anyone seen this amp???
some class D amps are full range. I think the new Alpine ODR or whatever is class D and full range.

anyone seen this amp???
never heard of that company, but $165 is kinda cheap for a 100X4 amp.

should i go active or bigger 4channel?
doesn't some guy on here sell zapco amps too ... ?

SPLENDURO
stuff seems to come and go in cycles. But one thing is for sure, if you don't have competitors, soundoff org's will die out.

What competition assocation do you prefer???
I compete in MECA SQ, I like their laid back attitude ... and they tend to be much more helpful and friendly. I am the current modified points champion, I am using this as an amatuer season ... learning to tune by ear.

I need help picking a car!
decent paying jobs are always hard to come by unless you know someone .... seems like everyone else wants them too

loud button bad???
for a comp system, the 1000.4 is one of the best amps I have come accross. I have always wanted a zapco amp so I guess I'm just gonna bite the bullet and get one (sometime). Isn't there a guy on here that sells them ? P.S. There was a guy selling one on ebay with NO rca adapters .... makes it useless and probably stolen.

OMG that caraudio or carstereo or whatever was terrible. 1000's of members and maybe a handful that had anything intelligent to say.

loud button bad???
that's also why I want a zapco 1000.4 for a mid tweet amp for my "competition" car. What I am competing with now was meant as a daily driver.

loud button bad???
when it comes to alt whine ... you generally have to do whatever works because nobody wants to listen to a system with noise like that - and NO customer will be satisfied with an install that is noisy. As far as clipping goes, I would say EVERY system I have heard clips at some point, some are just more audible than others. Think about this, CD's have a crest facor (absolute max to avg max) of like 30 dB, that's a power factor of 1000. So if you're midrange or tweeter is playing just 1 watt peak, it will need 1000 watts peak to not clip on better recorded CD's. PLEASE NOTE THE SPEKERS I AM TALKING ABOUT ...... NOT large subs - small mids and tweets. It is not uncommon in an SQ competition vehicle to have an overlap of 2:1 or 3:1 past what the oscilliscope reads for no clipping at max volume to still have some usable output. So pretty much all car stereos clip at reasonable to loud volumes. It is also not uncommon in competition to see mid and tweets powered by a 150 W/ch X4 amp or bigger, for the above stated reasons.

flip down
I have the 9853, there is not a straight RCA input ... I think you have to go thru some cable or adapter box into the alpine bus to input audio. The easiest way to do this is to use a DVD player headunit to start with.

Four or five 8's?
I have noticed in the SPL scene ..... you gotta be hittin 150+ to even be competitive these days

this forum seems pretty slow too ...... and mostly bass oriented

Audison amps...
Jim ... most of these guys are boomers ..... anything less than 1000 watts RMS is too low to even show up on their radar. I personally like to over-power in an SQ setup for headroom ... cars are noisy environments.
-
loud button bad???
more than likely got started because someone moved thrir RCA's away from the power wires and the noise went away .... unbeknownst to them, what they REALLY did was move the RCA away from a noisy spot on the chassis.

help with crossovers
all I can say is good luck on tuning ... the phase problems from multiple drivers in different locations is gonna be awful, and I won't even get into the comb filtering problems - even if you had a sperate EQ channel for EACH mid/tweet combo. For volume, you could use a JBL 2118H and a good horn driver. The 2118 is an 8" midbass with an eff of like 98 dB, it was designed to play with horns.

1kw+ amp resistance with a poll!
most of the class D amps are rated for low impedances ... that's where they make their power. Their 4 ohm power specs are often very UNimpressive.

McIntosh
there are lots of HU's in the $1500+ range, just that most are not sold in the US ..... we're too cheap to buy that kinda stuff.

haha found some T/S for the jackhammer
I think it was only meant to be a wow factor display

New to SPL
wow ... I never thought I would ever heaar anyone say that. Most of the forums are chocked with SPL info and the contests I go to - the SPL cars generally outnumber the SQ cars like 5 to 1 or more.

I'm more of an SQ guy but I do know that their is a BUNCH of stuff that effect overall SPL. The biggest two are matching the box specs to the speaker specs and the other is finding and "burping" at your car's resonant freq.

Need serious help with frequency cutoffs
well, just see how it works ... you may need an overlap or underlap. One thing is for sure, there is NO magic formula - every car and set of components will have to be set up so it sounds best. Do you have access to an RTA ?
-
Need serious help with frequency cutoffs
sounds good ... you will have to hook up and see - just be careful of so much overlap between sub and midbass. why is the low end on the 6" midbass just a little better than the 4" midrange ? I guess that's why I am gonna use a 8" midbass for my next "project"
