Yes I am. They did not mind when the subs were in 3 ft each, but with the subs in 4 ft each, they will go into protect before full volume until the coils are warm. Brian

Plays music louder than anything I have ever built. Tuned to 34 Hz, so it has not had a problem with anything I have tried so far. Funny, All I have right now is a pair of Kicker DS600's in the dash connected to the headunit. Little suckers are loud, but you can barely hear what song is playing when the subs are all the way up!!! Will try to get some videos this weekend. . . Brian

Third place. Could have had second if I paid for another re-run. We ran with Skip in the driver's seat and lost 1.3 dB vs. the van empty. I thougth for sure we would gain with him in, but did not. My bad for not testing it first, but keeping batteries charged was a problem, so I hated to test right before our run. The comp was indoors, and no running the vehicle except while actually competing. Charging 15 batteries on a 25 amp charger is a SLOW process. With the subs in the bigger box, the 40.1's go into protect if I roll it hard as soon as the bass hits. I have to warm the coils and bring the resistance up just a little before I hit it hard. Not a problem, but I will no longer suggest that 40.1's are good for 1/2 ohm daily. . . Learned a LOT about astro vans at finals. . .I know for a fact I can gain at least 1.5 dB for under $50, and an interchangable port to get my peak up 10+ Hz when competing will also make a BIG difference. My van peaked lower than anything else in street beat that I watched. I am happy - this van will just about rip your head off playing any kind of music. Tuned at 34 Hz, it has no problem getting low and playing music at a constant 156 dB. Time to start working on the mids/tweets. Brian

Something about the AVA though, does not sound good to me over 65 Hz or so. Havoc would be a nice upgrade. . .

Had to run today. Could not see the meter while I was running and forgot to turn up the sub level on the headunit. Ran a 147.3. Guess I will rerun tomorrow! Brian

Actually, I started the build back when finals were in NE and I would not be attending, but I have thrown it together the last two weeks to attend, since they are in Dallas. But, I have an issue that I am going to have to fix, and it will not be tonight. It is not going to bass race near what I hoped. . . It burps great, but does not play music as good. . .

99% of the vehicle out there will meter higher with the windows down. . .

A lot of that is the difference in peak frequency. My suburban - (2) systems, both did 157.7. One at 45 Hz, one at 36 Hz. To the ear, the 36 Hz system KILLED the 45 Hz system.

I should add tonight that my charging system seems to be working out great. . . I charged all the batts overnight with the Powermaster charger, and with the van running (mechman 250 amp alt), voltage held steady at 14.6-14.7 even while I ran sweeps in the 140+ dB range. Love the alt and the battery charger. Charger is awesome if you have a large battery bank! Brian

I know the easiest way to blow a speaker is to under power it, so I ALWAYS keep my system at max volume. yo. . .

Almost ready for this weekend. Ran some good TL numbers tonight - main thing was it peaks right where I wanted. Not going to say much until after this weekend, but it is pretty darn loud for a van I can driver to work everyday! Took pics tonight and left the camera in my shop Will post up a pic of the wall with the subs installed tomorrow. . .

So I played it for the first time last night. . . loudest thing I have ever built by far. Will be testing and getting some numbers tonight.

I forgot to add - Last night I ran a piece of 1/0 across the pos/neg copper bars on the back row of batteries. Talk about scaring the crap out of me. . . .nice cracking sound and bright arc. . .

They will power up now! Just need to run speaker wire and install subs :D

Normally, a single dimension of 2", 3", 4", 6", etc. means a round port. If they are aeros, should be fine. If not, I would cut the holes out larger and replace them with aeros that are 1" longer than the ports you have in there now. But the best solution is to try it as is right now and go from there. . . At 4 to 4.5 ft of net volume, you need 55-70 sq inches of port. The length will be determined by the port dimensions and tuning frequency. Hard to determine a good port without knowning the max dimensions of the box.

Should not be a problem with that driver and amp combo.

Need to know how much power you plan to run to it and where you plan to tune it. . . 10 ft is a big box that will more than likely mechanically limit the power handling. If space is not a problem, the height x width (area) of the port should be 16 sqin per NET cubic foot of enclosure volume. If you have that much room, order another BL 18 Brian
