  1. I believe these are split-coil and the old ones are XBL^2
  2. Production has started on these, so not too much longer.
  3. Third one is closest but not quite.
  4. Trying Had to move to a different build house so I got held up again.
  5. I would have to locate a coil supplier to make me limited runs of D2 coils... but maybe as a special thing.
  6. I have a question on this part. I just got a SAE-1000D from theabunai and I'm going to hook it up to a single SI Mag D2 12" once I complete my new box. Above, you have a pair of Mags wired to 0.5 ohms to get the 1 ohm power from the amp. Should I assume with just a single Mag wired to 1 ohm will actually get me about 1.5 ohm or something and not get 1000 Watts? Thanks Every amplifier on the market is rated at an "actual" load -- so that will apply for any amplifier you purchase regardless of brand. But yes, that means that on average your impedance is greater than 1 ohm and on average you get less than 1000 watts from the amplifier. Regardless, the SAE-1000D is a great match for your SI Mag and is plenty of power -- they do not require tons of power to sound great, I've ran them with as little as 250 watts and loved them I used a 1/2 ohm nominal load as I can predictably get a load of almost exactly 1 ohm at the right frequency in my test box to measure power in a repeatable manner.
  7. I am a bit reluctant to give a number as I don't have my final build cost yet. But, based on my estimates they will be in the range of $349 - 399 MSRP. Maybe a little less if I can get away with it, we'll see how my final cost turns out. Of course, as always, contact your dealer for best pricing when they are out.
  8. Pics will come when the prototype is done, but I figured I would post up what I'm doing since the other thread was so old and out of date!
  9. Haha, not quite It's not quite so amazing as having two pooper shooters, but it is pretty cool and very functional for cooling.
  10. I'm not telling yet Not until the proto comes in and I can show photos of it.
  11. *laughs* Good guess on the abbreviation, but not quite Got the last two words right, though!
  12. The old thread was getting, well, old... so it's time for a new one. The build house that I was working with on the X12 for the previous three iterations of prototypes was unable to produce my design to spec properly... so production has been moved elsewhere. Since I was already behind I decided to implement all of my other ideas for improving the design now rather than for later versions. 1) Changed to dual, mirrored progressive spiders -- they were linear units before 2) Optimizing top plate to coil height ratios for better BL linearity -- top plate is now 16mm tall 3) Optimized magnet ID and height to avoid wasting magnet mass (not making it heavier than necessary) 4) Removed back plate gap vents to increase flux efficiency -- vents moved to sides of back plate where there is less saturation 5) Implemented exclusive Sundown Audio D.A.H.C.S for reduced voice coil temperatures -- wait and see for this one, very cool The basket will remain the same as it is an excellent unit with a great deal of clearance. I will likely retain the same white fiberglass cone as it was very well received and has an excellent strength to weight ratio. The final voice coil is a 3" diameter unit with 60mm winding length -- copper clad aluminum wire. This design has 24mm of linear excursion and an extremely symmetrical BL curve optimized with FEA software. The motor has 38mm of x-mech and the basket has over 40mm so it will be nearly impossible to bottom out the coil or the spider. The motor on this sub is no larger than it needs to be -- not too big, not too small. It is aimed at the SQL market and will not need multi thousands of watts to sound good. Power rating will weigh in at 1000 watts RMS, this design will easily handle more than this due to the D.A.H.C.S, but will not need it to perform well. The main purpose of the D.A.H.C.S is to reduce power compression within the rated power area to make a more efficient speaker for extended high output listening. In fact, a pair running on an SAZ-1500D will be a perfect combination as these will be Dual-4 ohm woofers. ----- The prototype is in the works. I will post pictures when it is ready in another couple of weeks. Obvious by the thread title, this woofer will debut in the 12" size only. I will release it in 10" and 15" sizes later on.
  13. Contact one of my dealers -- the SSA store is an authorized dealer. Be advised that 1/2 ohm is not a warrantied load and I suggest using it for SPL competition only. People do run these at 1/2 ohm daily but I cannot cover you under warranty doing so. If you are okay with that then I suggest two alternators and as many batteries as you can fit for four at 1/2 ohm -- most likely you will never have a problem.
  14. A 3000D @ 1 ohm will power two BTLs nicely, yes. For SPL burps and bassrace you can also run them at 1/2 ohm nominal... as long as you upgrade that electrical system. I have 7x Powermaster D3100s and 2x 200-amp alternators to run my 4x 3000Ds @ 1/2 ohm
  15. Thats not mad, that is me making a statement about the issue of the basket being covered previously in the thread. I did not think that my post to you sounded angry. Thread now closed... old information anyway.
  16. They were pushed back again, as mentioned in my above post... I changed build houses. I was unhappy with QC at this build house and they failed to meet my demands, therefore I took my design elsewhere -- since I was delayed so drastically I have made MANY changes to the design to make it an even better speaker. I'm hoping I can still have the 12" version out in 3-4 months.
  17. It's a Sundown "X" motor -- it's not anything else. If you are suggesting that it is the same as the Elevation SQX motor, as some others have, then I would suggest reviewing the rest of the thread where I covered that in great detail in post #78 -- it has a similar external appearance only. Also... this thread contains only early prototype pictures, *major* changes have been made since -- it will be a completely different speaker for production as the early prototypes did not satisfy my goals for this line. I have even changed build houses since then as the one I was working with failed to meet my demands for QC. --- platnum, As covered before, it IS the same basket that Elevation uses for their SQX. It's openly available like the 12-spoke.
  18. Notice that the "-" terminals have a box around them with the line going to the box... this means both. In actuality... it's one OR both. You can use one set of terminals (one + and one -) or both. They are simply connected in parallel internally.
  19. Trevor, Correct -- for continuous loud play on material that keeps the amps power output maximized a larger alternator is necessary. The battery is a "buffer" so to speak and can only stay above 12.8 volts so long when the output of the alternator has been overrun by current demand. One 1500D @ 1 ohm will run fine on stock electrical setups as long as you don't "peg it out" for long periods of time -- for actual music listening you should be good to go pending your electrical upgrades. I know that Excessive amperage makes one to the fit the old xB and xA so I would contact them about your new xB as that is probably the same as the tC alternator.
  20. Exactly what car/engine do you have? It varies quite a bit.
  21. Trevor, Yes sir, you can get HO alts for imports I've seen them up to 200 amps for Honda, I'm sure someone can make one for your Toyota vehicle.
  22. Two 15000Ds at 1/2 ohm each? That is not adequate. At full output you will dip into the 10s on voltage within a matter of 30 seconds or less. I would highly suggest a 200+ amp alternator, the largest starter battery under the hood you can get, and a Powermaster D3100 or Kinetik 2400 in the back for such a setup if you really want to take advantage of all the power you have on tap.
  23. X12 sale pending to Rich -- stratusrt01 -- will post again if he does not take them.
