  1. Brandon tore it up this morning. Coil did not thermal - but the "new" fiberglass former wrap from the coil manufacturer slid off the coil itself. I am contacting them to try to get the old style nomex material so I can begin testing again. You can see in Post #5 that the big coil has a fiberglass wrap as opposed to the more familiar brown "paper looking" nomex wrap... not liking the fiberglass stuff at all.
  2. Nice It may take some further development in assembly techniques to perfect it but I do expect this driver to handle ridiculous amounts of power on burps by the time the design has been finalized.
  3. Wow, what sub was that and what happened ?!
  4. Yep - we will be doing a ton of daily testing first as playing for an hour or more is the real test on my cooling setup Then we will start dumping a bunch of power on it for burps. I expect to be testing it for quite a while to make sure everything is good to go.
  5. Brandon has it in the Bronco daily right now. He called me up and said by the time he got to work he put his 3000D into thermal protection (wired to 1/2 ohm) and the sub is still fine *laughs* So far so good on testing.
  6. Looks like a fun show!
  7. We'll be playing with it for quite a while.
  8. Brandon's Bronco simply doesn't meter high - but this sub on the 3000D metered almost exactly like the three Nightshade 15s -- 143.5 dB Need to try in a different vehicle for some good numbers. We played around with it for about an hour an it's doing fine so far
  9. Track 17 on Bass Mekanik 5.0
  10. We are going to see if we can get it in a vehicle tonight for some more testing. The test box is by no means good on the meter, but we may post numbers anyway.
  11. We have it at 1/2 ohm nominal, it is rising to ~1.5 - 2 ohms and seeing ~2000-2400 watts or so actual power pretty well constantly. This box seems to have a pretty large impedance rise, so we couldn't get more on it. Based on how little we got it to move I don't see more power being much of a problem at this point.
  12. * Holds cardboard against the ceiling from port air movement, 2400-watts clamped power on a sine wave * Knocking one roll of tape off the port * Two rolls of tape now (still processing as I post) * Playing around a bit with the sub on music
  13. 2400 watts didn't seem to phase it after a few minutes on sine waves.
  14. First Video: Launching card-board off the port w/ an E8 coil (copper) on it. We did some more of this later, vids in process. At the time I am posting it is still processing... give it a few minutes before clicking on it.
  15. I'll have it for a while doing my own testing before anyone else gets it.
  16. Got some specs with very little break-in time w/ the 8-layer round coil and 5 spiders: Specs in series: Re = 1.76 ohms Fs = 44.3 Hz Qes = 0.38 Qms = 14.52 Qts = 0.37 Le = 3.87 mH Vas = 20.69 L Bl = 24.40 N/A Cms = 27.67 uM/N Sens = 88.56 1w/1m A *very* usable parameter set with the full 5-spider suspension - not bad I played it at a low excursion level for just a minute or two so it's barely broken in at all - so the Fs is going to drop a bit more. I also don't have the dust cap on yet (will make a very tiny difference).
  17. Is the remote the same voltage as the input voltage ?
  18. I'll be doing something - not sure exactly what the setup will be yet.
  19. Hmmmm - good call DJ is the new owner of the truck.
  20. I don't suggest running over 18 volts... but if you must do so you can talk to Robert Wyatt on Team Sundown about his experiences as he is the only one to have done it.
  21. I tried a new packing method for yours - glad it worked out and they all made it okay!
  22. If you ever tear that one up I can re-build it with the 5 spider pack and longer coil
  23. E8
