  1. On paper we gained about 10% motor strength with the 12-layer coil. We'll meter it and see what happens soon
  2. Probably pretty fast.
  3. What can happen (very rarely) is something inside may touch the bottom cover. You can use two layers of duct tape on the inside of the cover above components that are close to the bottom cover. If taking the cover off doesn't work you will have to send it in to me.
  4. I may not even use a fancy name for it - most of the other sub lines will have letter designations. Nightshade just hit me for that line and it sounded awesome so I used it
  5. Did you try removing the bottom cover and using a +12v remote turn-on instead of the regular remote ?
  6. Right. Next if that doesn't work - try to turn it on with a jumper from the +12v and not with the remote turn-on. And if that doesn't work... try to take off the bottom cover and see if it comes on - very rare issue can cause it to protect w/ the bottom cover on.
  7. Un-Strap them and try it.
  8. With two 3000s that volt gauge is probably wrong if it is reading 13.9 at full output. We have a 200-amp and a 250-amp alternator on Brandon's Bronco (450-amps total) and we can dip into the high 11s pretty quickly with two 3000s and three D3100s batteries as well. In any event - if the blue light comes on at all it may not be permanently damaged. Try swapping the power and remote wires with the other amp.
  9. I would suspect under-voltage and permanent damage unless you have since upgraded from the 150-amp alternator. Normally if it is a "regular" protect it'll come right back on. Is the blue light coming on at all or just red only ?
  10. Well I don't know of any subs that will take 6k daily anyways. Nevermind the speakers, do you know anyone's ears that will take that every day? Indeed - I had ear plugs in for most of the testing of this sub. Few times I didn't my ears hurt later - I try not to do that much!
  11. It's an idea - new products are ahead of hats for now, though
  12. dgnHnJ2PuAQ Check it out
  13. I've had a hard time thinking of a name too. Thats the last thing I'm worried about, though
  14. The "SPL" coil is a flat-wound - the round is the daily coil. We are re-building with the SPL coil this time to see what it does - we have never tested the SPL coil before so it is exciting!
  15. Three hard and two medium.
  16. Indeed 5 spiders thick!
  17. Actual output depends on impedance rise, as was mentioned above.
  18. *laughs* I have had two independent suggestions for "Night Stalker" - thoughts ? I do know that my cooling system is working GREAT... at enough power to tear off the former wrap the coil is good as new thermally: * This is the actual coil - our sharpie marks aren't even burnt off * You can see the wrap is crinkled up * Down like an accordion!
  19. We will work on re-building it with the 12-layer and at least one of our ideas for increased durability tomorrow!
  20. We'll figure out something I'm sure. Of course, it is already quite a success as I am quite comfortable saying this thing will handle a BUNCH of burp power and a few thousand watts day to day without issue - but 6000 watts "daily" is a bit much
  21. I am pretty sure it could have kept on burping with no problems for a LONG time - even with more power. I think that music with 6kw on tap is what caused the damage. I suppose I should have expected something to give out with that much power! We will work on a solution to make it even more durable, though
  22. Seems that voice coil former wraps simply cannot hold up to the Monster Sub... noticed it starting making a funny sound when I press on the cone after some HARD music demoing. Even the much better nomex wrap material is pulling off of the voice coil former. I may need to tool up something to get a larger glue joint to spread out the load and hold the coil at the top of the former... this is what testing is for! Our latest gluing methods are holding 100% - it is the voice coil wrap itself from the coil manufacturer that is failing. Of course, this also gives me the opportunity to build it up w/ the 12-layer and see if it is louder
  23. 50 Hz on the 150.1 score - dropped from 53 Hz when we did the 149.5 with the old head unit and single baffle.

The former ? With paper on it ? Yes, that varies because the position of the coil has to be different vertically to center the coil properly as the top plates are different.

RE has a few different length coils available on the MT.
