Nightshade v.2 Teaser Picture
Yes, that is the 8-layer round version of the Monster coil -- 56mm length.
-
Nightshade v.2 Teaser Picture
The 8-layer round wire for the monster is what you mean - it was only 56mm tall, though - the NS v.2 coil is 71mm tall.

Nightshade v.2 Teaser Picture
Correct -- the magnets are shorter. With other changes to the design the motor strength is still higher. It is not so simple as to change the basket design... tooling for baskets is extremely expensive !
-
Nightshade v.2 Teaser Picture
The v.2 Nightshade has more excursion, more power handling, higher motor strength, etc compared to the v.1 model -- it is improved in every way The flat back and top plate like the SA series and Monster series would make the NS v.2 too heavy! The top and back plates are both 40mm thick steel... this much weight would risk breaking the basket.

Nightshade v.2 Teaser Picture
The coil : Left to Right : Monster D1 coil, NS v.2 D2 Coil, NS v.1 D1 Coil It is a good bit heavier than the v.1 NS coil but about 15 grams of that is in the former as it is double thickness material. Still 15g lighter than the Monster coil The "standard" coil is very long... I will also be offering a 56mm version with 0.7 / 1.4 DCR... the long coils are 1.0 / 1.8 DCR.

Amp power ratings?
We also didn't turn it up all the way -- we stopped when the sub didn't want to move any farther. Amps don't put out their full power constantly -- depends on where you set the gain, volume control, etc. And yes, the box does have a good bit of rise too.

New Sundown "E" Woofer Line Sneak Preview
That is correct - primarily from the extra mass of the heavier cone as it gets larger.
-
Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale
they cant handle more than that?Or is it not recommended? That is the official rating -- if you run more power it's up to you.
-
Sundown SA-8 Pre-Sale
They are 400 watts RMS.

149.9 (Outlaw) with one 8" Sundown SA-8
This setup is loudest with the door open - it was designed for this application which is called "Outlaw" --- We have an SAZ-3500D @ 1 ohm on it... probably 1200-1700 actual watts if I had to guess.

149.9 (Outlaw) with one 8" Sundown SA-8
We got it 150.2 dB this time by sealing up the port panel and running the speaker wire out of a drilled hole (sealed with silicone) rather than out the port :
