensions ... he will be able to design a specific enclosure that will fit your needs ...- single cab blow through
OK ... I had a chance to swing by a friend's house with a truck similar to yours ... So, I broke out the measuring tape !!! No, his truck is not modified like yours, but shouldn't matter from the front of the rear fender wells and the front section of the bed next to the cab ... From the looks of things, there should be no problems with the "cut through" mouth being about 49" wide and somewhere along the lines of 10" high ... Couldn't be exact without taking the interior apart, but it's close. In the bed, there should be plenty of room to put an enclosure large enough for 4 12s or 2 15s ... If you go with 15s, you will have to lay the subs back in a wedge style enclosure but shouldn't make any difference in output if tuned correctly ... So ... The First thing I would do is find a good length of accordian boot to seal up the opening between the cab and bed ... Please remember that when you make your cuts, DO NOT cut out square corners ... Please make all 4 corners rounded shape so the accordian boot will seal correctly ... Then you will have to construct the mouth opening from the bed area through the bed / cab holes and into the cabin area ... And physically mount the mough opening to where it actually "mates up" with the bed for a nice tight seal ... Then on to the enclosure design / build ... You can see here on my enclosure where we used those 2x4s on the back side to mate up with the front baffle for a tight seal between the bed and the cab ... I know your build will be different but connecting the mouth area to the cabin area should be a similar application ... I hope this is what you are looking for ... Randal Memories !!! That was about the time I bought my first Linear Power 5002IQ ... droped a smoothe grand and some change there ... Amplifier plays just as good today as it did the day I bought it new from Wood's Stereo ...- balance/SQ, lossless line voltage?
I take it that you have a Dodge Truck ... Thinking Extended Cab ??? If so ... What year model truck ??? We have a guy on our team with a Dodge Truck possibly similar to yours that competes SQ in MECA ... If I'm not mistaken ... He is running a 2 Way active setup with the midbass drivers in stock location (highly reinforced to prevent vibrations and rattles) and the tweeters up on the A-Pillars ... With a center console sub stage ... I believe his average scores in Modified class is high 70s to low 80s ... don't know for sure ... If you like and he will let me ... I will snap some pics of his install and post them for you ... Now this is not a suggestion on what I think you should do to your truck or anything, but something you might can view and see what someone has done with a truck that is somewhat similar to yours ...- balance/SQ, lossless line voltage?
Me and the "what if" thought was just that guys ... No, no center channel for me ... But I do have plans for that particular location ... No as for the topic on hand ... Yes, I agree with you guys. Start out with a simple 2 way setup and learn from there ... Nothing like testing and tuning along with trial and error ...- balance/SQ, lossless line voltage?
Interesting ... My 49 Ford has a factory Center Channel area that you could almost fit a 8" driver and reinstall the factory Grille ... I have new 8" fullrange driver that I'm not using at the moment. We were considering a sealed 8 in the center channel area for a sub stage location, so it might be something cool to experiment and just see how much stage width and depth I could get out of it ...- Sound systems may prevent deer collisions!

Cool ... We should (hopefully) be starting on my enclosures soon ...- single cab blow through
Yes Sir I do ... Punch 75 ??? Haven't heard that one in a while either ... I remember those Punch 45, 75, and 150s being some bad ass amplifiers ... I remember reading those Car Audio magazine comparisons with the Linear Power 452IQ, 952IQ and the 1502IQ amplifiers ... I also remember buying old school Blues drivers, Cerwin Vega, and those good ole Kicker Comps !!! Cool suspension plans Sir !!! Please post pics of your progress !!! Did you raise up your entire bed floor ??? May take some wild calculations to get a good enclosure in there ...- PSI Subs
Hey guys ... I'm being told that there is a USACI event happening in McComb, Ms on May 24th ... I'm almost positive that it will be a SPL only competition. However, since it is so close to my dad's shop ... I would like to come out, bring the ole 49, and meet up with you guys if you are planning to attend this event ... Please let me know if you guys (or anyone else reading this) are making plans to attend this event !!!- single cab blow through
Next time you go to a MECA competition and meet up wit Steve Stern (owner of MECA) ... Take a look at what he is running in his Van for a Sub Stage ... An origional Trisoberic 10" enclosure- single cab blow through
A pair of Iso-Kit 10s tuned to 24 htz on a Modified LP5002IQ (at the time of that pic) ... Camaro Berlinetta huh ... I had a 1983 Camaro Berlinetta I drove to college ... Then I had a 1985 IROC after that ... Thank You Sir ...- PSI Subs
Yea the owner lives about 45 minutes from my dad's Shop where I work on my 49 Ford. As soon as my Ford's system is up to Par, I plan to meet up with him for demos ... I will give you 3 guess on who the main culprit is on this forum ... And the first 2 doesn't count.- single cab blow through
Dang ... Now that's a Low Rider !!! Never got that low with mine ... But like I said ... We were working on it until We went and got me a new toy. Yea, looks like you are very limited on leg room too ... So building a Cut through would help you out a lot there !!! Perhaps a below the window line wall like mine ... But then again ... ALOT of measuring would need to be done ... - Sbn 2014. Who's going?
