My GZ/RLP box
I've been told that placing the sub closer to the port opening can cause some problems with pressure not being built up in the box (for instance in a wall with multiple subs, the subs closer to the port will unload easier than those further away). Thus, placing the sub as far away from the port as possible will allow the waves to fully develop before exiting through the port. At least this is what i have told and seen. If you look at most SPL cars, if they have the space they will place the subs as far from the port end(s) as possible (CRX box is one example). I know pretty much crap about SPL, but you would need a rather large enclosure for the wave to fully develop within the enclosure wouldn't you? I know soundwave lengths change with many variables in mind, but even a 100Hz note would be between 10-12 feet in length. Therefore, you could deduce that the actual waveform would never fully develop inside the enclosure. Wasn't this part of the rationale behind the 1/4 wave theory that was big a year or two ago?

No blackouts yet, but boy does it piss me off. These guys are oldschool too.. Too hardheaded and old to thing it can damage them physically. I think they may even thrive on it. I hate it. It's one thing to sniff some Alcohol top lube or some high octane leaded fuel, but even that is only a short while in an open air environment.

That's me everyday. For some reason, the morons I work with can't seem to figure out what the exhaust hoses are for. They just start the cars and let them run in the shop with the doors closed and carbon monoxide filling the air. Man, I don't know sometimes. People.

Wedding Crashers was not bad. Not all that good, but it's tough for me to find a movie that is. I prefer action and a great storyline over drama, comedy, etc. Can't wait to see Transporter 2. Next on my wishlist is Underworld sequel. Kate Beckinsale is SO HOT!

This damn warm, cold, warm, cold weather is killing me. I felt awesome Saturday night, although it might have been alcohol induced, and now I feel like I ran into a brick wall and my head is still being pounded into it. Eff this weather and this shithole of a town.

I think it will look better with a lighter stain or just some clear lacquer. That's the ticket.

Hmm. New idea for the beater. Get a preamp with MVC and just use the Omnifi. No need for a headunit. I like this idea. Get one with an AUX in and can add whatever I want later. Hmm. Time to sell the Eclipse me thinks.

Hope Amanda comes out okay and everything goes well. I appreciate the offer to visit man. That's a really awesome gesture. I was one number away from Powerball the other day, and I had some awesome ideas running through my head. One would be a large SSaudio get-together. That would be sweet.

Frequency Response
Don't forget about tranfer function. I don't know how your Explorer will react, but my buddy's camaro has a black hole starting about 48Hz unless you have the sub up front. There was nothing I could do in that vehicle other than an up front placement to get any useful output out of the sub system above 50Hz. Some vehicles just have major cancellation issues that you will have to address at installation time. OF course, many applications will vary. IMO, you shouldn't be using the sub above 50Hz anyways. Midbass is the key here. Once you have a strong midbass foundation, you'll never have the desire to run the sub any higher.

Got a letter from the IBEW JATC local 153 today. I have been qualified for an asessment test for an apprenticeship. What to do. Great opportunity, although I have to go through all the apprenticeship BS and schooling again. I also am really looking forward to moving finally, but of course can't do that if I get this thing. Damn. What to do???...
