Bass peaks in Audacity question
So I am able to turn the HU level up higher on say the sample song to closer match the power I see using a 0db test tone? Just listen for clipping correct? And thanks for the reply! Yes, you are able to turn it up higher if the song is recorder low. To get a really good idea on the sound of clipping, play some square waves, that will get you accustomed with clipping really fast and you will pick it up in music much easier. Sounds good! Thanks again!

Few port questions...
Anything else? Everything good. I would suggest sub up port back, Under-powering is not bad for sub-woofers, Overpowering however is. What answer in his reply would change it to port up? I'm trying to figure out how all the added info he posted changes the port direction other then spl or daily. School me! You guys tend to want to know all the variables to come to an answer and never explain HOW you come to said conclusion. Can't learn that way. I would have said port back based on the first question because that seems to be a basic rule of thumb in suv's. Which I derive from answers to questions like this. Which means I could be learning the wrong thing. See my point?

Some B&W's film photography
I hear you! B&H is the devil! Makes me wanna sell my kid for gear!lol It applies to any camera. So I am saying go finding a busted or cheap Canon some place and trade it in for a discounted Canon P&S like a G11 or even an S series. Save a ton of cash that way. You can literal send them a $3 Canon film P&S you found at a garage sale and get a G11 for half of what it is brand new. Or what ever model you want. We rock 2 5d's as main bodies and a 40d and a 1d Mark II as backups now. So we wanna get the 5D mark II's as mains and keep the 5d's as backups and off load the rest.

04 xxx 18 enclosure size?
I actually just looked back at an old video I have of just the one. I was in 10 cubes at 27 hz and it killed the lows. Sounded great doing it too. I would rock RE XXX again if I had the electrical to back them. The old ones though. Not the new ones.

Bass peaks in Audacity question
So that is pretty much the same thing as setting with a -db tone then correct? What is a good -db level to use? -6db? Like I said, it sounds clean when I do it. So this answers part of my question. Second half would be: So I am able to turn the HU level up higher on say the sample song to closer match the power I see using a 0db test tone? Just listen for clipping correct? And thanks for the reply!

Some B&W's film photography
Right now, IF I could get another lens, body, flash, or anything, I would probably choose a P&S camera. I love my Canon, but after 5 years or so with it, it is just too damn big, heavy, and just a pain to carry around. I wish I could take a camera with me that I could fit in my pocket. Plus, I know some P&S cameras that shoot GREAT pictures, so don't take yours for granted! I appreciate all of the great words guys! Well if you wanna off load an old camera, check out Canons Loyalty Program. I called and its to much info to type, but you are allowed to trade in any old camera, working or not, for a refurbished Canon. So when I called to verify, they said yes, and you are allowed to do it 3 times under your name. Applies at all Canon camera except the 1 series. So we are trading in 2 old used Canon P&S we picked up at Goodwill for Refurbished 5D Mark II's for a lot less then normal refurb price. They come with a warranty too. Also picking up some G11's I think. So a 5D Mark II refurbished right from Canons Direct store is 2099.00. Trading in our $3 film camera's, we were quoted at $1200.00 for the 5d Mark II. The G11 was like $230 or so. New its $444.00 through B&H. Refurb is around $350.00 when they have them in stock. Check it out by calling them directly and asking about the loyalty program!

Bass peaks in Audacity question
I think you mean -db test tones to closer match music peaks. After my first post I decided to take a drive and go full tilt at +5 on the sub level on this song. I took note of how loud the 50 hz tone was on music. Then I dropped it to 0db level and play a 0db 50hz test tone and the output on the test tone was substantially louder. Obviously it should be, but I wouldn't mind getting a bit closer to that output on music..... safely though.

Bass peaks in Audacity question
So I was bored tonight and I was going through my iTunes looking for songs that could be used as a show off playlist. I was looking through various artists and importing the audio files into Audacity. When I used the plot spectrum feature the absolute highest peak bass note was at -12db so far. That was a song off a bass cd I have. So that has me wondering. When I set my gains I used a 0 db test tone at 50 hz. I have control of the sub output level via the HU. Now I know songs never hit 0 db, so when I'm really wanting to bump I'll turn the level to +5 which really gets some songs hitting hard. One song that bangs hard is Young Jeezy " My Hood" In looking at the peaks I see: 38hz @ -17db 51hz @ -15db 59hz @ -16db But now I am wondering if I can go higher with the level control to maximize the output of power. Now I know with imp rise and all that good jazz most notes aren't going to see full power. But won't turning up the level control ( not the gain knob ) maximize the power at said imp seen at that particular note? Or is the level control just an variant of the gain knob? When at +5 it slams and sounds clean to me. And to be clear, normally I have the sub level at 0 in the HU and I actually started using a gain knob, which came with my new Sundown amp. That is normally about 3 clicks shy of minimum setting. Let me know if I am way off base. A screen shot of what I'm talking about: Also, what effect does clipping in the music have on the sub? I notice a TON of songs are lit up red like Rudolph's nose when I use the show clipping option.

