Wall Socket Sundown SA-12
Yes sir We have even improved them for the next production run... not that they needed it, but that is how I roll.

Wall Socket Sundown SA-12
Part II at 2 ohms this time ! Way too much power but we did it anyway! Played 19 seconds before failure at 400-600% over rated power. Started at 3720 watts and dropped to 2472 right before failure (multiply the current by 120 volts). Don't try this at home.

Here we go... it FINALLY processed on YouTube:

Wall Socket Sundown SA-12
So... you want to know how much the SA-12 will take thermally ? Video starts at 14.5 amps (1740 watts) power drops off to the 1200 - 1400 watt range after the first 10 seconds and continues to play for a total of about 35 seconds at this power level. Never going below DOUBLE rated power for the entire time on straight sine wave wall socket power @ 60 Hz. The woofer is NOT broken but I decided to stop as the current continued to drop indicating the coil was getting too hot. I plan to use this one in my Jeep so I didn't want it to go until it quit http://www.sundownaudio.com/misc/SA-12_Production/Wall-Socket/CIMG2652.MOV Fun stuff This is a Dual-2 -- first sample that I built yesterday -- so nominal load was 4 ohms. I didn't use the Dual-4 (production) since it would be either 8 ohms (not much power) or 2 ohms (too much power).

Working on a little something...
SA-8 will come in Dual-2 at first... four (1 ohm) or two (2 ohms) on an SAZ-1500D or one each on SAX-125.2 @ 4 ohms. Also for SPL heads... burping two at 1/2 ohm on a 1500D. Motor is 6.14" wide and 3.05" tall -- pretty beefy. I am looking at 1000+ on burps and 400-500 daily... we'll see how testing goes.

Slot or areo ports
Either can be extremely loud. Team Nemesis Steve is at 156+ no-wall with a slot port box... many folks didn't think that would happen. I'd like to do a direct comparison one day with the same box design but I have not yet done so apples to apples. It is my theory that for a slot port you can make up for the lack of smooth flow with a bit more area.

head units
I am closing this... I don't see any reason for a fight on the forum about this. If you want help, let us know. If you have already made up your mind - that is your choice, sorry to hear it.

It is a very established fact that the 3000D is a very competent competition amplifier -- any claim to the contrary indicates an issue with the setup / application to me. I can protect a 3000D at 1 ohm nominal with a straight burp and my head unit maxed out completely... I can also roll it at 1/4 ohm and 18v with the same head unit when dialed in properly. Any of us would be happy to help - I don't recall ever hearing from you about the subject. Protection indicates a condition outside of the operating parameters of the amp -- you may need to roll with your particular reactive load (which you did not specify if you were or not).

SA-10 and SA-15 Factory Pictures
Both the SA-10 and SA-15 will come standard with two performance upgrades from the current SA-12 (the next run of 12s will include these standard too). 1) Custom tooled triple joint strengthening ring. The only failures to date under any condition of the SA-12 have been of this joint under *extreme* abuse -- in my case 1200-1800 watt burps in tested. 2) 12 drilled basket holes for cooling rather than four. After extensive testing I found that 12 holes are more beneficial than either 4 holes or a "wide open" setup like the basket spacers on Nightshade 18s and/or the 12-spoke frame. The air velocity stays high but allows more flow than the original four holes. I can add both of these during a re-cone

MSRP ~$199 or so as the SA-12 is $249 MSRP. I will pre-sale them for ~100 shipped more than likely, though!

Birthsheets ?
In car audio there isn't much trusting of anyone to be going on until there are many independent tests of a product. There are no real manufacturer standards... even CEA-2006 doesn't cut it. I have seen products fall short of their CEA rating when tested independently.

$26 shipping. It pretty much does just multiply until you get into really large shipments.

Yes they are D4 -- they come with blank caps as they are not an official Sundown product.

SAZ 3000D to strap or not to strap?
I would just do one amp at one ohm.

Maybe you should turn your gain down ? Are you saying it is entering protection ? If the gain is too high and you do a straight burp you will get protection -- have you tried rolling ? There are 100s of 3000Ds in the SPL lanes so it is not the product it is either application or user error. Being that you are in South Carolina and presumably compete in SPL you should know alot of folks run the 3000s in all sorts of configurations from 1/4 ohm to 18v, etc without issues. So... if your getting protect on a burp you either need to adjust your settings or how you burp. A gain is there to match to your head unit voltage -- have you measured actual HU voltage ? PS: Have we met at a show ? If so you could have asked me for tips.

3500D Recieved?
The truck was delayed twice due to weather and then poor scheduling on their part -- but they promised me it would show up today for sure.

Did you already speak w/ dB-R ? I think he e-mailed me last night and said you did - so simply send it in as he suggested.

I might try a bunch in the Jeep

10s tested great - the 15" needs a different cone... sampling that. Once all testing is complete pre-orders will open up on them.

We sat an 8" frame on an SA-12 motor at the shop and I knew what had to be done This motor is slightly smaller, but not much!
