  1. It has to be re-coned as that piece is below the spider - glued around the coil former. If that was broken something needs to be addressed in the system - how much power and what size box ?
  2. Looks like the triple joint ring is in pieces there. Which can only result from an incredible amount of stress on the neck joint.
  3. Finally got it done -- something I've wanted to do for quite some time now. Our published X-Max is dead on by both BL and CMS definitions -- we publish 19mm one-way travel. Inductive performance is above average as well. Our published T/S specs are also very well close to the Klippel data -- the one we sent in was just a tad less broken in than the unit published on our site so the Klippel FS was a few Hz higher but as you can tell if you know about the effects of break-in it will settle right in to exactly what we say Those that don't look at Klippel often may note the BL curve is slightly to one side -- this is not unusual in production tolerance. The shift represents the coil 2mm too far forward. This is within an acceptable production tolerance and as you can see does not interfere with the 19mm of published linear x-max. The CMS curve is also a tad tilted -- this is because a normal surround is always biased in stiffness one direction. Again, very normal behavior without going to an exotic type surround. Little bit of tech talk along with published Klippel data for you guys. Hope you enjoy.
  4. Sample motor due soon... pretty excited.
  5. I don't think a video of a comp set is too exciting Nick has been testing them in his car the whole time for durability. So far so good.
  6. I am working on alot of things.
  7. It can make noises -- also if the driver relies on the pole vent for air cooling it can hinder thermal performance.
  8. Part II... only took a little over 24 hours to upload *laughs* AT&T DSL Upload speed fail.
  9. No problem Glad you like the sound of them ! If these sell well I may design a more high-end version of this line as well -- just need to see if this type of thing will sell well for us
  10. Making it "look cooler" with a cone coating, different cone, different surround, different dust cap, etc... would make it sound worse or at the least make no change and cost more. Same with a "cool looking" frame -- the one used supports all the throw we need and these are super light so no need for cast. Anything else would be throwing money down the drain, IMO.
  11. X2 The only thing I don't like about the looks is the surround. Wonder why Jacob went with the "W" shape. Waiting to see what you say about their performance. It's a cloth PA style surround -- those are generally in W or multiple ridge shape. They are lighter and more efficient for this type of driver.
  12. My DSL connection upload speed is SLOW so I may need to re-start it on my work system. I'll check on it later as GoToMyPC is also down this morning so I cannot remote in. In any event... the depth issue is a large reason for no vent. Then way this driver is set up the coil still gets cool very well as you can tell.
  13. That was the triple joint ring hitting the top plate. Correct. I designed it so that ring hits before the coil -- coil smashing steel is alot more damaging than plastic ring smashing steel
  14. Could not break it... part II uploading now as well. This thing is super rugged.
  15. Taco, Paco, and I have spent the last half hour trying to break the SD-2 prototype with no luck... two YouTube videos coming up. Ran out of camera memory on both of them trying to break it *laughs* PS: Taco and Paco are summer interns.
  16. Little bit of testing while breaking it in for T/S measurements. Getting on it pretty hard here in the video.
  17. Debatable... I don't really want to make 18s but may eventually do it if people keep bugging me *laughs* The next line up will have 18s
  18. Perhaps get a custom made fiberglass box with an aero-port ? That would look really good Scott Bowman from Team Nemesis could make one I'm sure -- he just did some nice door panels for Johnathan Price : http://down4sound.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5619&page=10 Highly suggested guy for this type of thing as well. Yes, we do sell kits for the NS v.1 still -- we have full re-cone pricing here: Yours looks like one of the first run of them from the profile picture. If you want a Sundown tatoo that is okay with me
  19. Yes and Kinda Following Sundown tradition they will be pretty rugged too... obviously with less x-mech and a smaller coil not quite SA level but more than you would expect from a 500-watt "shallow" driver in this price class.
  20. These are much deeper than the BM MKIII and also do not feature a linear BL topology. So in effect they are quite different woofers.
  21. The UPS return tag should be in your Inbox.
  22. Motor diameter is the same, actually. SA looks a bit wider with the boot on is all -- both use 180mm diameter magnets. The SD-2 literally has one SA motor magnet slug. For sealed the 10s will enjoy about 0.5 cubes and the 12s about 1.0 cube or so... can go smaller with poly-fill if you like.
  23. Prototypes arrived today... working on doing full break-in to measure official specs. Honestly I am super happy with the prototypes -- I do plan to tool a magnet boot and put our logo on the cap but I don't think any other changes are needed at all. SD-2 12" Measured Mounting Depth = 5.25" SD-2 10" Measured Mounting Depth = 4.75" ----- Early price estimates -- MAP price (actual price paid from dealer) (SA cost for comparison) SA-10 v.1 : $185 SA-12 v.1 : $195 SD-2 10 : $150 SD-2 12 : $160 Pre-ordering would be something like : SD-2 10 : $115 SD-2 12 : $125 That would be shipped in the continental 48 states. Once I do some testing we'll have an ETA and a time when pre-ordering will begin. ----- * Quite a bit less depth than the SA series for depth restricted applications.
