Building a pair right now... on that note - I really do not plan to make any more of these until I get the spiders I'm designing for 10s as it is a bit of a pain in the butt to make these! In any event - someone talked me into making them a pair so here are a few pics :
  2. I am designing both -- and both will be excellent quality. I just don't have an ETA for either.
  3. Just tried the same thing with a brand new Type-R... a D4 model even (this is a D2 SA)... already started to break the triple joint.
  4. I used 60 Hz as we are powering woofers and in the box they are in the impedance rise is fairly predictable at right around 200% As for THD -- I'm not measuring that in this test. Just checking to see how much power it can generate when loaded down on a real load -- WELL in excess of the rated power so I am quite comfortable that the power with THD ratings from my build house are indeed accurate. Also to keep in mind... we had only 4 awg wire going to the amp on the bench. Just as a quick test I unloaded two channels and the remaining pair output right at 1000 watts. I imagine I could get close to 1kw per side still loaded down on all four channels with the proper 1/0 wire going into the amp as voltage drop going into the 11s when testing on the 4 awg.
  5. Yes, we have sold 100s of SA series woofers in Russia through our distributor there Quite a few amps and Z v.2 over there as well. We are shipping the first four NS v.2s soon... four 18s!
  6. ... well almost. 7. The power clamp reads in kW -- so 0.90, for example, is 900 watts. I kept playing it for 5 or 6 more iterations of the track after the video as I always measure T/S on at least one woofer per run to make sure everything is on track. I've already measured this one once but I've been breaking it in more to measure again
  8. I don't have specs on hand for all the various spider configurations.
  9. It hasn't gotten warm yet -- I am sure it will, though... but it does have a fan (which is VERY quiet).
  10. Little bit of clamping : All channels LOADED for the test @ 1 ohm per (2 ohms bridged on the clamped channels) -- 60 Hz tone played. Bridged channels 1 + 2 clamped. 820 Watts 62 V 13.2 A @ 4.7 ohms So 410 per channel @ 2.35 ohms We didn't measure voltage but based on other testing it should be dropping to the high 11s to low 12s. It certainly exceeds expectations
  11. Loaded down to 1 ohm per channel doing some testing.
  12. All of our subs are designed around small boxes -- the SA-12s like about 1.5 cube the 10s more like 1 cube ported. Cut either one in half +/- 25% for sealed.
  13. A little revision here... If you are going to beat the daylights out of your sub *constantly* do not, for any reason, use more than 0.5-0.6 cubes for it at any power level. The original recommendations are assuming that some care is taken to monitor mechanical stress of the driver.

Unless the SQ competition format changes I'm not that interested to be honest. When you can win a "Sound Quality" competition by having more screws turned the same way than the other guy... it ceases to be a "Sound Quality" competition.
  15. Just a little tip - it may be easier to buy a new frame than try to get the bolt down ring off the SA-8 frame on the new ones. I do have frames in stock for them. Plus side... the spider will NOT be coming off any time soon if you don't want it to. Here is one we removed this morning : As you can imagine it didn't come off easily. It is glued under the spiders, bolted through the frame, and epoxied on top.
  16. Damn David - use some screws next time *laughs* JK - looks real loud.
  17. This one uses a traditional paper cone... it's more of a test bed for ideas. May never even make it But it's cool enough that I wanted to share pictures.
  18. I'm trying out several ideas for the Neo 8... this one is TOTALLY different from the other one... this one is overhung, huge motor, solid core, 2.5" coil, giant shorting ring, etc. The other is XBL^2, compact motor, vented core, 3" coil, smaller shorting rings, etc.
  19. ... Neo-8 -- here is the other design I'm trying... more traditional over-hung design. Will be testing head to head with the XBL^2 unit when it is ready. Sneak peak as this prototype has been fully assembled at the factory : I would use a different frame if this were to be produced as the spider on this sample is not going to handle the throw I want.
  20. Each pair of 1500s is strapped on 3 subs.
  21. We tooled up a steel ring that holds the spider on the SA-8 down -- it is bolted in from the back and then epoxied in on the front... there is ALSO glue under the spider. So I don't think it's going anywhere now
