  1. How about this... the cone is SOLID -- nearly 2" thick of solid material. It's not just a flat cover on a normal cone assembly.
  2. ... do you see any hollow areas in the cone assembly ? There aren't any except where the coil goes into the assembly... it's a solid assembly not a traditional "thin" material cone with dust cap.
  3. The face of the cone is flat but that isn't what is so different about the cone
  4. These are actually done in Alibre Design.
  5. Some cone renderings : I'm not going to give away what is interesting about the cone -- I'm sure someone will spot it
  6. They are all gone - as are 50.4s
  7. LMAO!!!!! This build should be loud.... Is there any particular reason why you went with a 4th order? They work well for SPL I have helped with several 4th order full walls that worked great... and we have a local in South Carolina doing a 4th order no-wall that works great as well.
  8. * Floor installed... checked with a level. * SAX-125.2 under this side (midbass) * SAX-50.4 under this side (midrange and tweeters) I will eventually build a cover for this lower area as that should help increase SPL.
  9. Aruco ply from Lowes. Similar performance to Birch ** but a good bit cheaper... have used it before and it worked well for me. ** - It is stronger than "cabinet grade birch" but not as strong as "baltic birch" -- typically the cabinet grade is what is sold at Lowes and ONLY the faces are actually birch. 10. Decided to finally get started on it. The Jeep will be getting a no-wall 4th order build with two 15s. * Battery / Amp Rack area cleaned out... everything un-installed. My multi-channels will sit on those two little platforms where the batteries used to be. * New floor piece cut - everything will attach to this piece. * Of course XS Power D1600s will be used --- That is all for now... just ripped it all out this morning and Brandon helped me cut out the floor piece. Will make progress when time allows.
  11. They are almost back in stock -- they sold at a much faster rate than expected and production takes 90 days from start to arrival so any increase in the rate of sales can easily lead to out of stock periods. This is especially true with the SA-12s with multiple builds using 12, 16, or even 32 units each... those throw off predicted sales figures in a hurry. This time I was able to get another production run right behind the one coming in... so I'll have a shipment in a week or so and another in 3-4 weeks
  12. Got my drawing of the cone I'm planning to use... it's quite unique too -- 15 grams weight and I don't see anything short of 180 dB breaking it *laughs* (this type of cone may end up finding it's way onto some of our other subs later) Surround has linear throw up until 2 mm from the basket running out of clearance... motor is linear up until 5 mm from that point. The spider will be just as linear as the surround. So the overall design is linear up until right before things start crashing together
  13. It's too early for me to say what it can and cannot do for certain -- going on simulations and experience with other prototypes at the moment -- we'll just have to see
  14. Glad to hear you are bumping again
  15. If you have sent an email and it's been OVER 10 days with no response please re-send... got backlogged and I may have missed it.
  16. Cone / Surround are going to be pretty awesome if the concept I'm working on goes well... extremely light but strong enough to stand on. Need to drop some mass in soft parts as the coil is HEAVY.
  17. Yes, for SPL. More usable power from the amp = good Z v.2 and NS v.2 both have shorting rings. Cooling purposes? If so wouldn't you want to ditch the pole vent? Just curious. Thanks. I suppose the rings can soak up some heat... but they are there to lower inductance which reducing impedance rise which therefore allows the amp to send more power to the speaker. As for the pole vent... don't want to lose it in any of my cooling designs. There is more going on than just a pole vent -- the vent is just part of the cooling equation.

  19. Yes you do --- The coil is pretty short @ 25mm long due to XBL^2 topology -- which is why "only" a 1000-watt RMS rating. I am trying to see if I can squeeze a "mini Monster coil" in there... aka: 12-layer flat aluminum. If I can do that I think running a 2500-watt amp on one thermally would be possible... I ran a 4500 @ 0.5 daily on the Monster and for bass-race runs (149.9 from one 15) no issue... and it's coil was only 42mm long. The "stock" coil is 8-layer round copper... pretty beastly coil for the length.
  20. They are here. As stated earlier shipping of all units pre-sold will be done by Friday.
  21. You are right - I never stop thinking about new stuff Thanks.
  22. So... the SA-8 is pretty badass... but I want something louder. Starting on this project : Yep... a Neo 8 with a 3" coil and 22mm linear one-way excursion (that is XBL^2 that you see) and x-mech of 27mm on the frame I'll be utilizing. Will handle around 1000-watts RMS without much trouble thermally and mechanically. Tooling new spiders and cones just for this driver. Going to see how it turns out... but simulation predicts motor force more than 300% higher than the SA-8 if all turns out according to plan. I am designing it for myself primarily as I want to do 157s with four 8s... but I think others will enjoy them too =) Pricing will be a bit higher than an NS v.2 due to the Neo -- but it is a very unique driver that will be worth it to some folks. Oh yah... the motor will bolt to standard 12 and 4-spokes as well so I can build these as 10s, 12s, 15s, and 18s as well. Motor is a pretty small diameter (~6.3") so will also make a fantastic Street SPL woofer as it won't occupy a ton of room in the enclosure. NO ETA for production or prototype just yet due to the new cone and spider toolings... but I will update this thread as things come along !
  23. USA made coils... around 500 degrees. So... HOT AS CRAP.
  24. Yes, still SAZ-1500D... working on pricing details. Will at least be really close to what it is now.
  25. Excellent - what speaker is being used ?
