  1. i'm in. will paypal tomorrow when i have some time.
  2. the radius of the driver is 6". if it were a single 24" driver, then yes, the radius would be 12". first you calculate the area of a single driver of that size. then you take that total and multiply it by the number of drivers used, as i did above.
  3. close, but no cigar 2 12" subs sd=pi*r^2 sd=pi*6^2 sd=3.14*36 sd=113.04 square inches 113.04*2=226.08 square inches total 1 18" sub sd=pi*r^2 sd=3.14*9^2 sd=3.14*81 sd=254.34 square inches sorry about my total i gave earlier; i used diameter where radius was applicable. as for phase cancellation, it happens whether someone "complains about it" or not. the two subs will not be perfectly in phase throughout all cycles at every frequency and as such, there will be *some* phase cancellation. realistically, i guess this is not a very big concern because wavelengths are so long at this point that any minimal phase differences are not a big deal when considering the audibility of said differences. but the cone area still holds true. this is not taking into account the true effective piston area of each sub, but an 18" circle has a larger area than 2 12" circles.
  4. area of a circle=pi*r^2 this actual cone area would be increasing roughly 100 square inches. you would also experience less phase cancellation by going with a single driver rather than two. being louder is very enclosure dependent, but the potential is there
  5. howdy fellow canadian! quite interested in some more reviews. the 18" subs are intriguing, although Vas is a little high for my own personal applications. quite interested!
  6. oh my, those are pretty amps: simple, and black.
  7. all of the DEI products that have been refurbed are supposed to be leaving the factory in equal or better than new performance and appearance. imo, if ikesound is screwing up, you should not let it scare you away from refurbs.
  8. dull mids huh? care to ellaborate on your install? i'm going for quite a bit of presence with these myself, hence them getting 400+wrms. dunno if i'm going to seal or port them yet, if airspace allows, probably ported somewhere's around 75-80hz.....maybe...lol.... 94 Civic. started in the doors on 200 watts. at first i thought maybe it was just poor off-axis response. then we moved it to the kicks and changed to 250 wpc... still disappointed. i greatly preferred my extremis', particularly below 200hz (i have had the extremis' from 70-3.5k and the ssmb8's from 75-400). a lot more prescence and i preferred the tonal quality as well.
  9. i preferred the CVX (pretty much same thing but round) and i really really don't like their 8" mids (rmb's or ss's) as i need something with a lot of prescence and output; they were a little dull for me. nonetheless, i love their amps (their multi-channels even more) and it should be a nice project.
  10. it was not meant as an attack, but does being an admin on an internet forum mean that much to you? it doesn't to me, but you sure seem to like mentioning it. i will grant you that there could have been a smoother transition, but it is not either of our businesses and obviously the USAmps majority stock holders have done well so far; there is no reason to assume that their business model will continue to work well with a dealer network rather than a direct pricing based company. i think you may be confused about the dealer network. the MSRP for a 12XXX is $1600. do you know how much people are paying for them at a dealer? anywhere from $550-$800. most are falling right in the $650 range, which is almost exactly the same price that they were when direct pricing was available. furthermore, shipping could potentially be much less expensive than getting it shipped from Las Vegas, which is important when it's an 80lb sub. but yet you still want to call them "ripoffs". i agree, xmax is not everything; in fact, i have stated this several times on several other forums. but the question remains: how many other subs do you know of that have an xmax of 55mm? i am no fan of them at all; i consider low efficiency, high inductance, and high moving mass are NOT worthy tradeoffs for more linear excursion. but it is still a very rare product. honestly, as a staff member on several other forums, the first thing i try to stress is to not pull the holier than thou when people join my forum. listing "credentials" in an effort to belittle someone whose own credentials you know nothing about is not what i would consider a good way to welcome anyone to your website regardless of who it is. i would guess by your response that my reply will end up getting me banned, which is not really my goal. i am only here to discuss audio. take that as you will.
  11. it's ~1.97" in=cm/2.54 in=5cm/2.54 in=1.9685" never understood the point of the imperial measurement system or SAE. metric is one of the only ones that really makes sense imo. howdy neon, you are not too far away from me.
  12. no, actually i don't like Resonant Engineering very much; i hate the fanboys even more. in fact, i predicted this price rise several months ago on a couple other forums. i must say i find it bothersome that the only person who looks at the situation as a logical business decision gets called a fanboy
  13. sorry, which other subs have 50+ mm of xmax? people are getting way too caught up on the direct pricing. you go to a dealer (dealer's can ship you know) and get pricing that is very close to what the direct pricing was previously. these changes support the dealer network rather than kill it like they were doing before. because people on here consider themselves part of the "internet DIY" crowd, RE is automatically losing a lot of sales? if you are foolish enough to think that internet DIY people who change their favourite sub everyweek are an important niche in a company's success, then i would be most excited at the prospect of some of you starting a business. it worked for JL Audio, didn't it? worked for macintosh, audison, brax, tru, dls, etc.... get real man. take your energy and use it in a business course or something.
