  1. Putting this back up on the forum -- the SD-1 v.2 is a great little driver that, I think, deserves more attention
  2. So was that 9 total cars there with Sundown Audio ??
  3. Looks like Sundown made a pretty good showing overall Thanks for all of your efforts!
  4. Is it just me... or are those DEKA batteries abnormally large? Congrats on the scores!!! Any information on what frequency each one peaked at?
  5. The new Mag is not designed for over 1000 watts nor does it require over 1000 watts in any circumstance that I can imagine (within reason) to sound extremely good. The new version is an SQ driver above everything else and was not made to "soak up" more power than it needs. And again, this isn't a bad thing for what this Mag was made to do -- it simply doesn't NEED any more than 1000 watts for it's intended application, accurate music reproduction, so was not designed with more than that in mind. This is not to say you can't use a 1200-watt amp on the sub, just use care when setting the gain so you don't damage it. The previous generation Mag will handle 1200 watts without issue. If you want a sub to throw 1200 watts on pretty much constantly then the previous generation is probably better for you. It has a massive voice coil and plenty of mechanical clearances for this type of use. I test SAZ-3000Ds at 1/2 ohm on my pair of "old" Mags on a regular basis.
  6. It is a remote gain. Max on the remote = whatever your gain is set at. It does not go higher, it ONLY cuts down from there.
  7. Please forgive me, but I don't understand how a driver could sound louder being less sensitive. I always thought if you have 500 watts, the 92db driver would get louder than say 89db driver. Can you please explain? Cause right now I am struggling with a 84db DIYMA sub, and it is the cleanest sub I heard, but output is so low, that it's unreasonable and very disappointing. It is in tiny 0.7 cubes, I know, but I am giving it 850 watts, and it still whispers to itself back there. I can't help to think, that the sensitivity was lowered, because the sub was obviously made less rugged, and so it could still take some power without getting itself into distortion/break up and such problems, and also because the sub is designed to be in smaller enclosure. Generally a sub with a lower "sensitivity" plays lower than one with a higher sensitivity (at a given size). Comparing output at a frequency above the normal bandwidth of the subwoofer, say, 200 Hz or so the higher sensitivity sub will be louder. But, as you go down lower the reasons for the lowered sensitivity -- usually from higher mass or higher Qts on woofers -- will cause the sub to produce more low-end, which is the whole reason to have a SUB woofer. PA Drivers tend to have a low Qts and very low mass, hence high sensitivity ratings, but they also tend to have almost no SUB bass output compared to a true subwoofer driver. I'm simplifying it a bit, of course, but thats the basic idea you are looking at. Also, with the Mag it has less BL loss vs. excursion than the older Mag, so it's not losing BL as it begins to move and is thus not becoming less efficient vs. excursion. You can't look at static parameters to determine this, but it is the nature of the dynamic properties of XBL^2 to be more efficient over excursion than a non-flat BL topology.
  8. I may end up using it in my car if nobody takes it soon, it's a really great driver -- I'm just not ready to call it the final version
  9. Quite a few random amps laying around added.
  10. Justin wants to get into the 170s at least with it, should be fun stuff!
  11. Indeed, thats the last thing I want to happen! On that note, I have a cut apart E8 prototype (there is a thread on these) and I am able to stand on the back of the former on it as well. I may get Justin to try it too. Granted, it's a little cone, but it's also an entry level driver
  12. I have many customers that run them daily at 1/2 ohm without issues. One of the first Sundown customers ran his as such for over a year before selling them -- to my knowledge they are still in operation with a new owner ("hoss" on the forums). He had a 200 amp alternator and two large batteries to support the pair at 1/2 ohm each, he also had a properly set gain to avoid clipping the amps. I am not endorsing it as I no longer warranty that usage and I will not endorse it if I do not support it.
  13. Prices dropped on all items listed currently! One-of-a-kind speakers for sale here. The X12 will provide exceptional SQ and output sealed (if nobody buys it soon I might use it). The Konaki hybrid will provide a good response sealed OR ported. The TC-9 based sub would make a good burp sub tuned relatively high. It would also do well in a moderately high tuned vented enclosure (like Digital Designs spec ported) for daily beating. You can re-cone this with just about any parts you want... if you buy a re-cone elsewhere be sure to mention the extra spacers added so the re-cone will have the voice coil aligned properly. I can acquire re-cone parts for any of these drivers in the future, so you won't be stuck with a paper weight if anything happens!
  14. It's low I'm sure Nick will post full specs soon.

    Hey, welcome aboard
  16. Welcome to the forum
  17. they should be.i reconed last month and i told scott at fi exactly what i needed. how can i check the coils? Your DMM should be sufficient. Simply read the resistance (impedance). Make sure the woofer is not hooked to the amp and is not moving while measuring. Each coil should read very close to one another.
  18. Good to hear that. IMO, Nick has created one of the best sounding subs I've heard to date with the new Mag. If SQ is what you want, you've got it and it'll be worth the wait.
  19. I think you will be very pleased with the 1500Ds and 100.4 when combined with the CDT comp set and, of course, the new Mags when they are available
  20. I need to hear that Mag again. What we need to do is at least hook an SAE-1000D to it!
  21. Yep, an incredibly strong one.
  22. That wiring looks fine to me. Are you sure both woofers are D2 coils? Are both coils reading okay on both subs?
  23. With two it gained around 2 dB Of course, we lost a BM... and we aren't sure when it happened. So it may have more in it still.
