Keep in mind that a power rating is only as good as the conditions it was made under : It takes 4x the excursion for each octave DOWN in response to maintain the same output level -- so assuming a brick wall HPF at 40 hz that is 4x less excursion right there than our rated power level With a decent x-over anywhere from 50-80 Hz you are on track to run significantly more power. I run two channels of a 200.4 on my set crossed at 50 Hz @ 24 dB -- any sane level of listening is just fine. Most folks will likely be crossing over @ 80 Hz and 100+ watts per side is no issue at all for *almost* any user. Also note MOST ratings you see on components are BOTH sides combined. I don't feel like that is an honest way to rate a set at all so I've done it differently. I also do not want to confuse everyone with an "official" conditional rating of "100-watts... well if you use X crossover at X dB per octave" -- so an absolutely worst case rating has been applied.

Not sure yet -- depends on how caught up I can get from my trip.- Sundown 2012 Frames : Samples Arrived
The samples arrived while I was out of town -- back now and on to the photos ! Weights : 10" 12-spoke : 1.7 lbs 10" Sundown : 4 lbs 12" 12-spoke : 2.3 lbs 12" Sundown : 5 lbs 15" 12-spoke : 3.4 lbs 15" Sundown : 7.9 lbs Not a finely calibrated scale so within a few tenths. * THICK rim -- no more cracked rim with over-tightened screws or with a super heavy motor. * THICK base -- no worries about bolts pulling through even with motors 2-3x heavier than we use now. ----- Still awaiting our new cones and surrounds to arrive... then we can do some building and show off what these can do ! ----- Mocked up on a motor with our new spacer ring... very similar to the Z v.3 18" spacer but the ID matches our new frame base and this one is a bit thicker to allow a bit more air flow as the new frames have more displacement potential. The same spacer works on all sizes 10/12/15 as well. * Inner air passage on spacer * Outer air passage * This is a 12" frame and motor mock-up; proportionately looks alot like the SA-8 v.2- Jacob Out of Town 9/26/12 to 10/1/12
I'm back @ work this morning !- Jacob Out of Town 9/26/12 to 10/1/12
As the title states. I will be on an actual vacation for the first time in ~6 years or so. The rest of the crew will still be here at the shop holding down the fort. You can still reach Brandon and Debbie as you normally would. Some things may be delayed a bit that require my attention but most things will get done no problem.- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
We have a second set running power test cycles at the factory. They already passed 100-watts RMS per side for 8 hours -- yesterday we ran them up to 125-watts RMS for 8 hours as well. Will continue to run more cycles on them until failure and rate them around that level- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
Got the prototypes in -- I won't be able to test for a bit as I'm going on my first real vacation in about 6 years next week... but many they look and feel fantastic. Little bit of free air testing on the mid has us all smiling * It was hard to see in other photos but the "S" surround turned out great. * I am looking into closing off the edges of the x-over as well... still in the works.- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
Yes, these are XBL Cool beans I've always enjoyed the XBL gear I've played with. Be interested in seeing the specs on them. Did you go with XBL on the tweeter as well? Not many of those out there. Yes the tweeter is also XBL- New 2012 Sundown Frames - Actual Photos !
They are made for lines ABOVE the SA series -- so big... likely NS v.3 will be first test motor.- New 2012 Sundown Frames - Actual Photos !
I am incredibly excited... like a kid in a candy store. There are so many woofers I have wanted to build / prototype that I just haven't been able to do with existing frames -- now it's all wide open Can't wait to start pushing the limits of the new platforms !!!- New 2012 Sundown Frames - Actual Photos !
They are being shipped to me soon -- I will take a TON of photos upon arrival.- New 2012 Sundown Frames - Actual Photos !
The molds completed a few days ago and the first samples rolled out -- here are a few of the first look photos from our basket manufacturing company! I am super excited about the potential these will bring to out larger woofers. Once our new spiders, cones, surrounds, and spacers are all tooled we can really show off what these are capable of -- those parts should have completed samples as well soon too. These things carry some serious heft... the base plate that bolts to the motor is 9mm thick un-painted compared to 5mm on most 4 and 12-spokes and 8mm on the Ti-18 frames (add about 0.5mm for paint). They are the strongest frames that I am aware of ever to be produced. ----- 10" Model ----- 12" Model : ----- 15" Model :- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
Yes, these are XBL- SAZ-1500D v.3 / SAX-125.4 Pre-Orders
We did have some unforeseen hold-ups on shipping the SAX-125.4 and SAZ-1500D v.3 pre-orders but they are rolling out again as of today -- we'll be working overtime to get them tested and shipped. Hope everyone really enjoys them upon arrival !!!- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
* Overall Set * Crossover Cover * Crossover Guts * Crossover Side -- Very thick / heavy duty housing plates * Midrange Front * Midrange Back -- Notice lead wires ran below spider. I will also likely make the finish chrome for more durability and weather resistance. * Overall side view * Tweeter * Rear Tweeter View * Tweeter Side View ---------- Final MAP price from authorized dealer is $799 for the entire set. I am looking into selling the parts separately as well -- but those details have not been worked out yet. I am planning on doing a good bit of testing and tweaking before starting production on these -- so consider this pretty early in the game. Will update once the prototype set arrives and we test it.- Sundown : Reference SQ Component Set
So is anyone ready to see some updates on these bad boys ?- Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)
They will be $199 from authorized dealers. Pre-Order price is TBA. As of now I have not considered selling the parts separately. If a demand for it shows itself I may consider doing so down the line.- Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)
I will once I get final confirmation of shipping from the factory- Sundown : Revisiting Component Sets (Mid-Level)
Production should wrap up soon -- typical transit time is ~30 days once they depart. * Mids ready with frames and shims for assembly * Chromed back plate with logo etched in * Going down the line * Back of box has mid and tweeter measurements, response graphs, and midrange T/S specs * Front of box has feature highlights (yes I know I have an error on there -- too late to catch it!) * Tweeters ready to roll - Sundown E-10/12/15 OCTOBER SALE
