IXL-18(s) in car?
250 is indeed large, but if you are pumping 2kw into them you don't want any whistling through it. 120 would probably generate too much noise. How much power do you have on tap? If you want to go smaller, do 175 sq. inches 14 inches long. Total volume is is about 1.4 cubes, which leaves the subs with 22.5 cubes to work in. Mach speed is still high at around 22m/sec, but you may not notice it. Let us know what you do...

An IB setup would provide you with a more natural sounding mid-bass. Doing in my way may end up with the mid-bass sounding slightly peaky, but not totally uncontrollable. You can/should watch the output down low if using either configuration since the driver will unload below Fs. Best, Mark

Like Sean suggested, Infinite Baffle would be best, but if you want to test a bit, make your enclosure up with a completely open back. Stuff the box loosely with some stuffing and try it. You should achieve some decent mid-bass with that. Best, Mark

New MJ-18's
I *think* Rudy did a 143 with a pair of MJ's sealed and 2kw. If this is loud enough, then great.

IXL-18(s) in car?
250 sq. inches of port 26.5" long will put you at 30Hz tuning. Port takes up almost 4 cubes, so you are left with around 20 cubes. I hope you like your low end cuz you're going to get a lot of it... Best, Mark

New MJ-18's
Jeremiah is right, the MJ is not a volume monster. Beyond 1kw they wouldn't put out much more, so don't invest in something that goes beyond that. Best, Mark

What is your budget?- New Home Audio Speaker Site and Forum
Just thought I'd mention a new kid on the block for home audio loudspeakers and projects. Mike, another DIYer who likes to do things himself decided to take things public and help spread the (free) word about how much better we can make our systems sound. Take a moment out to check his site - http://speakerhobby.com/index.htm He has a forum as well where you guys can share speaker projects of any design using any brand. Cool stuff! Best, Mark- o-scoping amps can be dangerous...
Hope it works out for you.- o-scoping amps can be dangerous...
I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense. What make of amp is it? If that is indeed the case, that amp design should never have left the beta stage.- Mach 5 in Oz

So friends down under can now take advantage of decent pricing on Mach 5 products from Affordable Drivers. They have received their stock and are now shipping: http://www.affordabledrivers.com.au Best, Mark- Dennis' Mach 5 Bitch Van Build Log
So the second one was completed and we managed to get both of them carpeted. We threw them into Dennis' van and found things to be a bit tight unfortunately, especially at the rear. I don't have pics of them in the van yet though...- Delievered (LOTS of pics)
It almost makes me want to just drive down there with a van and sell them out of the back..- Delievered (LOTS of pics)
Replied- Time for some fun
Enjoyed a few Light Wheat beers from there last night. Only place I buy from now. Wasted, where are you from? We only get the Stout here unfortunately.- Dennis' Mach 5 Bitch Van Build Log
Hoping to have it done by this weekend.- SPL-15's, IXL's Finally In!!
As of now, the IXL line are dual 2 Ohm configurations. This includes the IXL-18. And yes, the logo is on the dust cap. Best, Mark- Time for some fun
You owe me a case of beer from Paddock Wood now.- Time for some fun
Ok, that depth should pretty much do it. (internal) dimensions - 23"W x 28"D x 72"H = 26.8 cubes Sub area = 24 cubes tuned to 18Hz Port size - 5" x 23" x 33" long = 2.2 cubes Add R8 fibreglass on 3 sides Here's things with 1000 watts of power: Excursion SPL Port velocity- Time for some fun
Then you need 24 cubes (plus space for port) in order to achieve that. If you can get it, tune it to 18Hz. - WOOT for mach 5.