Few Questions About Marine Audio
You can hear subs just fine in Marine use. Its not chest pounding of course as most operate free air from what I have seen and heard. Marine audio tends to be built up a bit more in the weather sealing department. Like waterproof HU's and speakers. Doesn't mean you can use a regular HU or regular equipment. But you take a huge risk of damage from people, waves, splashing, rain, etc.... There is just a lot more moisture on the water then there is on land. So that plays a role in corrosion of stuff. So most marine amps have coated PCB's to prevent corrosion from the moisture and stainless steel caps, etc... where as our car amps don't have that. Personally, I would do it right the first time with proper equipment. Cost will be substantially greater in the long run if stuff starts fail because its operating in an environment its not designed to be in. Hope that helps.

Cool stuff man! I a big fan of B&W but most of my clients prefer color. To see my stuff go to: www.blacktiefoto.com and some recent stuff is on our fan page on FB. BTP Fan Page I just posted 3 teaser shots in B&W of one of our more famous clients Adam Chojnacki. Keep up the good work!

I love film! Digital is much easier to work with, but you just can't beat the look of film! I like the composition of the second shot.

04 xxx 18 enclosure size?
When I got my first one I was running mine in 7.5 cubes after displacement tuned to 27 hz. I'm not sure I would go with a Khaotik enclosure though. Just for the fact that the XXX weighs so much and mounting it to .75" piece of mdf might not hold it up. IDK though. I had mine firing up and porting back with a double baffle and a couple of blocks on the inside for the magnet to rest on when mounted just to be safe. I also used 1/4" thread rods for bracing the box. I tend to overbuild though, but that never hurts.

Workplace Snitching: Are you above it?
Victim? No. The only thing you are a "victim" of is your own actions of willingly and knowingly violating your companies policies. You have no one to blame but yourself. Calling yourself a "victim" attempts to place the blame on someone else. You do realize companies have policies in place for a reason, correct? There are a wide multitude of reasons, ranging from codes of conduct to legal issues. In many cases, if a coworker is aware of certain policy violations but fails to report those actions, they can also be held accountable. Why should someone else put themselves in jeopardy so that you can continue doing something that you both know is wrong and will have repercussions? There can be legal repercussions as well. When this lady that works for me was in high school, she was aware that people at her employer were taking money from the cash drawer but never told anyone. The employer finally caught on and the police investigated. She had charges brought against her as an accessory to the crime since she knew they were doing it but did not report it, even though she never personally took a dime. People need to learn to deal with the consequences of their own actions, rather than blaming others for their own wrong doings and trying to claim to be a "victim" of anything other than their own bad judgment. x2 Before I owned my own business I was in big box store retail, Management to be specific. If one of my employee's intentionally and/or knowingly broke policy, I would fire them on the spot. Anyone who knew of the breach and didn't come forward was either also released or put on a serious warning. While not everyone agrees with every policy, its everyone's duty to follow them. There were a ton of policies I thought were a total joke, yet I still enforced them and followed them. There are at least 10 people in line for any given job, and most would be more than willing to follow every policy to the T, and for less money. Especially in the current economic times. Whether its a friend at work or fellow employee you don't know well, NOBODY is worth losing your job over unless they are going to cover your entire income while you're unemployed. And even then, it will effect future job opportunities. So "snitch".... you're damn right I would and will. I have a family to support. One thing I will do is if its a very minor infraction, I will talk to that person first, warning them if it happens again I will tell the boss. Policies are in place to protect you, the company, and the customer 99.9% of the time. So by breaking policy, you are always directly effecting one of the 3 in a negative way.

Im using the RUB1.1600d. The output board has blown twice on two different amps for no reason that I can find. Tested everything in my system a zillion times with no issues found. Only amp I have ever had an issue with. First time it happened I chalked it up to a lemon that got by, second time though I'm just going with shitty QC. Both blew within 2 weeks of being hooked up and both were brand new. Soundstream is replacing the second one that blew too. So when that gets here its promptly going to get getting posted f/s for cheap! lol

Final made T-Shirts for my Studio
haha.... kinda hoping something else of mine and her would become close friends! Forget the stereo! Used 2 Ring lights and 2 vagabond batteries. Lights at full power, no diffusers. Both just out of frame to get this look. So for people that don't know, here is a comparison of how much light that is: A hid headlight on its best day puts out about 3500 lumens of light. So stare directly into a hid bulb from 3 feet away, and multiple that brightness by roughly 400! Now times that by 2 because we used two strobes at full power! so recap... car hid at 3 feet=3500 lumens at best. Just 1 of my studio flashes at 3 feet= 1.4 million lumens

Sucks to hear about the license issue. I've been happy as can be with my 12's. but now I'm getting used to them, so I am re-coning them to 15's for more output and swapping out the POS Soundstream Rub amp for a Sundown 2000d. That should boost output a bit! I wanted to recone to 18's, but I wouldn't have the space for the box, plus the rear battery and amp. Not without doing some major mods, which I don't wanna do. That's the one thing I hate about Mid size SUV's. The tiny cargo area's.

Thanks everyone! And the female is Nicole. A friend of mine who is my personal model when ever I feel like testing new lighting setups or wanna try shot idea's. Not my old lady, but I have been telling her for the last year we are gonna get married and she should just accept it and break up with her d-bag boyfriend! lol One of the coolest chicks I know. She is also the only female I know that gets into my car and wants the volume turned up! Most bitch and say turn it down it hurts my ears... lol So for some more eye candy... 1. 2. A shot from the beginning of the summer when I was seeing how well I could balance studio strobe with the sun in frame... not easy to over power the sun!
