  1. This is a tough call. Most PA subs are much more efficient (98+db) and are designed to deliver frequencies in the 32-45Hz range, which is the 'sub' range for PA. If your friend is doing hip hop this means serious boom in the upper low bass range. If it were me I would build a box where the sub is a bit exaggerated in this region to make sure he gets the boom he needs without relying on room boundaries. He can always tone things down if need be. Since it is PA, the boxes will take more pounding than a standard box, so you want to make sure to reinforce the magnet structure. I think they could work - for smaller venues.. Best, Mark
  2. Sorry, I don't have any pictures other than what is on the site. More will be up as soon as they get in. Best, Mark
  3. It was actually more of a potential option rather than a change. We'll see how things go - perhaps a 2 Ohm verison will be made available. Sorry for the confusion.. m
  4. Why not? You might impress him so much he will want you to go even bigger.
  5. An option would be to go with two 10" ports rather than three 8" ones. 10's will move the velocity of the ports down in frequency a bit. Plus it will be symmetrical provided you go with one cavity. Having 4 MJ's will take up about a cube. I calculated two 10" ports at ~0.9 cubes. So you will be working with ~18.1 cubes total. Line the back and two sides of the box with R20 fibreglass any you will add ~10% to the volume of the box. You should be good to go. POST PICS!!!
  6. They are on the way...
  7. The perceived area needed for IB is 10 times that of VAS, but this number is not cast in stone. If you cannot achieve at least 4 times VAS what you will end up with is a very large sealed (or leaky) box. Best, Mark
  8. HI Flip, what size ports do you have?
  9. It certainly wouldn't give you the volumes that ported boxes do, that's for sure...
  10. I would aim 35-36Hz if you are going with 20 cubes. It will give you that extra authority in the 40Hz range that everyone seems to love...
  11. I doubt it would get louder in a sealed box over what you currently have. Killa, you might want to tune a bit lower if you find it sounding boomy, or like Denim says, add some fibreglass.
  12. Agreed. 4 15's would be a better choice.
  13. Hang in there. I'm sure Denim will have things fixed up so you can snag them from him. Best, Mark
  14. If you go with 5 cubes, then don't worry about the space taken up by the tube or driver. SSA includes shipping in the price so that's the difference. Best, Mark
  15. Hi there, and welcome. Sounds like an interesting plan. The 4.5 cube recommendation is good for music lovers - hits low enough and doesn't sound muddy doing it. Add a couple of batts of insulation (R20) to absorb a bit of backwave and you will be rocking. The power you plan to apply to them is fine. Cancellation? Doubt it. Best, Mark
  16. Check out what's available in the used section. I have noticed that folks sell quality stuff here, so you will get good value for your $150. Best, Mark
  17. When are you coming to Winnipeg so I can get you freakishly drunk and take pictures of your sorry ass passed out on my couch with one of my wife's homely girlfriends?
  18. If you're doing med school you will have next to 0 time for time in front of a home theatre. IMO do the car first - you still need to get to 'point b'...
  19. An option might be to look at used equipment. You might be able to squeeze everything in then.
  20. Don't blame you. I went to school in Wilcox, so I know...
  21. Does Regina water still suck?
  22. Judging by your posts I've read over time and now knowing your age, I can safely assume you are well-read and will go far in whatever it is you end up doing. I guess the only question I have for you is how did you end up with the bloaks here on SSA?
  23. sub.
  24. Really good performance.
  25. I have a prototype coming. Looks interesting but will need a bit of work.
