  1. Hahaha! You crack me up!
  2. I have protos of them now and will be running my usual barrage of tests in the coming days/weeks. I'll have more info at that point... Thanks for inquiring.
  3. Ah, man, you guys are a tough crowd.
  4. Its a bit early to tell at the moment...
  5. Yeah, its real close. I just need to firm up pricing and change cosmetics a bit. We are looking at the most aggressive driver to come from Mach 5 - both in price and performance. This unit will be a combo of high SPL capabilities with sound quality decent enough for daily driving. For those who want it for daily there will be a nice aluminum basket mounting ring for the sex appeal. For those who want it for shear output, a rubber wrap-around gasket will also be included. Due to the high pricing of this unit (sorry to break the under $200 price barrier) and get the full commitment from those who are interested, a pre-order will be taking place in the coming days. More on this later. Best, Mark
  6. Thank goodness! I was ready to send you a new one because of it...
  7. Well well. Why is it that when I'm away for a couple of days all the fun breaks out?! Thanks for moderating guys - I appreciate it. The bubble on the sticker is my fault - since I personally inspect each unit I apply the stickers by hand. It looks like that one didn't go on so well. Forgive my Ryan?
  8. Just for you, I'll attach an extra pair of connectors on the basket and you can connect wires to them. Then you can pretend its a dual coil sub...
  9. Ok, I understand now - thanks.
  10. Just so I'm following you, what tuning are you referring to here?
  11. So I guess it would make sense to have a flabby box then if that is the intent... Forgive the questions as I have never been involved with/doing SPL stuff..
  12. Dunno, but mine is at ~32Hz. I found this out through trial and error...
  13. No need for physics, just some experience. Ok, so just to get things straight, its not the output of the port you are interested in but the resonant frequency of the box itself, correct?
  14. The bolded part is interesting. Kent, why would you want to tune below the peak frequency? To me, it would make sense to set your tuning *at* the peak your car resonates at. This way, not only are you getting maximum output from your port, you are also getting added volume from a resonating car. Correct me if I'm wrong here...
  15. Good. Feedback on this topic is appreciated.
  16. I'd be curious how they sound when you connect your tweeter. I've been trying to match them up with a partner...
  17. Don't you know it! It was 32*C outside and she was sweating bullets, while Gio and I were inside the air conditioned house sucking on beers and watching the walls move... Now that's a dedicated wife!
  18. Do you have an xover on them or are they wide open?
  19. Hmm... I figured you would be louder than that Puggs. Here's a vid: IXL
  20. I agree, 600 per driver would definitely be too much. But now that I know what it is you are doing, I cannot provide warranty.
  21. Here is the output of the IXL in a 260 litre bass reflex enclosure tuned to 17Hz. The green line is the driver, the yellow is the port. Measurements are nearfield - mic was placed one inch from driver and port. The port measurement has a 24db/oct xover applied at 100Hz for clarity.
  22. Published Le numbers seem to be a bit out-of-bounds for the design. I will be verifiying this tomorrow using a rather expensive LCR device to get a better reading. I'll post the results here. The X readings are the same as the prototype. Best, Mark
  23. So after randomly selecting units and testing them (after a good burn-in period) here are the published specs for the new IXL-18.4. You may find them better than the original(s). Even I am pleasantly surprised: IXL-18.4 Thiele-Small parameters: Fs = 17.7 Hz Re = 3.4 ohms[dc] Le = 6.09 mH Qt = 0.37 Qes = 0.39 Qms = 5.59 Mms = 434.34 grams Rms = 8.69 kg/s Cms = 0.184 mm/N Vas = 274.1 liters Sd= 1029.22 cm^2 Bl = 20.51 Tm Lp(2.83V/1m) = 91.60 dB If I have enough time this weekend, I'll do some testing and post some graphs. Best, Mark EDIT: Le has been changed to a more accurate number. This measurement was taken using a 100Hz test frequency.
