Time for some fun
Gotta go bigger then. 22 cubes + Trust me, that will have plenty of output for you. Remember, you're dealing with four 18's with room gain...

Ok, Based on the above dimensions, I would suggest the following: - 16.3 cubes gross - Port tuning to 21Hz - Port size is 4.5" x 23" x 38" long; port it at the top of the cabinet rear - Add R8 fibreglass to back and sides You're good to go. Now GIMME MY MONEY!

Based on your dimensions (23" x 17" x 72") you have about 16.3 cubes to work with per side. Does this sound about right? Give me a couple of days to determine the final TS parameters of the drivers and then we can do some modeling.

Based on your diagram, what are your dimensions for the sub boxes? What is your effective box volume?

Forgive me, I didn't read that part. Carry on...

Forget the MDF unless you plan to do some cabinet finishing. If its sheer cabinet strength you're after, go with ply - Fir or something else.

MAW-15 Ported
You can try it, but on a personal note, I would go slightly bigger - say 2.5 cubes. Best, Mark

SPL-15's, IXL's Finally In!!
Whew! What a wait. Good news is I received a call from my shipper this morning telling me she has a crap-load of boxes with my name on it. It will be a couple of days before they land in my hands. Those of you who signed up for the SPL-15 pre-order, please shoot me a PM so I can verify my records. Best, Mark

The baffle is done up along with the port. I will only add the one window brace you see here. Just waiting for the glue to dry before adding it.

Tomorrow I will work on bracing, port and baffle. I'll throw up more pictures tomorrow on the progress.

Phase 2 With the plywood sheets glued, its cutting and assembling time. What you see here is one half of the build. There will be two of these boxes that will slide into Dennis' van. The board leaning up against the box is the baffle. The box is tapered (difficult to see) - with the top is shallower than the bottom. A shot of the port hole. These cabinets will be tuned to 36Hz. You can see some of Dennis' IXL's in the background.

If it is volume you are after, you can use the same size box as per the recommendation but tune high - 36Hz or so. The recommended tuning of 28Hz is geared more for sound quality installs where folks wish to hear the sub through a majority of the passband with some augmentation by the port at lower frequencies. Best, Mark

True, scope out Sundown to see what they have.

I agree. I had a line on one that sounded quite smooth. Unfortunately, things fell through so I'm back at square one...

Hi there, We are still considering this possibility. Nope. Sorry... The IXL line is being filled out at this time. Pricing will be conservative compared with other brands - just like the MAW series. They are still in transit. That's about all the info I have on them at this time. I believe I have one unit left - a BASH300. Its yours for $125 shipped if you want it. Best, Mark

Nope. It will get pretty darn loud for you if you want though. Regarding amps, I cannot make many direct recommendations other than what I read from others. Some surprises that come to mind are Crunch and Autotek. Zapco perhaps? I guess it all depends on what you are willing to pay for, but look for something that can deliver up to 1100 watts into a 1 Ohm load. Best, Mark

Phase 1 Gluing and screwing the plywood together. The sides and rear baffle will be 1 1/4" thick; the front baffle will be 2". Despite the fact there are screws holding the two pieces together, they get a little help from yard implements. It will be a few days before I get enough glued together to begin Phase 2.
