Sundown : Woofer Dimension Sheet (Example)
First one is complete. This should take care of alot of common and uncommon questions about our woofer dimensions. I am looking into printing them at full scale on our packing boxes as well. I'll be adding them to the X thread when the X drawings are done and will also add them to our site for pretty much every model woofer we make.

Sundown X Series 10/12/15/18 Pre-Order : ETA June 2013
Our ETA is roughly the end of June on these; as always this can vary a bit based on parts supplier production times, transit times, customs times, etc. Based on our average shipping time that is our best estimate. That being said this pre-order will ONLY be open to the public until April 15th, 2013 -- OR until a given size / coil configuration sells 50% of the quantity being produced. I do not want to be out of stock instantly so we are running this much shorter than our other pre-orders. This pre-order is for the USA ONLY -- check with your distributor if you are outside of the USA; if you do NOT have a distributor in your country you can check with us. The below rates are shipping in the continental 48 states; e-mail us or your dealer for AK or HI pricing. Pricing as follows : PART # // REGULAR MAP // PRE-ORDER RATE X-10 (D2/D4) -- $329 -- $280 X-12 (D2/D4) -- $349 -- $300 X-15 (D2/D4) -- $389 -- $330 X-18 (D2/D4) -- $409 -- $350 You can pre-order from any participating local or online dealer OR directly with us via Paypal to [email protected] -- you MUST include a note stating EXACTLY what you are ordering. As is typical with a pre-order the sale is final ; make sure you are not placing yourself in a bad financial situation by pre-ordering. Do not pre-order if you are on a tight schedule ; the dates are NOT set in stone. An adjusted date is not considered a valid reason to request a pre-order refund. If you have ANY doubt about waiting or your financial situation DO NOT pre-order. ---------- The X series is our 1250 RMS rated line -- they feature a 3" diameter CCAW round wire coil and our new frame, spider, surround, and cone platform. Linear x-max is around ~30mm one-way by 70% BL with a total mechanical clearance of 50mm in the motor. These woofers are designed excel in high output DAILY low frequency applications. If you are looking for a burp driver or a driver to excel on “higher” bass frequencies; this is NOT it. We will offer SPL burp style re-cone kits for them at a late date – but the stock format is not made for that. * Z v.4 12 on the left and X-12 on the right. * Z v.4 12 on the left and X-12 on the right. * New terminal blocks ! * Essentially looks like a "mini-Z" style motor... 190mm magnet vs. 220mm on the Z series / 66mm tall stack vs. 75mm tall stack / thinner steel / less expensive round wire coil vs. flat wire in the Z, etc, etc. ---------- Preliminary Specifications : ** The production models have a stiffer surround which will result in an FS about 5-10 Hz higher, higher Qts, etc. They will also have a slightly tighter gap which increases the BL a bit ** X-10 D2: Re : 3.63 ohms Fs : 27.9 Hz (Stiffer Surround = 32 Hz) Qes : 0.43 (Stiffer Surround = 0.49) Qms : 4.7 Qts : 0.39 (Stiffer Surround = 0.45) Le : 4.11 mH Sd : 366 cm^2 Vas : 19.47 L BL : 21.67 NA Mms : 317 g Cms : 102 uM/N (Stiffer Surround = 75.16 uM/N) Sens : 81.66 dB 1w/1m X-10 D4: Re : 5.96 ohms Fs : 29. 15 Hz Qes : 0.54 Qms : 5.26 Qts : 0.49 Le : 6.14 mH Sd : 366 cm^2 Vas : 19.06 L BL : 24.45 NA Mms : 297 g Cms : 100 uM/N Sens : 81.14 dB 1w/1m X-12 D2: Re : 3.7 ohms Fs : 24.35 Hz Qes : 0.37 Qms : 4.38 Qts : 0.35 Le : 3.76 mH Sd : 457 cm^2 Vas : 38.02 L BL : 22.35 NA Mms : 333 g Cms : 127 uM/N Sens : 83.35 dB 1w/1m X-12 D4: Re : 5.84 ohms Fs : 26.43 Hz Qes : 0.48 Qms : 4.48 Qts : 0.43 Le : 5.18 mH Sd : 457 cm^2 Vas : 34.38 L BL : 25.16 NA Mms : 313 g Cms : 115 uM/N Sens : 82.96 dB 1w/1m X-15 D2: Re : 3.68 ohms Fs : 20.51 Hz Qes : 0.42 Qms : 4.81 Qts : 0.39 Le : 4.00 mH Sd : 729 cm^2 Vas : 107 L BL : 21.79 NA Mms : 422 g Cms : 142 uM/N Sens : 85.17 dB 1w/1m X-15 D4: Re : 5.78 ohms Fs : 20.88 Hz Qes : 0.52 Qms : 4.94 Qts : 0.47 Le : 5.99 mH Sd : 729 cm^2 Vas : 103 L BL : 24.85 NA Mms : 422 g Cms : 137 uM/N Sens : 84.34 dB 1w/1m X-18 D2: Data not available X-18 D4: Re : 5.85 ohms Fs : 20.5 Hz Qes : 0.57 Qms : 5.61 Qts : 0.52 Le : 5.92 mH Sd : 1140 cm^2 Vas : 237 L BL : 24.79 NA Mms : 470 g Cms : 128 uM/N Sens : 87.22 dB 1w/1m ---------- PHYSICAL SPECIFICATIONS :

Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car
The box requirements are on-par with the SA and Z v.3 lines ; BUT the new suspension allows for so much more capacity a larger box can be utilized for greater bottom-end extension with no worries about damaging the woofer; so the box RANGE is dramatically increased.

Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car
Typical dB Drag mic position on the glass -- it does the same on burps and music assuming the music is dead-on at 30 hz.

Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car
As a low tuned setup it's not super strong sealed up but we did meter it at a show over the weekend : Two Windows Down = 144.5 dB Driver Window Down = 145.1 dB Both done @ 30 Hz -- we'll be trying two of them on an NS-1 at some point; shooting for 150 dB with driver window down @ 30 Hz I believe Derrick took a good bit of videos of it from the show too !

Sundown X-15 Video on SAZ-3500D
Sorry for the noob question, but what is the advantages of the 18" frames to come later? On the X line -- nothing really; and I may leave them alone with the 6-spoke and spider adapter. The tooled 18" frame will support even larger spiders and will also be a much stronger frame (for our heavier lines). The 257mm spider on our tooled adapter on the 6-spoke is more than enough for the X woofer.

Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car
Was making my rounds to post up on the forums but someone beat me to it ; here is the text from the post I'm making on the other forums : "Quick video we did on Derrick's phone last night. Lighting isn't fantastic but we wanted to get something up as soon as it started playing. I'll have to work on getting another with my HD camera and some better lighting. SAZ-3500D v.2 (original prototype) on the Z v.4 12" D1 prototype woofer -- single 6" aero-port box tuned to ~30 Hz in a box around ~3 ft^3 or so. The VW has a stock alternator and an XS S3400 battery so we went big on the box to avoid pushing the amp hard enough to drop voltage super low and clip (we had clipping / 11.5v drops in the smaller box). We were getting some very high excursion levels; not to the point of maxing out the suspension but quite a bit beyond what our older platforms are capable of. The video doesn't show this the best so stay tuned for more videos. The goal with the new frame and suspension platform was to create drivers that you don't have to worry about hitting suspension limits -- and that is what we achieved. Even in a big box with a ton of power mechanical stresses are almost non-existent. Jovanni drivers this car daily and is not easy on it so I consider it an excellent durability test !"

Sundown Z v.4 12" Prototype In-Car
It's not there quite yet -- of course we have the driver in 3 cubes on a 3500D @ 0.5 ohm so it's getting way up there in throw.

E-Mail System Glitches and Solution
We've had some e-mail system glitches at the shop. I've been discussing it on our Facebook page the last few days -- the long of the short is that if you sent a message before February 1st and didn't get a response there is a HIGH likelihood that your message was lost; it is not being ignored but it simply isn't here. Our e-mail volume was too much for consumer e-mail programs and they freaked out a bit... various database problems. In any event our new Zendesk support ticket system for our e-mails is working very smoothly; we fired it up yesterday. If you have an e-mail in that is older than February 1st please re-send it to one of these @sundownaudio.com addresses; brandon, contact, sundownz, or if it is a dealer inquiry dealer. Each one is @sundownaudio.com -- since the new system is active that will deposit the message in the new system. Due to the e-mail system glitches we lost alot of messages prior to February. Going into the future the new system should more than handle this as it's used by many MUCH larger companies for their support needs. This applies to the returns e-mail which is hooked up to the RMA form on our web-site; so re-submit that if you did so before February 1st without a response. We will be adding debbie to the system; so follow the same guideline about messages older than February 1st for her -- but wait until after lunch time today (EST). As we will be bringing it online on her system. Messages from Feb 1st until now will be getting put into the system for ticket style responses; we will likely have that imported soon.

Jacob / Brandon GONE 1/5/13 to 1/14/13
Both Brandon and I will be out of town from the 5th to the 14th this month (January 2013) for a business trip that involves CES and several other sub-trips while we are on the west coast. Debbie will still be here on the phones and e-mail to process as many orders as possible (paperwork-wise). We will also still have Thomas in here in the build room and also the rest of our shipping and packing crew will still be here. Some advanced or tricky questions / orders may be delayed while we are away but most "standard" work should be handled without much issue. Both Brandon and I will do some e-mailing in the evenings from our hotels; as much as possible. We are both still a bit behind from Christmas and New Years as well. If you have an e-mail that is more than ~5-6 days old, though, please re-send it and we'll try to get to it ASAP.

You won't see the 18" frames in a few months. Perhaps around the end of 2013.

Sundown X-10 / X-15 / X-18 Prototypes Here
FS is up around 5 Hz or so with the Z style spider and stiffer surround ; so I think that will get us where we need to be with these. I was happier with how it acted free air and on the specs. So that means the X series will have a 4-layer spider and the Z series will have a 5-layer spider (previously NS stiffness) -- then the NS will have a 6-layer spider.

Sundown X-10 / X-15 / X-18 Prototypes Here
I have a revised stiffer surround for the 10" frame in stock to test -- working on re-building an X-10 motor. As I don't have all of the new parts available in bulk yet this X-10 will get a Z v.4 coil and spider -- and I'll compare CMS to the Z v.4 10" I made. As CMS is the only figure I really need to know to figure out if the surround is stiff enough. Here are a few pics of the X-10 soft parts and motor that haven't been show yet : * Original parts; 60mm long 3" D4 coil * Fun pic with parts upside-down on the motor and frame * Very tall pole extension to keep the coil from smacking into the top plate when it leaves the gap (as the suspension allows that much throw) + the top plate has a small bevel on it as well as another safety measure. The tall pole extension also gives us more linear x-max. * Frame on the motor. One thing about the new motors with the tall extensions is that they won't work on "standard" frames as the pole extension would be too tall -- unless, of course, one machined customer spacers to get the basket higher. Other coils will work on the gap but other frames aren't practical to use (except other tall frames like the Ti style).

Sa 8v2 break in difference?
What are the specs of the 6th order ? We have a trio of the SA-8 v.2s in one of my vehicles tuned to ~29 Hz -- peaks at 29 Hz and does about 145 dB there
