  1. He probably wouldn't need impedance compensation on the tweeter since most units already have low inductance to begin with. Gio and I found the MLI to sound better with a higher order xover (18db pumped through the DCX) but we were listening to drivers straight out of the box. I'm sure exercising and work-in would result in a much more dynamic sound than what we were hearing. Aaron, exercise the cones of the drivers before you start playing with them.
  2. I've always wanted to try the Morels. As I understand it they were a good low-cost alternative to the Dynaudio's.
  3. I *think* it was the Q1R he chose...
  4. They aren't that bad actually. Gio and I are putting something together with a 1" HiVi dome and a pair of MLI's. We'll be working on the xover this weekend. I can't recall which model he chose to use tho...
  5. Yeah, 4-5 times the VAS of the driver for a "proper" IB. If you have 20 cubes you can do a Bass Reflex (EBS) and really rattle your brain. Best, Mark
  6. *** Update *** Deadline for Pre-Order: April 6, 2007 Best, Mark
  7. Since this driver was designed more for large vented and IB setups, going sealed would require a big honkin box. 5 cubes sealed would be a bare minimum (with heavy stuffing), and 7 cubes would make it "happy". You will get very good extension this way. Not sure about SPL competitions, but I assume that you would probably want a peaky response from your sub at a certain frequency. Correct me if I'm wrong here... If so, then aim for a Qtc of 1 (~3 cubes). This should give you a nice lump at ~60Hz. Best, Mark
  8. ~31lbs. My weigh scale isn't the most accurate so use this number as an estimate. Best, Mark
  9. Meant to ask the drivers impendence. Example: 4ohm SVC. Ah. The driver will have a nominal 4 Ohm impedance; Xmech is on the order of 26mm. Probably another week.
  10. Not sure I'm following you when you say '4 or 2 Ohms'....
  11. How does it sound?
  12. It looks almost like particle board on the inside, but I'm not certain. The depth of the port doesn't look like it wraps around the back, so the tuning is quite high - ~40-45Hz. If you decide to purchase this and use a MAW-12, you will end up with a pretty big peak at ~43Hz. That will certainly give you "authority" but could also provide you with sheer boom and muddy sound. You can tailor things a bit to produce a more flat response if you don't like the quality first off. You can add something that will take up space within the box (a brick for example) - the result would be a higher roll-off, like about 50Hz or so. Certainly not the best situation, but it will get you into the ballpark anyway... Best, Mark
  13. Those measurements are actually quite close to the suggested. If you can find out what the tuning of the box is that would be perfect. Ask them to verify the width of the port (is it 1" or 1.5") and the depth of it, we can determine what it is tuned to. Best, Mark
  14. It seems that your ad goes to a dead link. Do you know just how much bigger that box was?
  15. The Le reading I received from the OEM is 3.00mH; no shorting ring.
  16. Yeah, its a single coil config. The '.4' may turn into a '.2' for a 2 Ohm config. Hang tight, we'll see what happens. Best, Mark
  17. Ah, crap, I knew I forgot something... 800 watts RMS. Just concentrate on getting that new eD sub - I really wanna see it!
  18. Hi Everyone, Its taken quite awhile to get this finished, but we are finally there. The IXL-18.4 is now ready for production and I am offering folks a decent introductory price for those of you who want it now. Here are the specs of the driver and a few shots: Fs = 15.4Hz Re = 3.2Ohm Qms = 4.87 Qes = 0.39 Qts = 0.36 Vas = 556L Sd = 1029.2cm BL = 15.1 Mms = 228g Cms = 0.37mm SPL = 89.2 Xmax = 22mm Pre-Order Information This is NOT your typical 'pre-order' process in that 100% paid-in-full funds are being requested. Instead, I am requesting a $20USD non refundable "commitment" deposit (per driver) from those of you who wish to get in on the ground level. In return, you will save $25 off the selling price PER UNIT. The introductory cost of the IXL-18.4 is $155.00USD each, plus a flat rate shipping charge of $20.00 per unit within North America. So, landed at your door for $175.00 each. For pre-order deposits I am requesting folks either mail me their funds or use PayPal - sorry, no credit card transactions. My PayPal account is [email protected]. Those who have committed to the pre-order will be placed on an email list and will be informed of the production progress at regular intervals. *** Please Note *** This pre-order could take upwards of three (3) months before you receive your product. This is simply due to production times, shipping, etc. Please be aware of this before you commit to this purchase. Best regards, Mark
  19. Its all in the VAS. If you can stand a large box in your room, wait for the IXL, if not, the MAW will deliver nicely in a smaller box... m
  20. Yeah, that's the idea. Not sure if it will happen with this round, but it will happen. EBS = poop for music. Great for HT though. Yeah, I hear you. A person could do a sealed config and get some nice clean bass from it tho. Best, Mark

Madisound Ok, dumb question on my part. What brand are they? Fostex?
  22. Xmax on this unit is 22mm one way - a bit short of my target but sufficient to satisfy most folks out there. I should have pricing locked down in a couple of days. A pre-order would help to determine just how many need to be ordered. The pre-order method will be just like the MJ-18 4 Ohm we did awhile back - a small deposit ($20) to "commit" to the order and the balance due upon delivery. Best, Mark
  23. *** Update *** Yes. Just got the confirmed numbers. Here you go, along with a low-res shot. It will be called IXL-18.4: Fs = 15.4Hz Re = 3.2Ohm Qms = 4.87 Qes = 0.39 Qts = 0.36 Vas = 556L Sd = 1029.2cm BL = 15.1 Mms = 228g Cms = 0.37mm SPL = 89.2 There will also be smaller models using the same bottomless motor. Best, Mark

That's different. Where did you get them?
