  1. You can get an autometer digital round gauge if you wanted in the gauge pod. Also for the stinger you can use a piece of window tint to darken it down
  2. 30hz is too low i tbink. I would shoot more around 35hz. You also need 1.2 to 1.5 cft net.
  3. Thanks! I was waiting to add the grounds and do some tweaking this weekend. May have a vid to share. I'm not sure how close this driver is to the production model. This one is more of a hybrid. It has the x motor with NS coil and cone and Z V2 spider. I'm real happy with it despite not having it at full potential yet.
  4. Thanks! I have a tendency to over build things a bit and this one was no exception haha. With 4 1" dowel rods and double baffles and near an entire bottle of titebond glue plus screws it's on the solid side. Surprisingly it is light since I used birch. I think mdf it would have taken 2 people to move it. I'm running it off a sax1200 right now and it even surprised me. Even with the big 3 my headlights were dimming a bit so I had to back down the gain. Looks like I will be adding a couple more grounds and maybe a 2nd batt. The ssf is actually set just above port tuning and it still goes deep. I need to adjust that but the amp is ridiculous to get to. May have a few vids to share later.
  5. Double baffle Binding posts I made Flush mounted Complete box. Had a piece left over so made a double baffle for the top and rounded over the edge Took it for a test ride last night and it wangs! I still need to do some tweaks. The gain and ssf is still set for the sa-8 I had in there. Thanks for looking!
  6. Picked up the proto from Jacob about a month ago. Finished up the box last night and wanted to share some pics. specs: 1.85 cf3 after displacements 3/4 birch that isn't really 3/4 6" aero 31hz tune sub: port: I flush mounted it then cut another plate to fit on the inside. That gave me more surface to epoxy and helped seal up the giant hole on the backside. Painted it several coats of hammered black. Used 1" dowel rods for bracing and support of the port.
  7. Thanks for the replies. This sub is a prototype and has a lot of xmax. According to calculations I needed 28sqin port area. A 6" aero was right at that. The box wasnt deep enough to place the sub in front of the port. A slot port took up too much airspace. I played around with 2 3" ports but couldnt get it to work right and not enough port area according to calculations. This sub has over 20mm linear. Its one Jacob cooked up a while back.
  8. I'm starting a box for my new 12 this weekend. Using a 6" aero for this one. Most of my boxes in the past have been sealed or slot port. Was shooting for 1.75cf3 after displacements and a tune in the low 30's. I'm limited in depth (~14") but had plenty of width (~56"). I came up with this design. It's long and shallow, similar to a truck box I built a long time ago albeit smaller. Concerns: The length to height/depth ratio. Would it matter? The distance between the sub and port inlet. It is currently ~4" from port to the closest edge of the sub tuned at 30hz. I can move it in more, each 2" decrease in length equates to about 1hz. Just concerned about unloading. Maybe it would be better to tune a bit higher to get more distance. I don't know that changing from 30hz to 32hz would be that noticeable and would gain me another 4" distance. Thanks for the help! Here is a pic of the box. Be easy, I've been using sketchup for 30 min
  9. I finally found mine. For some reason all my ssa email was going to my spam folder. Got it fixed so that shouldn't happen. Yeah the outrageous deals were pretty crazy but still some good black friday deals thru tomorrow
  10. Maybe one tromorrow? Im really wanting to hold out hope for a i/x/zcon 10 or 12.
  11. Yeah i got in and it says out of stock on hand, unavailable. It didnt say outrageous deal tho. Im really wanting ssa subs!
  12. Wonder why I havent seen anything? I registered earlier this year when I made an account thru the store. Is there a place to sign up?
  13. Uh the ssa store? Shirts and hats are already sold near cost per ssa
  14. I cant believe i missed this. I was looking around the store an hour before this went down. Hope there is another one tonite!
  15. 16 sqin or 40.6cm port area for 37hz. .6-1.00 cf or 17-28l for a single sa8
  16. I have a single sa8 right now. Im in the process of building a new box for 2. I can tell you right now that port isnt going to work. A single 2.5" does not have near the port area for the amount of air 2 sa8s can move. At a min you need 2 4" ports and that is still on the small side.
  17. Hertz or Rainbow, but that's like having a ferrari and stuck in a school zone without an amp. But I don't agree with just picking up cheap speakers. Cheap speakers sound cheap imo. I have a set of Polk DXi on headunit power in one of my cars and they sound decent. Way better than the Eclipse that was in there. Buddy has a set of Phoenix Gold (not sure of exact model) running off an Alpine and they sound good as well. Again, it's hard to suggest speakers because what I like you may not, or the next guy.
  18. It just ended up that way. Speaking of which, how important is that? The design I came up with so far has plenty of port area now, but the inch per sq ft is only around 15"
  19. That's what I thought. Seems crazy. I used 16.5mm xmax that I found in the sundown tech section. And no I wasn't expecting to smash the front window or do crazy hairtricks. But I've seen a lot of vids of a single 8 get down with crap flexing all over the place. My mirrors don't even vibrate.
  20. That's quick response! Yeah, I had thought 2 would be more of what I was looking for. I actually had a CRX a long time ago. This isn't for the supra tho. And everything is for sale at the right price! Thanks for the link. I punched it in and it says I need a 6.2" port. That seems a bit excessive? I suppose I could go with a single 6" aero, but that would still be just below the min. Would 2 3" ports be roughly the same or would I need to calculate in area? It just calls it "diameter". Stefan- it is punchy enough as is now. Just looking for more output. I'm not looking for being hit in the chest with a bat, but more of a doesn't sound like a wet towel thrown over it. I tossed it in a .5cuft sealed box and thought it was awful. Thanks!
  21. I've been searching on here and the internet about port area. I've seen anywhere from 12"/sqft to 25"/sqft. Some say a smaller PAF will act more like a sealed enclosure and tighter sounding with higher power handling. A larger PAF will act more free air with a higher output at lower frequency but will sound loose and lower power handling. I thought the box had more effect than port area does. Where I'm at now. I have a single v1 sa8 in .63 net tuned at 37hz with 17"/sqft. I'm running a sax1200 at 2ohm gained down to 600wrms (clamped). I like the sound but seems that the output is a little lower than I expected. I really have my eye on the new v2 sa8 and would like to build a box for 2 of them running 1ohm. I've been using Winisd and Torres calculator trying a few different designs. Depending on the size of the port and number has a big effect on port area (duh!) but just don't know what range I should be looking for. I'm looking for a little more output, but like a punchy sound for rock/metal. I also listen to some dub, so like it to go low as well. Don't listen to rap at all. Not looking to chase any TL numbers or a one note wonder. Any other info needed just ask! Thanks!
  22. If you are looking to run a sealed enclosure a sa8 may not be the best choice. I believe the E8 is more suitable for sealed.
  23. The volume will work well. I'm running .63 with mine. The port is puny tho. Whether or not you could hear the whistle doesn't make it a good design. The tuning is freq is ok. How much room can you use?
  24. Why not just make an external port for testing purposes? Once you figure out that is the problem and what tuning you like you can go from there. Dont forget to check phasing on the coils. You could be chasing all this for still a poor result if that is wrong
