E8 v.2 Prototype
This is a 150mm OD magnet and the E8 v.1 was 140mm OD -- so it gained 10mm of magnet OD. Thickness is the same. Biggest motor size difference is in the top plate where this is 15mm and the E8 v.1 was 8mm. Back plate is also thicker on the v.2 model.

E8 v.2 Prototype
So... SA-8 a little too big / powerful / deep for you ? I'm working on the E8 v.2 model as well for those of you who fit that description. THERE IS NO ETA OR PRICE YET - MY PROTOTYPE JUST GOT HERE TODAY! Works a bit better sealed as well -- very close to the E8 v.1 in sealed performance. Sticking to the 200 RMS rating of the E8 v.1 but this model is alot more robust -- I did alot of thinking over the last year or so about how to make an affordable 8" driver that can take more abuse than the E8 v.1 could... and this is what I came up with. It will be cheaper than the SA-8 but, obviously, more expensive than the E8 v.1 model. Magnet is 6mm narrower than the SA-8 and only a single stack... I cranked it up pretty high on our test bench 1500 @ 1 ohm and I was pleased. It doesn't have the advanced coil cooling of the SA-8 but doesn't need it as it's a 200 RMS rated driver. On to the pictures and specs : * Yes the top plate is slightly taller than the SA-8 -- stamped frame to reduce costs (it has a glossy black finish). * Rubber surround - the surround is the limiting factor excursion wise in this driver so I used rubber to prevent tearing. The E8 v.1 foam surround allowed more travel than the driver could safely handle - so I put a "brake" on this driver so to speak. * Bumped back plate allows 25mm of throw before bottoming out -- but the surround will stop the driver before that. * Exact same spider as the SA-8 but only a SINGLE layer instead of two like the SA-8 SPECIFICATIONS: RE: 3.927 ohms Fs: 43.59 Hz Qes: 0.643 Qms: 4.404 Qts: 0.555 Le: 2.75 mH Vas: 7.22 L BL: 13.023 NA Cms: 131 uM/N Mms: 101 grams Sens: 81.53 1w/1m Xmax: 10.5mm one-way linear Power: 200 RMS ----- I am really excited about it... the design came out EXACTLY like I envisioned it... I really cannot give any ETA at all but I had to share since I was so pleased with it.

Z v.2 18 / 3 Spiders / NS Cone TS Specs
NS v.2 will always have a lower FS with a given suspension as the coil is significantly heavier. 149.9 shouldn't be too hard for either two of these or two NS v.2 -- the NS v.2 is made to sustain more power, though.

New Product - SAZ-2500D - Coming Soon
Sorry guys - but I am not going to stop developing better products because it makes some folks feel left out on new models. If I did that nothing would ever improve. EVERY company changes products -- many manufacturers every single year. So I don't think I should be getting heat on this. If you need a matching 2000D I will try to help you locate one. I'm closing this.

Z v.2 15 / 3 Spiders / NS Cone TS Specs
Got a pair built to ship to a customer... Customized with double leads, 3 spiders, and a Nightshade cone. Specs as follows with a few minutes break-in : RE: 1.84 ohms FS: 37.87 Hz Qes: 0.531 Qms: 7.56 Qts: 0.496 Le: 1.30 mH Vas: 45.9 L BL: 16.73 NA Cms: 52.21 uM/N Mms: 338 grams Sens: 88.56 1w/1m NS cone + Double leads add about 80 grams MMS compared to the Z v.2 cone with single leads. The added mass got the Fs down and Qts up a bit -- which will be quite suitable for the 4th order band-pass the customer wants to use.

Woofer Building Back-Log
No, it won't delay the SA-8s -- they are not built here in house.

Woofer Building Back-Log
Hey guys, We are back-logged for a bit on woofer building here. The Z v.2 shipment landed last week and we have been SLAMMED ever since. We also sold the last stack of BM 10s to a customer and have been working to get those out to him. So... expect a bit longer lead time to get a sub if you order one we have to build. I plan to work late this week to catch up as fast as possible.

Sundown EXACT same as IA and RD amps??
As for woofers -- the Z v.2 and NS v.2 (and all but the first run of NS v.1) are built here at Sundown. The NS v.2 is the result of well over a years work of testing the "Monster" prototype and the Nightshade v.1 since they were introduced... pretty slick design. I was able to use a ~50% longer coil and add quite a bit of mass (triple joint ring, thicker former, more windings, etc) with NO loss in SPL output per watt. The motors are not built in house as it's not cost effective for us at this time -- but final assembly takes place here. Smaller woofers are outsourced -- I've spent a few years getting to know the build houses that assemble my woofers and I am now quite familiar with what they are capable of and can make top quality drivers with them. The SA-12s have had only ONE driver fail our pre-shipment QC out of all the units sold so far. I wasn't able to get QC that good in the USA.

Z v.2 15" Production Unit
Jon, We are WAY backed up (about 50 Z v.2 to build) but we are working on them as fast as possible.

Sundown EXACT same as IA and RD amps??
Hey guys, I use two Korean build houses for amps -- the 4500D is made in a different place than my other Korean amps. I use a Chinese build house for the SAE-1200D and future SAE models (SAE-1000D was Korean). I am slowly tooling proprietary boards for Sundown one at a time... the SAZ-3500D is my board tooling, the SAZ-2500D is my board tooling, and I have several more in the works that I have not discussed. Same build house does not make all the amps the same. Support, warranty, and service also make a big difference and are the #1 reason people keep coming back to Sundown. PS: All of the new Incriminator amps are proprietary boards for IA as well. I know the guys over at IA and they make a fine product.
